Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 952: Chapter 545: Do You Know How Terrifying They Are?

Shi Wanyun slowly exhaled, beginning to explain the situation of this activity.

”The survivors you just dealt with were indeed attracted by me, but I’m not the one controlling them, nor do I have the authority to control them,” Shi Wanyun explained.

”I’ll get straight to the conclusion. The first batch of mutant creatures besieging the World Tree were actually transported from areas outside of District 188. They were used as a probing beast horde.”

”Controlling them are survivors from far-off regions, those participating in the ’World Tree Siege Battle,’” she continued.

So the World Tree Siege Battle by survivors from other regions has already been underway.

Was that beast horde just now really an attack initiated by survivors from outlying districts?

Shi Wanyun looked Xu Xin straight in the eyes, her gaze honest, devoid of the previous subtle tension and unease. Now, she appeared more relaxed than ever.

Simultaneously, her tone was unprecedentedly gentle and calm, accompanied by a soft smile.

It seemed to be the first time Xu Xin saw her like this.

The first time he conversed with Shi Wanyun was when she was stranded on the far side of the planet.

At that time, she was in danger, physically weak, and obviously couldn’t present herself as composed as she did now.

Later on, when he contacted her, and subsequently met her in the Underground Crystal City, she had already been controlled by the mutant creatures from the far side of the planet.

There was always a sense of incongruity when interacting with her back then, a feeling that kept Xu Xin wary of her.

But now, she seemed different.

Though sweat had soaked her clothes and her hair was slightly messy, there was an evident confidence and calm demeanor.

Of course, it wasn’t a condescending attitude; she simultaneously expressed friendliness and closeness to Xu Xin through her tone, gaze, and slight body language, making him feel very comfortable.

Unlike the first time he met her, this was a genuine, harmonious amicability.

It made him instinctively believe that what this person in front of him was saying was very convincing and likely genuine.

If he had seen this side of her in the Underground Crystal City, perhaps Xu Xin’s suspicions wouldn’t have lasted very long.

It seems that only now free from control, Shi Wanyun reveals her true self, the lone wolf who rose to the top of District 1 on her own.

Apparently, previous control had indeed limited her potential.

”They actually dare... to attack us here!” Zeng Tao exclaimed angrily, ”If it weren’t for District 188 helping them back then, they might not have survived until now!”

”So, how exactly did they manage to control those mutant creatures to teleport here and besiege us?” Xu Xin decided to trust this Shi Wanyun before him.

Not only because this Shi Wanyun gave off a comfortable vibe but also because of his confidence in the potion he had.

Those controlled for hundreds of years were freed thanks to this potion, so releasing Shi Wanyun from control was naturally unproblematic.

”Remember what I told you about the mystery voice and the activities announced to the outlying survivors?” Shi Wanyun replied, ”I have a slight amendment.”

”Indeed, you lied that time too.” Xu Xin realized.

”I won’t lie to you again in the future,” Shi Wanyun said softly, ”However, I didn’t lie that time either. What I said was all verbatim from the mystery voice. I just... omitted some key information. I couldn’t disclose it then; I’m sorry.”

Zeng Tao wasn’t part of that particular affair; she only heard bits from Lou Fei’Er, feeling a bit perplexed.

But she didn’t like overthinking either, so she shrugged it off and went over to Mimi, sitting down to pet the big cat.

Xu Xin was intrigued: ”What did you omit?”

Back then, Shi Wanyun told him that the mystery voice informed the survivors from other regions that once the World Tree was fully grown, all other region’s treehouses would wilt away, leaving only survivors from District 188.

This mystery voice used this reason to urge outlying survivors to attack the World Tree.

”Other than that, I actually know almost all the information regarding this activity,” Shi Wanyun pointed to Xu Xin’s watch, ”I mentioned back then, the mystery voice provided help to survivors from other districts through the points mall, and this assistance is key to their control over the beast horde.”

”It’s a special tool available for purchase from the points mall, known as the [Mutant Creature Black Box]. It can be exchanged for just 1 point and installed beside the treehouse’s screen.”

”This tool allows the treehouse’s screen to... connect with certain mutant creatures.”

Xu Xin’s eyelid twitched: ”Special mutant creatures? Connect?”

”Yes,” Shi Wanyun nodded gently, ”The so-called connection enables the treehouse’s screen to display everything seen through the eyes of the connected mutant creature.”

Being able to see everything through the eyes of another creature...

Xu Xin’s eyes flickered slightly.

That function sounded familiarly.

It was one of Chang Yin’s abilities back in the underground world!

Chang Yin could view everything seen through the eyes of certain special statues he handled.

And indeed, only with special arrangements in specific locations were they visible!

...Quite a coincidence.

Could it be that this activity carries some connection with Chang Yin?
