Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 964: Chapter 549: Reunion After More Than 50 Years

”Are you sure the people here are really okay? They won’t want to arrest you again, right?” Li Wenxi asked with some concern.

”Don’t worry, sis-in-law, everyone here is one of us. I’ve already confirmed it, there’s no problem.”

At this time, Li Wenxi and Xu Ying were inside a tall building.

Moreover, it was exactly one of the three towering skyscrapers that Li Wenxi had seen before in the city.

The two were currently inside an elevator, rapidly ascending to higher floors.

The entire building had two hundred floors, with a height estimated to be around eight or nine hundred meters. The elevator was on the outside of the building, and through its transparent walls, they could see the city rapidly descending beneath them.

”Well... I trust you then. You’re hundreds of years old; you shouldn’t mess this up...” Li Wenxi murmured while looking out the transparent glass, ”But why do we have to go up such a high building? Can’t we go somewhere else? It’s impossible to escape from here.”

”Hundreds of years old...” Xu Ying’s mouth twitched slightly in dissatisfaction, ”Can you not talk about me like that? Even though I am indeed a few hundred years old, my body is still very youthful!”

”Yes, yes... Which floor are we going to?” Li Wenxi looked at the elevator panel; in such a short time, it had already ascended nearly a hundred floors.

”You’re just like my brother!” Xu Ying quipped, then said, ”Of course, it’s the top floor. I’m bringing you here to directly take you to the most important place and talk with the most important person!”

”Who... who is that? And what is this place? Can you tell me?” Li Wenxi leaned in to ask softly.

She had been suddenly teleported to this building by Xu Ying, and before she knew what happened, she was already in the elevator.

She always felt like she was being watched and eavesdropped on inside the elevator, so she subconsciously lowered her voice.

”Hehe, you might be shocked when I tell you, but this is the landmark building of a family that controls military forces in the human base.” Xu Ying was also influenced by Li Wenxi, sneakily whispering.

”Mil... military?” Li Wenxi was shocked, ”Does that mean there are a lot of high-tech weapons?”

”Hmm... quite a few indeed.” Xu Ying tapped her lips, thinking as she spoke, ”After all, this is the family my big brother supported. To make them a force to resist alien invaders in the future, he put in a lot of effort.”

”Your brother...” Li Wenxi was initially a bit stunned, then realized she was talking about the now-disappeared Xu Xin, and looked a bit worried, ”Now that your brother is gone, they’re so powerful, can you ensure they...”

”Don’t worry, their interests align with mine.” Xu Ying said confidently, ”I even had dealings with the patriarch of this generation five or six decades ago. We were very familiar at the time, familiar enough to make my brother jealous, hehe, though now he’s almost eighty, it’s hard to believe his appearance...”

Li Wenxi blinked.

This was indeed quite extraordinary.

One wonders what that guy would think seeing the still youthful Xu Ying.

”Is there... a military base above?” Li Wenxi asked, seeing the elevator display having already reached over the 150th floor.

”How could it be? Who would build a military base at the top of such a high building?” Xu Ying shook her head.

”Then this place...”

”Oh, you’ll know when we get there, no need to worry too much, sis-in-law. This is just a... well, landmark building?”

Saying that, she pointed to the other two towers outside.

”Just like those two, symbolizing the tri-force of the families. But actually, these three skyscrapers only serve that symbolic purpose, essentially having no other function. They’re even opened as tourist attractions in high season.”

”They do that?”

”But it’s not the high season now, so they’re not open, and it’s highly secure here. Although it’s a symbol, one still needs to keep it secure, right?” Xu Ying tapped on the elevator’s transparent glass, ”Don’t be fooled by us looking outside; they can’t see us from outside, this is one-way glass.”

”So who are we going to meet up there...”

”Ding!”

A crisp sound rang out, and the elevator doors opened.

”You’ll see when we get there.” Xu Ying pulled Li Wenxi out of the elevator.

As soon as they exited the elevator, they faced a door, and Xu Ying directly reached out to push it open, pulling Li Wenxi inside.

As the top floor of an eight or nine hundred meter tall building, the area was not large.

Although the first level had a considerable area, the top was tapered, and from about seven hundred meters up, the area began to reduce layer by layer, until at the topmost level, it was less than a hundred square meters.

The style here was very stern, with a massive solid wood long table surrounded by solid wood chairs, a huge white screen hanging on the wall, and several projectors mounted on the ceiling.

A typical serious conference room setting.

At that moment, two people were sitting at the main and vice seats of the conference table.

One was an old man, with gray hair and deep frown lines on his forehead, his eyebrows also already white and straight yet thick, exuding a strong sense of authority, the kind that comes from holding power for a long time.
