Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 982: Chapter 555: The Domesticated Humans

On the other side, Shi Wanyun’s story continued.

”That night, I was sleeping in room 228.” Shi Wanyun took a sip of water and continued, ”I asked 228 a lot about the previous batches of survivors.”

”Oh?” Xu Xin’s eyes lit up, ”What’s their situation now?”

”Before us, there were four batches of survivors, each batch having survivors. And those survivors, now, all live on the other hemisphere of this planet, mostly concentrated in one area.” Shi Wanyun took another sip of water.

”...In one area?” Xu Xin repeated her words, ”Are there many survivors?”

”Yes, quite a number,” Shi Wanyun nodded, ”Every batch of survivors has quite a few who make it, far more than I imagined.”

Currently, the strong ones from various regions, including Xu Xin and Ji Chaoyang, generally believed that the previous batches of survivors engaged in regional conflicts, and in the end, very few people would be left.

Yet, Shi Wanyun now says the number of survivors is beyond her expectations?

”...Could it be that they didn’t engage in regional conflict?”

”No, they did engage in regional conflict, each batch of survivors did, and only those who made it through were considered survivors. It’s just that their so-called regional conflict didn’t seem as brutal, as kill-or-be-killed as we imagined.”

Shi Wanyun spun the empty cup in her hands, speaking softly, ”According to 228, she was from the third batch, and their batch didn’t actually lose many people to regional conflicts, from start to finish, their numbers only dropped by 30%.”

”30%...” Xu Xin murmured, ”Most survived the regional conflict?”

”That’s right, and even of that 30%, some died due to natural disasters. Actually, fewer people died from fights between survivors.”

”Why?”

”Because, the third batch of survivors didn’t have beings like you, like explorers among them.”

Xu Xin was slightly startled, then pondered, ”...You mean, they were too weak, so they didn’t have any advantageous means to fight each other?”

”That’s one reason,” Shi Wanyun nodded, ”Most importantly, the survivors from different regions were extremely far apart.”

”So when regional conflicts came, most couldn’t do anything other than argue with people from other regions on the world channel.”

”Hold on,” Xu Xin frowned slightly, ”The previous batches weren’t mixed together like us?”

Their batch of survivors had intermingled neighboring regions. Districts 187 and 188 were interspersed, as were 188 and 189.

That’s why they felt that any upcoming regional conflict would result in huge losses for the survivors.

”That’s what I’m trying to say.”

Shi Wanyun put down the cup she was holding and looked at Xu Xin, ”It seems our batch is the only one like this; the first four batches were all divided regionally, with survivors from a piece of land all belonging to one region.”

Is that really so...

”And one more crucial point, according to 228, at least the third batch of survivors, in the early stages of survival, never experienced frequent activities, beast hordes, or natural disasters like we did.”

”Because of this, although many in their batch also died, the number of final survivors was even...”

Shi Wanyun looked out the window at the pillars of purple-black light still shooting into the sky, each essentially representing a region.

”Even... more survived than our current remaining survivors. The previous batches lived much more comfortably than us.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Xin clicked his tongue lightly.

This was not a comforting thought.

Were they the only ones being treated specially?

Why?

He looked out at the Crystal City, bright and translucent in the night.

Was it because of their group, the explorers?

From what he remembered, Xu Xin’s team at most had tens of thousands of people.

So even if they sent everyone from the past to the future, there would only be tens of thousands.

And their batch of survivors began with two million regions, each having ten thousand people, totaling two million.

If the other survivors arrived in this era not because of what Xu Xin and his group did, that would make sense.

And those tens of thousands sent to this era by Xu Xin’s group might all be among their fifth batch of survivors.

Is that why the extraterrestrial invaders treat them specially?

Or is it simply because the performances of the first four batches of survivors fell short of their sadistic desires, making this fifth batch’s experiences more brutal?

”Please continue,” Xu Xin said to Shi Wanyun, who had paused in her story due to his pondering.

Shi Wanyun nodded and continued, ”228 told me pretty much everything she knew. She was a third batch survivor, so she knew the most about them, but according to her, the second and fourth batches had experiences similar to hers.”
