Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 986: Chapter 556: Unnameable Fear_2

Her importance goes without saying.

She might become a key figure in this world tree, even more important than the managers.

And that’s exactly why she is so patient.

”So that means...” Shi Wanyun looked at the woman’s face, ”Actually, most of the time, you managers... are the real ’masters’ of the lower areas.”

”Of course not.” The woman laughed, ”We are just managers and must abide by the rules set by the master. We cannot act recklessly in the lower areas. Once we violate the master’s rules, a group... who call themselves order maintainers will appear.”

”Order maintainers?”

This name, Shi Wanyun heard for the first time.

No. 228 did not mention any order maintainers to her last night.

”Are the order maintainers human?”

”Yes, but not ordinary humans.”

The woman nodded and continued, ”Perhaps you won’t believe what I’m about to say, but let me tell you, in this world, there exists another group of humans who arrived here even earlier than our first batch of survivors.”

”... What...” Shi Wanyun’s eyes trembled, softly murmuring, ”There are... earlier humans in this world?”

”Yes, they are different from us, have completely adapted to life here, and... can even be said to be advanced beings beyond humans.”

The woman’s words left Shi Wanyun speechless.

The woman continued, ”The difference between these humans and us is that their bodies are covered with densely packed blood veins, very similar to the mutated creatures outside.”

... Blood-veined mutated humans?

Shi Wanyun’s eyelids lifted slightly.

She was all too familiar with this.

She had seen blood-veined mutated humans around her biological environment.

And those furry freaks, she had seen many times.

”They, like us who have undergone genetic modification, possess long lifespans, but their physical abilities are far superior, and have even... replaced some of their body parts with mechanical weapons.”

”Each of them is a walking weapon of mass destruction, possessing immense energy and extraordinary combat abilities.”

The woman sighed, ”They seem... not to live in the same world as us.”

Shi Wanyun opened her mouth, just about to say something, when the elevator beneath them gradually came to a stop.

The elevator doors creaked open slowly with a ”gachunk”.

”Alright, come out, we’ve arrived. Don’t be nervous.” The woman stepped out of the elevator before Shi Wanyun, ”Follow me.”

Shi Wanyun took a deep breath and stepped out.

They first walked through a passage, then suddenly emerged into a bright, spacious area.

An entire expanse of bright and wide space, like... the hall of a great palace.

Looking up, there was no ceiling; what shaded the sunlight was the lush green tree canopy.

Yet the sunlight wasn’t entirely blocked and still filtered through the gaps between the leaves, making the canopy exceptionally verdant and the hall bright.

”... Hmm? The master isn’t here.” The woman looked ahead.

Shi Wanyun followed her gaze.

At the very front of the hall, there were wide steps, leading upward step by step, and at the top, there was a magnificent chair.

The entire chair was carved from blue-black stone; Shi Wanyun glanced at it and quickly looked away.

She didn’t see the full appearance of this magnificent blue-black stone chair, only the two...

Eyes on the chair’s armrests.

Two large eyes, bigger than her fists.

They were even... moving!

The moment she looked over, the eyes happened to turn towards her, locking eyes with her.

In that instant, she felt incredibly uncomfortable, as if something inside her body was about to burst out from her pores, from her scalp!

So she immediately averted her gaze and started taking deep breaths.

They were just two eyes, at most, a bit bizarre, she thought she shouldn’t be scared after going through so many life-and-death situations.

But that moment of fear almost made her lose her sanity, nearly causing her knees to buckle to the ground.

It felt as if a terrifying monster was about to crawl out of her body.

That feeling was truly a profound, innate fear!

In simpler terms...

Her sanity value plummeted!

It felt as though her mind was on the verge of fracturing!

It’s just a chair after all...

Beside her, the woman didn’t stare at the chair; she must have been aware of this situation long ago.

She turned to look at Shi Wanyun, seeing the beads of sweat on her forehead, and her slightly dazed gaze at the ground, she smiled, ”How is it, did you feel it too?”

”Mm...” Shi Wanyun gently nodded.

”I intended to warn you, but I thought it might be better to let you experience it yourself. Also, don’t make eye contact with the master later, as the master’s gaze is even more terrifying than that chair.”

Even more terrifying...

”But the master is...” The woman’s words suddenly stopped.

Shi Wanyun turned to look at her, cautiously asking in a low voice, ”What’s wrong?”
