Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 977: Chapter 553: Is Blue-Grade Fruit a Slow-Acting Poison? (Part 2)

”Oh oh...” Li Wenxi nodded but felt something was off, sneaking a glance at Xu Ying.

”Then I’ll head back first.” Wei Shishi turned and wanted to leave.

”Stop right there!” Xu Ying reached out and grabbed Wei Shishi’s arm, somewhat angrily saying, ”What’s up with you? Why do you have such a big grudge against me? Explain it clearly!”

”...Don’t you know what you did over fifty years ago?” Wei Shishi forcefully shook off Xu Ying’s hand and then turned to leave.

”What did I do? I did...” Xu Ying was stunned, ”What did I do? Wait, you...”

By the time she reacted, Wei Shishi had already disappeared without a trace.

”What the heck...?”

”...Did you mess with her grandpa?” Li Wenxi sneered, nudging Xu Ying’s side with his elbow, ”I feel like she heard something from her grandpa and that’s why she has issues with you. Did you ever do something like start a relationship and then abandon it?”

”No way!” Xu Ying cried out in injustice, ”I, I, I, me and Wei Bai were just normal friends!”

”Then why is she so upset with you? She must have heard everything about you from her grandpa, right?” Li Wenxi looked in the direction where Wei Shishi had left.

”What is this all about? Not to mention it’s impossible, even if it was true, her grandpa’s emotions and experiences don’t need her to seek justice, do they?”

Xu Ying couldn’t sit still: ”No way, I have to ask that old guy! What on earth did he say to his granddaughter about me? He wouldn’t have just made up some nonsense, would he?”

”Hey hey!” Li Wenxi quickly pulled her back, ”The old man is still busy, isn’t he? He seemed serious when he left; it’s better not to disturb him for now. Could it be those giant beasts are attacking again?”

”...Hmph, probably not. If that’s the case, would he keep it from us?” Xu Ying didn’t rush at all, pouting, ”Feels like the three families are gathered to discuss something big, probably related to me, so that’s why they didn’t tell me, right?”

”Got it...” Li Wenxi rubbed his eyes slightly, ”Then let’s head back, I’m feeling a bit sleepy. It’s quite late now... Wow! It’s almost midnight already!”

She looked at her watch and exclaimed, ”So late! It’s nearly the next day!”

”Sigh, this place has this downside.” Xu Ying looked up at the sky, at two to three thousand meters high, those Crystal Stones were still emitting light, ”Day and night are the same here, there’s no four seasons, living here always feels like time is standing still.”

”Ah... So what’s the daily routine like for people here?” Li Wenxi looked towards the direction of the living area.

Over there, the streets, which originally had a lot of pedestrians and vehicles, were now much fewer.

Even though the sky hadn’t darkened, it seemed everyone was already resting.

”Because everyone’s daily schedule is still about the same as on the ground, after all, the time for work and study is still the same.”

Xu Ying explained, ”Nine to five, eight to five, work and school times are fixed, so everyone’s routine is still similar to human beings on the ground. Of course, there are always people staying up late. However, in this place, it wouldn’t be considered ’staying up late,’ would it? Since there’s basically no night.”

”I see, this really is a magical world...” Li Wenxi felt she still didn’t understand this place well enough, having an impulse to go explore everywhere.

She took out a blue-grade orange from her backpack and started peeling it: ”That’s perfect, since there are fewer people out now, we won’t attract too much attention. Let’s wander around!”

”Ah, isn’t that the overnight miracle orange (blue)!” Xu Ying’s eyes lit up, ”You even brought this good stuff down here.”

”You must have used this before, right?” Li Wenxi took out another one and handed it to Xu Ying.

”So nostalgic!” Xu Ying held the orange in her hand, turning it over and over, sighing, ”In our team’s tech park, we grew a lot of these orange trees. At that time, we wished we could split every minute into two using them, these things are simply miraculous, but...”

”But what?” Li Wenxi stuffed a piece of orange into her mouth, asking somewhat unclearly.

”But... it’s better you eat less of this now. Although it can keep a person’s mind awake and without the need for sleep, it comes at the cost of overdrawing brain cells’ lifespan.” Xu Ying also started peeling the orange in her hand, continuing, ”Eat too much, and you’ll get premature dementia!”

”Hey?” Li Wenxi had just swallowed the segment, hearing this, she suddenly paused with a piece of orange ready to enter her mouth.

She looked down at the piece of orange in her hand, then up at Xu Ying, her eyes blinking, stuck in a dilemma of whether to eat or not, she exclaimed, ”It has... it has such side effects!”

”Yeah, otherwise if you just keep eating these oranges, would you never have to sleep? There’s no such good deal, there’s a price to everything.” Xu Ying threw away the orange peels and said.

”But...” Li Wenxi swallowed, ”I think I’ve already eaten quite a few... I won’t...”

”It’s not going to be a problem that quickly.” Xu Ying explained, ”For normal people who eat too much, they might get dementia by forty or fifty? For us with long lifespans, it doesn’t matter, but you’re still with ordinary genes for now, right? It’s best to rely on your own body to recover the energy.”
