Chapter 539: Chapter 539: Dark Wings, Remove the Mask

Suddenly, the old eunuch’s eyes widened again, seeming to want to say more, but Ji Tan, standing beside him, shook his head at the old eunuch and said, ”The Commander on the battlefield, indeed should not kneel... Read the decree.”

After speaking, he narrowed his eyes, sizing up Sikong Jing beneath the mask from head to toe.

He knew very well that a mysterious Dark Wing Commander had been cultivated beside the Beigong Xianfeng, who no one knew, except that he was young and extremely talented, and what was more...

Intelligence from the Long Night Black Burning Army indicated that it was he who allowed the Beigong Xianfeng, who was supposed to have been slain by Mo Ci, to live for half a day longer.

For the Dark Wing Commander, Ji Tan held both hatred and fear in his heart.

He still didn’t know what the Beigong Xianfeng might have said in the half-day he lived after his resurrection.

Nor did he know if Mo Ci had said anything before Beigong Xianfeng’s death or if he sold him out.

But now Ji Tan didn’t want to squabble; he only wished to take control of the Long Night Black Burning Army as soon as possible.

To this end, the old eunuch could only announce the decree.

It was to declare the Long Night Emperor’s Decree, appointing Prince Zhen Nan and Commander of the Long Night White Flame Army, Cheng Yusu, as the Commander of the Youyuan Twelve States battlefront, and furthermore, Ji Tan would personally collect Beigong Xianfeng’s body and return to the Long Night Imperial City for a grand burial.

Once the intent of the decree was delivered, the old eunuch handed the imperial edict to Sikong Jing.

Simultaneously, Ji Tan, along with a middle-aged man clad in white battle armor, alighted side by side from the Divine Spaceship, surrounded by many masters and guards, all in white battle armor!

And this middle-aged man was... the new Commander, Cheng Yusu.

A general who was also immensely renowned in the Long Night Empire, also titled as the Alien Surname King.

He had been defending the southern borders, commanding the Long Night White Flame Army, and now he stood by the side of Eldest Prince Ji Tan, ready to pursue a great and glorious achievement.

Should Ji Tan become the Long Night Emperor, he would become the General of the Long Night Army.

Right after alighting, Cheng Yusu also began to scrutinize Sikong Jing, and after a few breaths, he revealed a proud, elder’s smile and held out his hand saying, ”Dark Wings, hand over the Commander Seal to me.”

He was looking down from his high position, completely disregarding Sikong Jing, reaching out almost carelessly.

Sikong Jing simply shrugged indifferently, casually producing the Commander Seal that originally belonged to Beigong Xianfeng.

However, just as he was about to hand it over, Cheng Yusu suddenly stopped him, then said indifferently, ”Wait a moment, the handover ceremony of the Commander Seal is sacred, and you must first take off the mask.”

Upon these words, everyone’s gaze turned towards Sikong Jing.

Cao Yi and the others clenched their fists, as Cheng Yusu had begun by attempting to put them in their place. How would Sikong Jing respond?

At that moment, Cheng Yusu’s lips curled slightly, as if he was looking down on all living beings.

Ji Tan appeared ready to enjoy the spectacle, as they both were equally eager to see Sikong Jing’s reaction.

However, Sikong Jing started to laugh, without reaching for his mask.

He squinted his eyes and slowly spoke, ”Commander Cheng is correct, the handover ceremony is sacred, so it must also be carried out in front of all the soldiers of the Long Night Empire Army.”

The crowd paused, then both Ji Tan and Cheng Yusu looked towards the Youxue Plain.

Only then did they realize that on the vast expanse of the Youxue Plain, they could not see any troops of the Long Night Empire.

Suddenly, Ji Tan asked in confusion, ”Has our army frontline been pushed so far forward?”

Not seeing the troops meant that they had moved to the frontline beyond their sight, again there was no place on this plain that could hide tens of millions of soldiers.

”Yes, the Long Night Empire Army is now very, very close to the Netherworld State City temporarily controlled by the War Soul Dynasty,” Sikong Jing nodded, then looking at Cheng Yusu he added, ”Commander Cheng, shall we proceed with the handover of the Commander Seal after we get to the battlefield?”

Ji Tan and Cheng Yusu couldn’t help but exchange glances.

They felt that the Dark Wing Commander in front of them seemed to have something up his sleeve, but they couldn’t figure out what he was up to, though the handover of the Commander Seal indeed required witnessing by the army to be more persuasive.

After Ji Tan nodded, Cheng Yusu said, ”Fine, we will head to the battlefield now...”

Having said that, Cheng Yusu and Ji Tan, among others, returned to the Divine Spaceship.

As soon as they stood firm, they sharply turned their gaze to Sikong Jing and Cao Yi and their company, with Ji Tan saying, ”Everyone, please board the Divine Spaceship as well.”

His tone was casual, yet his eyes were incredibly piercing.

Ji Tan feared that Cao Yi and the others might have some tricks up their sleeves, so he had to keep them under control to avoid any unforeseen incidents.

Instinctively, the Vice Commanders like Cao Yi looked to Sikong Jing, and after he gave a slight nod, everyone boarded the Court Divine Airship where Ji Tan was and then set off towards Netherworld State City.

The moment they arrived and couldn’t help but widen their eyes, the eunuch delivering the decree exclaimed in shock, ”The army is at the city gates!”

Ji Tan was also stunned and incredulously said, ”You’ve actually encircled Netherworld State City?”

At the same time, Cheng Yusu’s face was also full of astonishment.

Upon hearing this, Sikong Jing smiled slightly and said, ”Yes, I just mentioned that the Long Night Empire Army was very, very close to Netherworld State City. Does Your Highness find this proximity unexpectedly close?”

Of course, it was unexpected...

Without the Beigong Xianfeng, the Long Night Black Burning Army had been thought to be fortunate to hold out until now; the idea of laying siege to Netherworld State City had not even occurred to them.

They could never have imagined being this close to victory.

On the way here, Ji Tan had not received any intelligence from the Long Night Black Burning Army, neither from his spies planted within their ranks nor from the army itself—no information had leaked out.

Ji Tan and Cheng Yusu had thought that Youye State City had been surrounded by Lu Lungan.

But that was not the case at all.

On their way here, everyone in the Long Night Imperial City had been worried that the Youyuan Twelve States might completely collapse due to the death of the Beigong Xianfeng. But now, there was no sign of collapse; at a glance, the Long Night Black Burning Army’s battle intent seemed to be touching the sky.

Cheng Yusu remained shock for a long time, then suddenly looked at Sikong Jing with intent and asked, ”Did you do this?”

”Yes,” Sikong Jing casually replied with a single word.

At that moment, Cheng Yusu and Ji Tan couldn’t help but exchange glances again.

The look in their eyes slowly changed from initial shock to intense passion, a strong excitement erupting within their hearts...

Indeed, they would claim the Dark Wing Commander’s achievements for their own.

However, they naturally would not say this out loud for the time being. Unable to hide his eagerness, Cheng Yusu said, ”Dark Wings, you’ve done very well. Issue the order for the changeover ceremony right away, immediately.”

He could hardly wait to take control of the Commander Seal, could hardly wait for the Long Night Black Burning Army to recognize him as their new Commander.

”Alright, I will issue the order at once.”

Sikong Jing replied indifferently, then turned his gaze towards the Long Night Army encircling Netherworld State City.

”Listen up, everyone, I am the Dark Wing Commander...”

”Now, His Majesty has dispatched a new Commander to take control of the Commander Seal, and my duty as the temporary Commander will come to an end.”

As these words were spoken, the Long Night Warriors excitedly surrounding the city trembled all over and instinctively turned their gaze towards the Court Divine Skyship.

Their eyes were filled with confusion and the entire troop was instantly in disarray, with whispers spreading among them.

Meanwhile, inside the city towers of Netherworld State City, Lu Lungan, who had already noticed the arrival of the Long Night Palace Divine Skyship, was stunned.

They looked at each other in bewilderment.

A stunned War Soul Vice Marshal said, ”The Long Night Empire is actually changing Commanders?”

Another staff officer, barely concealing his excitement, called out in a strange voice, ”We should hurry out and see what’s happening...”
