Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1548: Chapter 126: Schemes and Counter-Schemes

”Ellie.” Countess Stelter gently shook her head... Forget it, it’s normal for a young girl to fall into her first single-minded love.

As long as Ellie still has her senses and won’t let her reputation and family’s interests be trampled... you can lose your heart, but keep your mind.

”Lind, respect a girl’s privacy.” Helena turned and instructed her youngest son, ”Don’t you dislike it when others try to probe your thoughts?”

”Heh~” Ellie chuckled softly, ”Exposing yourself and still don’t want others to continue playing the good guy, huh?”

”Ellie!” Helena’s tone was much heavier this time.

Ellie pursed her lips, gave her brother a light glance, and then turned to look at the battlefield.

Lind felt something was off.

His sister was indeed very proud at heart, and often looked down on those inferior to her... but she usually appeared very approachable.

Especially in front of their parents, she would never speak harshly to Lind, her younger brother, only ever responding to provocation.

Now this Ellie, who refuses to back down and even actively starts disputes, feels so unfamiliar to him.

Especially her gaze... why does it seem like she’s looking at another species?

But it’s not evil.

If it were malicious, Lind would have sensed it long ago, not today, he realized Ellie is more concerned about the Great Sage on the Magic Tower than Ditte.

They all know, as long as the Undead Tribe can hold on, Ditte will generally be fine.

But that’s family!

Even if Ellie were standing there, Lind feels he wouldn’t focus on someone who poses no threat and wouldn’t even look at him.

Not to mention how Ditte, their brother, has always doted on both of them.

Ellie... why does she suddenly feel like a different person?

Although Lind dislikes his sister, he understands... the dislike is only for her personality, not her character.

But the current Ellie... how should I put it... Yet, various small gestures, along with that prideful look that annoys people, it’s still Ellie!

Lind can’t quite understand that feeling, but he’s already noted it down and is determined to observe this seemingly troubled sister.

Then he glanced at Helena, pursed his lips.

The consequence of his own actions is that he really can’t tell his mom about Ellie’s odd behavior... if Helena herself becomes suspicious, she might probe her daughter, but if Lind speaks up, his mom might suspect Lind poisoned Ellie or set a trap for her to fall into.

Lind silently sighed... even mom won’t believe him, who else would think he’s genuinely sensitive, and not trying to frame Ellie?

If I knew this day would come, why did I cause so much trouble?

In Basia City, he can’t seek help from those capable people... not to mention whether they’ve long known about the things he’s done, even if they believe Lind, they won’t act as if they believe, might even notify the Earl that their youngest son is stirring up trouble again!

Everyone’s the same, they all want to see their family in chaos.

And that Great Sage Belfran obviously doesn’t want to deal with their Stelter Family... Ellie, the idiot, really has skills, chased a man into hiding!

Ditte can only reach the cliff when he ascends the peak, to find the Great Sage he has to rely on the Undead Tribe to pass the message!

And that fool Ellie, even her friends among the Undead Tribe dared not pass messages for her.

As for Lind... that Great Sage Belfran hasn’t regarded him any differently from the start, how could he possibly see him now!

Lind gently bit at the meat inside his cheek, his gaze fixed on the few members from the Undead Tribe who have a good relationship with his brother... could these outsiders possibly discern if there’s anything wrong with Ellie’s soul?

But how can he avoid Ditte to connect with them?

Especially considering Ellie has many Undead Tribe friends... though Lind always felt these Undead Tribe folks considered Ellie a fool, in noble circles, it’s still considered friendship!

Lind moved uneasily in the sofa.

Compared to Ditte and Ellie, he’s the one with the coldest relationship with the Undead Tribe.

How can I get the Undead Tribe to improve their relations with him?

Preferably good enough not to betray him to their kin, much less informing Ditte.

Lind’s gaze slowly concentrated on the big man riding the giant bull... called ’Battlefield Thunder,’ right?

’Snow Cloud Peak’ gritted his teeth, calculating the losses in Proud Sky Alliance’s treasury.

News continuously coming from the tablet made his head hurt a bit.

Although the war indeed turned into the stalemate he anticipated, the giant warships shuttling automatically between Eye of the Sea God Island and the shore have more transport capacity than expected.

Damn it, the ships captured by Danboro earlier turned out to be outdated models discarded by the Scaret People.

Although he made a similar judgment after witnessing Eosca and Triton split so thoroughly, he still underestimated Scaret’s shipbuilding technology.

Damn, these are almost like their world’s troop transport ships!

After its resurrection, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ crouched on the command platform, recalculating the opponent’s force replenishment speed based on his observations. His white robe pitifully traced a messy line on the ground, and even his long, waist-length hair, usually well-kept and flowing, was now a tangled mess.

”Susu...” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ groaned, ”How many life-saving flowers from Hill do we have left?”

”Let me check.” ’Susu’ looked down at her tablet, ”Most families have used up one-fifth. Our family... well, you know, a little less.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ nodded in understanding.

Members of the Magic Cult, because of their cult leader, are perpetually targeted by assassins and mobs. On any battlefield, they’re the focus of concentrated attacks. So, either they’ve trained themselves in this harsh environment to master speedy escapes—unmatched in their ability to slip away—or they’ve developed thick skins... giving up the fight at the start.

So, in their Proud Sky Alliance, the ones most frequently attacked are the Black Rose, Black and White Path, and Battle Field.

What can I say... if they’re finding fault, of course they’d hope the opponent reacts normally, with passionate insults and bloody skirmishes—that’s how proper people behave.

Battle Field, being poor at talking and only good at fighting, although a devoted follower of Snow Old Dog, actually has less presence than Black Rose and Black and White Path.

But because Ink Brush tends to court death and inexplicably raised an Edna, Black Rose has become unrivalled in their alliance lately.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ pondered as he spoke: ”Any news from Baldy?”

”None.” ’Susu’ shook her head, ”He’s already bottling up his anger. The Moon Clan doesn’t even understand his insults, so Baldy is somewhat going mad, having died thrice already.”

”Really...” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ shook his head, ”The Elder group didn’t come, and in the end, a nobody got in.

So many families in the alliance didn’t have issues, even those with Road Eunuch were fine, but their family lost face, no wonder Baldy is losing it.”

”Black Rose was too prominent in Toril,” ’Susu’ wasn’t surprised, ”and in the previous worlds, they got a lot of benefits, making many PVE families who focus on earning envious of them.

Getting targeted isn’t really unexpected.

The main thing is it doesn’t make sense for them to join our family, and Black and White Path collapsed again...”

”We have to economize, try to hold out for a whole day.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ looked up at the slightly brightening sky, ”By this time tomorrow, our people can enter!”

”When should we send Thunder with Ditte to clear the outskirts of the leveling area?” ’Susu’ looked at the tablet, ”Up to now, over 5000 Moon Clan members have left the battle and entered the mountain, maybe more.

At this rate, by tomorrow...”

”No rush, once daylight comes, they won’t sneak further into the mountains. What if we spot them?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ shook his head, ”Tonight will be the peak time.

Has Hummingbird found where they’re hiding yet?”

”Not yet.” Susu asked, puzzled, ”Are you so sure they have a specific place to go?”

”Hey~” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ cracked his fingers, ”If these people are of the same ilk as those from Eden, they’ll undoubtedly act the same.

Mobilizing so many people to skip on exploits and ambush low-rank newcomers must have worthwhile rewards.

Didn’t I estimate last time that Ellie might know about some Energy Mines?

Wendy surely knows and likely informed the Moon Clan that moved to the desert with them.

Haha~

Is it possible they would leave something for Triton?

If they don’t cause some trouble for Sea God, how could they be satisfied?

The Moon Clan on Eye of the Sea God Island must be playing both sides.

Don’t give me that look... what can’t be done in a game can’t be done in reality?

We can all make phone calls!

Moreover, isn’t this normal operation, securing interests from both sides is what a player’s professionalism should be!

On our side, isn’t it rare for someone to pull off a dual play?

If it wasn’t for William’s... cunning planning... holding tight controls, there wouldn’t be so few making money on both sides.

Even now, our Undead Tribe has long been accustomed to sticking with William, reluctant to give up various exploits... in this game, switching factions really feels like starting over.

But if they dare open dual factions, someone is bound to switch.”

’Susu’ gently nodded her head.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t understand this approach, but being restricted by William for so long, she almost forgot that in this game world, a faction is merely a piece of paper that can be torn apart.

Whenever unhappy, one can switch sides.
