Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1541: Chapter 119: The Hard-to-Please NPC

Tanya didn’t know why, despite all her carefully laid plans and efforts to get closer to Dieter, she ended up failing.

But there’s nothing to be done about it, NPCs in the game are inherently unpredictable, their personalities difficult to gauge and quite unique.

Sometimes a single misstep means losing any chance, and there’s no way to amend it.

And it’s all limited-time quests... even meeting people outside the time limit would be useless despite the effort.

Just like Hill in the Magic Tower, he only befriends those who entered the game earliest... no matter how sincere they act, that Mage who’s usually friendly to the Undead Tribe ignores them completely.

Even back in Central City, he used to watch them newcomers with great interest!

Who knows if there’s some sort of version restriction, so Hill won’t even give them a chance to start a Friendliness quest.

If it weren’t for the Pioneer always releasing tasks first to the family with the highest Friendliness, they wouldn’t have ended up empty-handed in Toril!

Tanya completely overlooked how the Last-era Clan, with negative Friendliness with Hill, carved out its own realm in Toril and kept blaming the game for being unfair to latecomers like them.

However, she didn’t plan to turn away.

After all, she still could earn some money in this game... in reality.

Which wasn’t welfare provided by those sparsely populated games where storylines always had loopholes.

But, her recent forum posts got less and less popular... the click rate dropped significantly.

She had to find a new path... leading the Eden family to carve out a bright future from the exclusion of others would surely draw unparalleled attention!

However, she failed at the first step.

’Battlefield Lightening’ was even more brainless than she imagined, and too impolite to women... sure he had some value, but if she got too friendly with a guy like that, it could stir up undesirable public opinion.

Unless she could ensure ’Battlefield Lightening’ would be her puppet... yet, Tanya hesitated a bit.

After observing for so long, even Tanya wasn’t sure she could deceive his general right under ’Snow Cloud Peak’s’ nose.

If she couldn’t make ’Battlefield Lightening’ loyal to her, any good relationship would be in vain!

Damn... how is this guy even still alive?

The more Tanya thought about it, the more annoyed she became, turning her eyes toward those high-rise buildings being rebuilt in Basia City.

Since there was no opportunity with Dieter, she’d better go find Ellie!

Hum~

Since the Stelter family’s eldest son looks down on her, why not see what that rarely appearing young master is like?

Should be similar to Ellie... proud, aloof, but probably easy to sway?

If she could decide the rise and fall of an Earl’s family... using her charm and words like potions, creating storms for the heir of a City Lord’s family, she’s bound to reap abundant rewards.

Then she could also leverage the Stelter Family against those guys at ’Snow Cloud Peak’, particularly that damned ’Battlefield Lightening’!

Get them all out of Basia City!

And seize control of this main battlefield for themselves!

Tanya flashed a sinister smile... once her family’s fame skyrockets, Triton would surely notice this family with whom he shares a common origin, right?

By then, they would certainly gain the greatest benefits in Aesces.

Heh~

The name of the Goddess of Agriculture, which she had chosen especially to attract Hill’s attention, never thought it’d be useful in this world!

Fortunately, she didn’t change it back then because of Hill’s disdain... What Child of Nature! Not even a bit interested in otherworldly Goddesses of Agriculture!

Tanya chuckled softly, stepping towards Basia City... completely ignoring the chasing glances of certain men behind her, moving gracefully, with brisk steps.

”She sways quite charmingly, like those old-time models.” One of the people watching the live broadcast in the hall couldn’t help but comment.

”Doesn’t she know what those gazes behind her really mean?” Qiuqiu retorted sharply, ”Aren’t they all looking at a fool?”

Hmm?

Isn’t that so?”

”Ah... it is.” The swordsman who had made the comment earlier shrank back into the crowd.

”Road Eunuch.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ pondered, ”Go check if the animal companions on Tanya’s side... are systems contracts, not like Hill’s.”

”Hmm?” Lu Huayu turned to him, ”Is there any difference? Our family and Wenjian also have system contracts!”

”The ones on young master’s side are one thing, your family’s mostly terminated their contracts when leaving Teraxil, didn’t they?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ raised his chin slightly, ”Only the animal companions from Hill’s side mostly didn’t.

I have a feeling those cows just aren’t that smart, but they’re certainly smarter than Ambori’s Shark-head!

Judging by their audacity to openly treat giant calf calves like commodities... how could those cows have possibly followed them to the Otherworld?”

”You mean...” Lu Huayu turned in surprise, ”Right, their animal companions seem acquired after Merkel’s kingdom was destroyed.

You suspect, they...”

”The predatory Magical Beast families in the Beast Kingdom with issues mostly got eliminated by that crazed Merkel.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ said lightly, ”But the herbivores have lived quite well.

Those of us who arrived early in Teraxil know that most of the first batch of contracted Magical Beasts terminated their contracts to follow Merkel, mainly tigers and leopards.

Herbivores... mostly didn’t go.

But the Beast Kingdom, I’ve done some calculations, there were no small numbers of creatures like cows, sheep, horses, and deer!”

”Their giant cow’s intelligence probably doesn’t reach the level of sensing ancestral bloodline?” ’Perfect Bald’ asked.

”But I remember back when Merkel was in seclusion, those foxes tempting the tigers and leopards to attack Alice... though legends say they were killed.

However, Merkel and Agleya seemed highly interested in our fox partners.

Especially the ones that were contracted afterwards.

I think they suspect that fox might be playing dead.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ mused, ”Even my Fox, whenever it appears, they observe it closely.”

”Does Hill know about it?” ’Perfect Bald’ suddenly asked.

”He certainly does.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ laughed, ”Haven’t you noticed I rarely let Fox out on Hill’s turf?

Whenever in Hill’s array areas, foxes get especially watched.

Fox gets anxious, his fur stands on end the moment he’s out!

I wouldn’t bear him suffering, let him enjoy himself inside the space.”

”Wonder where that fox could possibly hide?” Lu Huayu shook his head, ”It’s impossible for her to contract with us, with the Soul Mark of the Goddess of the Silvermoon, she can’t hide her true name.

But... truly nowhere in Teraxil, ha~ Above the land, below the sun and moon, in the seas, where could she hide?

Leaving via Space Gate isn’t possible either, William... regardless of Alice’s feelings, would certainly pay attention to the mastermind harming her, otherwise, how would he dare face Hill.”

”Hill... what’s the matter?” A voice came from the window, ’An Idler’ got up, ”I, what’s wrong?”

”Maybe, check your logs?” ’Perfect Bald’ kindly reminded him.

”What... ah!” ’An Idler’ cried out, ”I’ve been poisoned, you... bunch of guys... left me lying here for half an hour?

Huh! Huh?

With so many Priests just watching me on the ground?”

”But it was Lily of the Valley who knocked you out!” Susu twisted the braids hanging on her chest, ”Getting sorted by one’s own because of a sharp tongue, isn’t it... leave him be?

It’s not costing you experience, what does it matter to lie there for a while?”

’An Idler’ was at a loss for words, he couldn’t possibly claim Lily of the Valley was an outsider?

Especially since he was among the first Black Rose groups to meet Hill... Hill’s symbol on the reputation panel shows the highest Level of Friendliness!

Lu Huayu checked the tablet: ”Exactly half an hour... our Undead Tribe’s poison resistance is twice that of normal people, so the minimum poison from Lily of the Valley causes one hour of coma?”

A vine by the window poked out, its silver bell making delightful sounds with her movements.

”Right?” Lu Huayu pondered for a moment, ”Then it must be two hours?”

Lily of the Valley’s golden bell nodded slightly.

Lu Huayu looked confused, scratching his head unconsciously.

”Because in Hill’s valley, it received the nurture of nature.” ’Perfect Bald’ smiled proudly, ”A lot of our family members have doubled natural resistance.”

”Water element doubled too?” Lu Huayu suddenly realized something... whether in Toril or this world, Black Rose always performed exceptionally well against water element enemies.

”Hehe... you guess?” ’Perfect Bald’ answered with a wry smile.
