Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1520: Chapter 98: Allies or Enemies?

Lucimar Ismail’s blunt words left the others in the room silent… As the greatest victim of those illegitimate children, he indeed had the right to speak this way.

But he never used to speak so directly.

And as nobles who were well-acquainted with the affairs of the Ishmael Household, they immediately understood what had happened.

Ted suddenly spoke, “Your mother… Count Stelter would be willing to provide her with a safe and comfortable room in his castle.”

Lucimar placed his right hand on his chest and bowed slightly, “Thank you for the kind offer, Mr. Ted.

However, it’s not necessary; she just wants to be with me now.

As for me~ I would feel awkward living in your castle~

Miss Ellie, after all, has never liked me getting close to your family’s maids!”

Ted shook his head helplessly, “Miss Ellie is great in every way except… her vision is still too shallow.

The maids won’t appreciate her interference.”

Some of the listening noble merchants couldn’t help but laugh… Lucimar never forced anything, always encouraging mutual consent… There were always some beautiful young ladies willing to make some money while they were young and beautiful.

Lucimar turned to look out the window, “My mother… although always unwilling, after recent events, especially those once cherished children dying at the hands of the Moon Clan without much reaction from him, she finally decided to give up!

If she went elsewhere, perhaps some women would do something.

But before the Undead Tribe appears, Eosca Island is likely to make Basia City face the situation first, in the eyes of those in the capital, she is risking her life for me, hence no one cares.

Probably, in their minds, the Great Sage only cares for successful sons… even if I return with my mother to avoid trouble in Basia City, that one wouldn’t entrust me with any important tasks.

Money… he is always generous, no one cares.

It’s good; so I don’t need to constantly keep close ties with them for my mother.”

“But she did choose to visit you before the appearance of the Undead Tribe.” Ted chuckled warmly, “No wonder Mr. Lucimar has so much less gloom between his brows.”

“I never imagined she would have a day to let go.” Lucimar sighed, “The unwillingness over her sacrifices, feeling like self-humiliation, is truly a maddening emotion!

Luckily, once my mother returned to normal, she remembered she has a son exiled to the seaside and safely came to me.

Truly… life is always full of ups and downs.

Although Prince Alexis has tricked me quite a bit, at least there’s still some good.”

Even Finch, who has always had a tense relationship with him, remained silent… The Finch House does resemble the Ishmael Household in some ways, but no one ever thinks their Great Sage did anything wrong.

After all, what they want are children with talents… As for the mothers of the children, they mostly take the money and leave.

Most importantly, the eldest son of the Finch House is a legitimate child and has long inherited the title. Ah, no, now it’s Little Finch’s nephew… simply because that eldest son’s talents are too poor, Chairman Finch watched helplessly as he faced the lack of successors, hence came up with such a desperate solution.

Though cruel, in fact, once the children slightly mature, they will understand the reason for their birth and their future… lacking talent means being sent to the countryside as a manor lord, lack of effort or poor talent means staying in some association serving away their whole lives.

Only those with enough talent and effort can reach the step of Little Finch.

Moreover, under the Great Sage’s authority, while the competition within the Finch House seems cruel, it is not ruthless.

No one will fail to survive, nor will anyone set their eyes on the nephew who has already inherited the title and has three direct successors.

The children of the Finch House, and those from Ishmael with constantly cold relations, can be understood, right?

Despite the diverse identities of people sitting in this spacious and bright hall, amid the disputes within the Ishmael Household, none would argue against the mighty Great Sage, but all are essentially supporting Lucimar.

The nobles took a long time to confirm that the primogeniture system was the most advantageous inheritance for maintaining their rule, how would they wish to see this tradition break from personal motives of someone, especially someone from another world?

Even if the Royal Family always has one exception, many people believe that the current chaos in the Danboro Royal Family is all due to that crooked beam set by the Great Sage… and the King’s intelligence is yet another issue.

“However…” Joshua looked at Lucimar seriously, “it’s best you continue maintaining some contact with the Royal City.”

“Hmm?” Lucimar looked at him puzzled, “Our Finch, though not very admirable, at this moment, surely wouldn’t still hide any key information, right?

Right? Chairman Finch of Basia!”

Finch drew his mouth towards him, “I think he’s worried that some in the Royal Capital might think… we, the rebels, are unworthy of knowing certain things.”

Lucimar suddenly raised his head, “How could that be? Who would be that foolish?

Ah… true, indeed, my household does have some… not too bright people.”

The people of Danboro, who are well-informed, all knew how Prince Alexis ended up in this situation.

“Then… let’s proceed as we initially agreed!” Ted stood up, “Tomorrow at dawn, all the stores that need to open should operate as usual.

We must not give the Undead Tribe the feeling that they are unwelcome.

Gentlemen, ladies, do we reach consensus on this?”

“Of course!”

“Yes!”

Voices in agreement softly echoed in the hall… The Undead Tribe’s display tonight scared quite a few people; otherwise, why would they have stepped out from their hiding places to convene this meeting so amicably!

As Ted and Joshua returned to report, Count Stelter and Ditte were with a small group of thirty knights, standing at the castle gate, awaiting the harbor bell of Basia City’s Bell Tower to ring the opening signal at six o’clock.

Count Stelter was surprised they returned so early.

“So soon?” he chuckled, “I thought it would take until tomorrow morning to conclude!”

“Mr. Lucimar suggested he already brought his mother to Basia City.” Ted whispered, “Though many things undoubtedly happened, we all know that the Great Sage is known for his love for this lady.

So if he let her out, it certainly implies this place is quite safe… That means, he who is most intimately connected to the World Master, trusts the Undead Tribe as well.”

“Hm?” Count Stelter turned towards his chief steward, raising an eyebrow with curiosity.

“I invited her to the castle as a guest, but Lucimar declined very decisively.” Ted smiled.

“Hmm… It seems we can indeed be slightly more at ease.” Count Stelter glanced towards a corner inside the gate tower, “So, Helena, there’s no need to worry so much.

Ditte’s safety is quite assured.”

“Am I worried about the Undead Tribe?” The Countess slowly emerged from the corner, “The Moon Clan is far more likely to be the threat, isn’t it?”

“Mom, the individual strength of the Moon Clan isn’t particularly formidable.” Ditte smiled helplessly while holding his horse, “If they could assassinate me, over these years, I’d have long been dead at the hands of desert bandits!”

“So… why take the risk?” Helena said reluctantly, “Clearly, you don’t have to…”

“Mom, I am a knight; battle is my duty.” Ditte said softly but firmly.

“Enough, Helena, you should return! We’ve said from the start, never be parents that stifle their child’s future!”

The bell chimed; Count Stelter waved, “Let’s move onward!

Whether the Undead Tribe is willing to accept us setting up sentry posts along this route is another matter entirely!”

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ did not make things difficult for this Lord of Basia City, and they accepted his request without a second thought.

For the Undead Tribe, it was already a habit to spare some manpower to care for the lowly NPC combat forces that always appeared during operations.

After Count Stelter left gratefully, ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ ordered people to mark Ditte and his team, instructing the Black Rose Priests responsible for guarding the walls on the Basia City side to keep an eye on their health bars at all times.

For them, this matter was merely a daily small episode.

The real trouble lay in requiring some intelligence personnel to stay in Basia City each day, keeping track of Miss Ellie who flew around the city daily inspecting her business associations.

Especially the open stall hall beneath the Hall of Abundance where anyone can conduct business… As the benevolent city lord, Miss Ellie didn’t even charge those selling daily goods for stall fees… Ellie would inspect it every morning.

And the Undead Tribe always liked setting up stalls, especially those lifestyle players starting to make weapons and clothes.

All practice creations were happily cleared out by the Danboro people!

The Alchemist Association never relied on these small items for profit, so they didn’t pay them much heed.

But Ellie was keenly interested… As someone also new to learning Alchemy, the proficiency shown by the Undead Tribe was somewhat unbelievable to her.

Thus, she would always visit those progressing at about the same pace as her, attempting to discuss the principles.

Most of the Undead Tribe, of course, did not possess that level of ability, merely following the scripts… but some excelled.

Especially a very handsome, extremely adept gentleman proficient in Western-style sweet-talk.

Ellie’s relationship with him, even with his family members, was visibly improving.

‘Snow Cloud Peak’ looked at the intelligence reports, suddenly curious, asking: “Are they really intending to foster good relations through Ellie and Hill?

Why do I feel the opposite is true?”
