Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1526: Chapter 104: The Unexpected Incident at Stelter Castle

Ellie fell awkwardly into the small garden of the castle, her eyes slightly swollen, pulling at her long skirt... quickly rushing home.

The curtains in the master bedroom on the third floor and the two rooms on the fifth floor showed slight movements.

Although there were certainly others watching her, they wouldn’t dare be so blatant, only peeking through cracks, not daring to lift the curtains.

Lind lightly walked out of his room, went to the small living room on the fifth floor, found a bottle of spirits in the liquor cabinet and poured it into a glass, adding a heap of ice cubes from the ice maker, happily sitting on the sofa waiting to drink.

”Do you really... dislike Ellie that much?” Diet also came in, picked up the wine bottle for a look, and frowned, ”You should drink fruit wine! Really... can’t handle alcohol yet dare to drink my liquor.”

”I added a lot of ice.” Lind happily told his older brother, ”Don’t worry, only a little bit gets drunk.”

Then he glanced at Diet, smirking, ”Diet, do you also think that between Ellie and me, I’m the one who gained the most?”

”Yes.” Diet said very seriously, ”Ellie was suddenly kissed by luck after she turned 10, and at that time, you were the focus of the house.

From a young age, she knew that if she wanted anything, she had to take the initiative.

And you, had everything handed to you without needing to say.

Mom... at that time, her willpower could only deal with your matters, so you got more than Ellie.

Later, the many benefits... were things she fought to get back.

I think, now that you’re grown up, you should understand.

Her abilities grew stronger, earning her more of the family’s investments.

And you, the reason it seems you got less as you grew older, is because you really lacked talents.”

”Ah... such a harsh brother.” Lind muttered, then spread his hands, ”But, brother, when I became sensible, all I saw was this Ellie.

You haven’t interacted with her for long, probably don’t feel that way.

The many things I wanted were unattainable... in the beginning, it was just a pity.

However, Ellie, as long as she wants, there’s always an unexpected surprise for her.

Of course, for the Stelter family, it was an impossible opportunity, now just a small price can obtain it... although it’s given to Ellie, the family gains benefits too.

Nobody scrutinizes how she achieved it.

Only naïve kids pray at night, hoping fate will glance at them once, just give them one chance, and they’re satisfied.

Unfortunately... the next day, they only see Ellie getting everything she wished for with a smile.”

He looked at Diet, who was furrowing his brows at him, ”I know, you all think it’s because my spiritual power was affected by spider venom, that I think this much.

Maybe?

But my mind indeed broke from this constant daily confliction.

I don’t know if I should be grateful that this matter erupted so early... at least back then, I only wanted to gain more benefits from the family, rather than wanting your inheritance position.

Maybe, after a few years, I will desire that the Stelter family belongs solely to me... lucky Rose and such, best quickly leave, never appear before me again.”

Diet shook his head helplessly, ”Logically speaking, aren’t you supposed to hate me most?

Ellie, young girl being a bit lucky, isn’t so bad right?”

”Heh~” Lind sneered, ”Did you see her obsession with Great Sage Belfran?”

”Hmm?” Diet asked puzzled, ”First love~ a bit foolish...”

”You didn’t notice she’s trying to use her luck to influence that Great Sage?” Lind chuckled, ”I don’t believe it.”

”So, you think Ellie is subconsciously using her luck to displace your survival space?” Diet suddenly understood... no wonder their mom said Lind even begrudged her for spending too much dowry on Ellie!

”Isn’t she?” Lind sneered coldly, ”Since that Mage really agreed to teach her to become a Mage that day, she’s been utilizing her talents.

Though, she seems like she knows nothing... yet she did everything!

If she’s allowed to continue this, by the time you inherit the title, dear brother...”

Lind showed a malicious smile, ”You see, you still have a title and ancestral inheritance to claim, what about me?

Perhaps I think too much, but... which second son doesn’t care about these things as I do?”

”But Ellie treats you quite well...” Diet said with an exclamation.

”I remember your good.” Lind suddenly half-lied on the sofa, covering his face with one hand, ”Hers, I’ll never feel it’s good... it’s like charity, giving me just a taste of her leftovers.”

Diet shook his head, ”You’re still influenced.

After all, it’s something she earned herself, without her, you wouldn’t even get that taste.”

”I know, I’m just...” Lind silently swallowed that phrase unwilling.

Their eldest brother has always been broad-minded, hence he can see others’ benefits.

He, however, has always been narrow-minded, thinks only of himself.

”Actually...” Lind sighed softly, ”As long as she fails once, just once.”

His voice was almost inaudible: ”Like that, at least I won’t feel like I’m...worthless at home.”

Young Master Diet couldn’t understand his little brother’s thoughts... He was a proper Knight, who had known from a young age that whatever he wanted, he should ride his horse, wield his weapon, and fight for it himself.

So he merely picked up that glass more than half full of icy water, gripped his younger brother’s neck with one large hand, and, amid his cry of ’What are you doing?’, directly poured it down his throat.

”Have a good sleep.” Diet comforted his starry-eyed brother with a remark, ”Since you say so, wake up and don’t be petty.

I still have a duty to go to!

What a...strange child.”

Leaving the limp Lind behind, Diet turned around and saw the housekeeper’s face: ”Ah! Lind is fine.”

”Young Master Diet.” The housekeeper was silent for a few seconds before speaking, ”Young Master Lind poured the drink, most likely as a show.

Even fruit wine makes him sleep a whole day.

This glass, I’m guessing he’ll need to ask his teacher for three days off!”

Diet clapped his hands: ”That’s perfect~ Saves him from causing trouble in front of Miss Ellie.

So, can our family return to peace?”

”That depends, whether Miss Ellie chooses to give up or to get braver after this weeping session.”

”What?” Diet exclaimed in disbelief, ”Hasn’t the other side made it clear they refused? And it’s obvious they’re somewhat annoyed, without even a word...

Speaking of, it’s normal, that’s the Great Sage after all!

Ellie really, can’t she see her own status?

Why should her suffering resonate with such a powerful being?”

”Young Master Lind did say something right.” The housekeeper’s expression carried a hint of silence, ”Miss Ellie, in this life, probably faced such a major failure for the first time.”

She glanced at Diet’s puzzled expression and couldn’t help but laugh: ”Is Young Master Diet thinking, so many troubles the family encounters, and yet can’t solve it?

It’s not like that.

Miss Ellie needs to genuinely feel that sense of urgency, otherwise, any desire that’s not from her heart is completely useless.

Why would the Earl try hard to make Ellie indispensable to the family...isn’t that obvious to you, Young Master Diet?”

Diet furrowed his brows: ”No, my father, even if he has some expectations for Ellie, he would never pin his hopes on such intangible luck, who are you...really?”

”Hmm?” The housekeeper made a puzzled sound.

However, Diet had already drawn the longsword from his waist and directly attacked her: ”You probably don’t understand what family and relatives mean.

Aunt Paris would never say such disgusting things to me!

Where is she? What have you done to her?”

”Ah...”

The housekeeper suddenly laughed: ”How interesting, no wonder that child views your family differently... hehe~

Indeed, it matches his consistent taste well!”

’Bang!’ The longsword in Diet’s hand flew off.

He was struck down by a suddenly appearing long whip.

’Heh~ Knowing too much can get you killed~ Hmm?’ The woman with the housekeeper’s appearance laughed a few times, then suddenly froze: ”Damn it, so quick to react? What’s with this world?”

An eerie pale light glowed, her body suddenly exploded, disappearing instantly from the living room.

”Brother... Diet!” Lind quickly turned over, helping up his brother, ”Aaaaah! Dad! Mom! Come quickly~~~~~ Help!”

’Bang bang bang!’

The glass windows on the third and fifth floors shattered simultaneously, and the Earl, holding a longsword, flipped up from below: ”Lind? Out...

Diet!”

”Boom!” The living room door at the top of the stairs was also crashed open, with Ted, followed by Countess Stelter and Paris, rushing in.

Heavy footsteps echoed from below, likely the Guard on duty charging upwards.

Yet Lind was too concerned to notice, gripping the Earl’s clothes: ”Diet... Diet was injured by a woman impersonating Aunt Paris!

He... he...”

”It’s alright, it’s alright!” Count Stelter patted his youngest son’s hair, ”Three ribs fractured, leg likely broken, but he’s alive, alive.”

”Earl, let me first fix Young Master’s bones, then feed him Holy Water.” Ted said grimly.

”How did she enter?” Countess Stelter tightly clenched her long skirt, ”All the people in the castle, they’re all...”

”Paris.” Count Stelter’s eyes flashed with fire as he watched Ted cut Diet’s clothes with a knife, his movements as gentle as possible, yet Diet still let out a painful groan, ”Go ahead... I permit you to use any means.”

Lind suddenly lifted his head: ”She disappeared into light! She didn’t know I would drink!”
