Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1508: Chapter 86: Shaken Earth

Hill, squatting in Basia City, regretfully threw out the fools from his Illusory Realm maze.

Randomly tossed into various corners of the city, nearly a hundred withered wretches who could only survive by scavenging black bread and clear water in endless grids staggered and leaned on the ground, ignoring the stinging pain that nearly blinded them, they looked up at the long-lost sun and wailed.

Fortunately, the Physical constitution of Professionals is quite robust, otherwise, in just a short time, half of them would have likely gone blind.

The commotion soon attracted the City Guard and stationed officers, who had been paying close attention to every move in Basia City recently.

As for those who could only appear in the shadows, they could only gamble on their luck… After all, no one could immediately determine the identity of these ragged, disheveled individuals before they cleaned themselves up.

But if they were a bit slower, the Guard from the Stelter Family, who had been provoked, would swarm in… Miss Ellie, that Little Fairy of the Wind Element, seemed fine, as she almost daily cast swift buffs on the City Guard going on patrol to thwart those assassins and thieves from the Desert and Oceans within Basia City.

The City Guard, whose levels were already not low, were flashing about the city like lightning these days… For ordinary citizens, they were a reassuring presence, but for those who lived in the shadows, they were truly a nuisance.

Even if they weren’t traitors, it didn’t mean they wouldn’t do bad things, right?

But the City Guard wouldn’t ignore their misconduct just because they weren’t traitors!

Now it’s even more troublesome… What was Great Sage Belfran thinking? Captured so many people, yet kept them alive?

If you’re not going to kill them, you could at least beat them half to death and release them!

This situation is making things very difficult for everyone, okay?

Deciding whether or not to go to the City Guard to retrieve the people has become a real dilemma… That damned Joshua had piled everyone up in the house built on the commercial street by Great Sage Belfran, shouting across the city asking who sent the people and asking them to come pick them up.

However, the dark circles in Basia City rarely had any formal dealings with the Stelter Family… Those military nobility, especially from the desert side, could earn a good income just by mining, so as long as their morals were a bit upright, they rarely played the black-and-white tricks in their own territories.

And the Stelter Family obviously belonged to the more upright category, they even opened many basic stores to prevent some unscrupulous merchants from controlling the lives of the citizens… Of course, they wouldn’t earn nothing at all, after all, they were nobles and not that generous, but they did control the prices within what the citizens could afford.

The reason the Stelter Family seemed to have little money was because they maintained an army… Other nobles didn’t have such a strong and numerous Guard.

And this Guard patrolled the city daily, overseeing every corner, including the slum areas.

Consequently, Basia City is indeed one of the rare, livable cities in Danboro… Even the poorest, as long as they are diligent, can survive, and even have a few sets of clean linen clothes.

After all, whether or not there are the lowest-level hooligans in the slums has a real impact on these people.

The slums of Basia City could count as a middle-class area in some cities with harsh lords!

The underworld figures who can survive in this city basically spend money to deal with other people’s disasters… In other words, they are against the Stelter Family.

And at this moment, everyone felt a bit awkward… Everyone heard Joshua’s call throughout the city, even Little Finch from the Alchemist Association had awkwardly gone to pick up people.

But as for them?

If they went, would Joshua return the people to them, or would he detain them together?

Who dares to go in first!

Returning the spies from the Great Nobility, who had already once sided with the Royal Family, to the merchant guild leaders who came to pick them up, Joshua turned around and shouted, “How about it? Ted! Did we miss any factions?”

The steward slightly shook his head: “We essentially have a good grasp of it, the leftovers… heh~”

He stared at the five people who first entered within the walls of Great Sage Belfran and said, “Three are subordinates of that intelligence broker, and the other two… should be the ones, hmph, the Second Prince placed in Basia City to keep watch.

How interesting, I always thought if he stayed so still, I couldn’t catch any of his handles.

Unexpectedly, Great Sage Belfran didn’t kill a single one of them!”

“Hmm…” Joshua said shyly, “If it were me, I’d really hope he’d just get it over with and give me a clean break.

Living like a dog… whether it’s a thief or a swordsman, even those few mages can nearly smell the scent of water from hundreds of meters away now!”

“That one clearly intended to test whether his Illusion Technique maze was effective, probably thinking there weren’t enough people who went in!

This is just over a hundred people… If it weren’t in our Basia, the Great Sage could probably trap over a thousand people!

Mages, you know~ They always gotta have their motives, right?” Ted said indifferently, “Otherwise, why keep them alive?

Isn’t black bread made from grains too?”

Joshua rolled his eyes heavenward, feeling it was unnecessary to talk to this old sly fox about such matters.

“Let’s divide the remaining people a bit between us,” Ted said, lowering his head and pointing at the list, “Those useless ones hiding in the shadows definitely won’t come to pick anyone up… These cowardly guys are pretty suitable to be recruited.

Exactly, being abandoned by their boss might just make them grateful to the Stelter Family for taking them in, which will make them easier to handle in the future.

The rest… huh~”

The head steward of the Stelter Family twisted his lips into a sharp smile, “Scarlette is obviously wary of Great Sage Belfran on that side; they won’t send someone to their death.

So… it’s likely the desert bandits or assassins paid by the Desert People.

Lock them all in the stone cell; it’s just right for the new kids up top who haven’t seen blood yet!”

Hill wasn’t in the mood to bother about the unrest in Bastion city caused by the large distribution he performed.

Although he was always merciless to those who wanted to harm him, he was too lazy to personally deal with those who had been trapped in his meticulously set labyrinth and were now somewhat mentally disintegrated… he’d consider it their payment for being experimental subjects for so long.

He slowly tidied up the items in the courtyard… leaving nothing but the lush, fresh grass.

The Undead Tribe was coming.

If he stayed in Bastion city by then, Hill really didn’t know what might happen… depending on Hill’s disposition of not easily acting against them, treating his labyrinth as a grand adventure game was the least of their transgressions.

He pondered for two days and finally decided to return to his original starting point… to go to that half-collapsed cliff.

Just right, after Hill split it open, it now resembles a triangular dart with just one head embedded into the mountain range.

Once he fortified the cliff and elevated it to the height of the clouds… although the Undead Tribe could still try to scale the cliff that’s smoother than glass and vertically towering with obsidian, it was better than staying here.

As for flying, given Hill’s understanding of William, since the Moon Clan begins at Level 5, the Undead Tribe can’t possibly make a direct appearance at Level 10 either.

Moreover, the world of the Moon Clan wouldn’t agree to such inequality; even if things have turned chaotic now, it’s all because he was asleep and was taken advantage of by Eosca.

Sigh, Hill flew in the sky and glanced back at the city… he hoped they would get along well with the Undead Tribe.

However, after experiencing the Moon Clan, they should have a decent impression of the Undead Tribe.

Comparison among companions always makes the greatest contribution.

“Great Sage Belfran, are you leaving?” A figure appeared beside Hill, it was Finch.

Hill raised an eyebrow, already Level 10?

It seems he wasn’t unable to advance before, but rather collecting more foundation.

“No, I’m moving to that cliff.” Hill replied expressionlessly, “I’m not interested in participating in your war.”

“But… the other side is the enemy of the entire world.” Finch was slightly taken aback and asked, puzzled.

“Huh~” Hill couldn’t help but laugh, “I have no idea what you’re thinking, but I can sense that you don’t genuinely wish for me to stay, so what are you probing?”

“The mages are all confused now.” Finch remained silent for a long time before speaking softly, “If the world can accommodate miracles, then of course it will return to the legendary middle-magic world, where mages wouldn’t need to leave Aesces to easily advance to Levels 16 and above, perhaps even reaching a Deity-comparable Level 20.

But those are invaders, our life, and honor all exist because of Aesces, who would be willing to give up all this?

If surrendering were an option, we might as well go straight to the Heavenly Realm at that time.

Though Aesces is strict, it also gives us a path to follow.”

Hill shook his head: “That’s your business. I come from beyond the world and will eventually return there. Some matters aren’t suitable for involvement.”

“I see,” Finch said, seemingly enlightened, “even though there have been similar legends, you’re still the first guest from the Heavenly Realm whom Aesces has allowed into the continent in the last hundred years!”

Hill smiled indifferently: “Aesces’ power confinement is strong, saying all these have no meaning.”

“Alright, sir.” Finch quietly stepped aside, “However, if Scarlette attempts to contact you…”

Hill waved dismissively, reluctant to engage with his probing any further, turned, and flew off… how could a mage who could be allowed by Aesces into the world choose to cooperate with Triton?

Finch still wanted to know if the mage, wanting freedom, decided to head to Eosca Island, what Hill would do… whoever wants to seek death, let them do so, what’s it to him?

Three days after elevating the cliff pillar to the Cloud Realm, standing on the balcony, Hill felt the tremor of the earth.

In the center of Bastion city, a meticulously engraved altar adorned with flowing purple veils rose… one by one, figures of varying shapes slowly appeared.
