Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1506: Chapter 84: Hill’s Bear Claw Tree Leaf

Stelter Castle was enveloped in silence.

As nobles with long-standing military honors, they undoubtedly realized that Basia, this distant trade city, had already turned into a battlefield.

Danboro, or rather the Aesces standing behind Danboro, would absolutely not allow the existence of that so-called Eosca Island to continue.

”Wait, Ellie!” Helena suddenly stood up.

Then everyone reacted... The luminous figure standing behind Alexis was obviously a Storm Fairy.

If he had such a powerful fairy with a hidden conspiracy before, he definitely wouldn’t have moved into the Luximar’s residence... Even if Luximar didn’t notice, there was a Great Sage living next door!

Although it might be because Great Sage Belfran had good character that he didn’t take an interest in his Storm Fairy, and didn’t spread the news... But before that, who could be sure?

No one would think that a Great Sage couldn’t discover such an obvious elemental creature.

Since seeing how useful Great Sage Ismael’s Fire Fairy was, many powerful mages hoped to have an elemental creature of their own!

Even Great Sage Finch might be tempted.

So, it must’ve been after Alexis and Ellie’s relationship improved that he got it... And in Basia City, the only one who could provide him with clues was undoubtedly Ellie’s Wendy.

No, no, damn it, if it’s true... how could Wendy belong to Ellie?

Helena grabbed her skirt and dashed towards the garden: When Ellie was home, she always liked to synchronize with Wendy there.

The Stelter family rushed to the garden behind her, with only Lind hesitantly following from afar.

It wasn’t that he didn’t care about his sister... Though he often wished for Ellie’s misfortune, he never wanted her dead.

But for the first time, Lind felt that luck was truly a double-edged sword.

He frowned and thought as he walked towards the garden: If Wendy had taken interest in him first, could he resist the temptation?

If Wendy was of the same ilk as the entity behind Alexis, then surely this Breeze Fairy had also once tried to tempt Ellie, but failed... In some respects, Ellie was indeed a good person. She might consider herself first, but she would never easily harm others.

Lind, though silent about it, understood his sister’s character... After all, if he were in Ellie’s position, even if he wouldn’t retaliate against those who wronged him, he would never bother with them again and would watch them suffer without extending a hand to help.

But unlike him, Ellie would try to steer him right, even giving up much of Yanos teacher’s teaching time for him... Despite his youth, Lind had already fallen behind in the mage’s path. If he couldn’t become a mage before the age of 30, the road ahead would be much harder.

Ellie’s attitude towards others might be irksome at times... Especially with her spoiled mindset of ’everything I want should belong to me’ and ’it’s pointless for anyone to compete with me,’ which was given to her by a lifetime of good fortune.

Anyone else in her shoes, getting everything they wanted, would likely feel the same.

Lind understood that although Alexis had a high status, in terms of friendship with the Scaret people and the location of that island... Even if it was Triton, it wouldn’t be easy to build an island so close to Danboro without the World Master noticing, and it was clearly for a future war.

And back when Basia City decided to build here, and only nobles with military distinctions could become city lords, King Danboro must have anticipated this.

Then there was Ellie’s importance in the Stelter family... Count Stelter couldn’t bear to let go of Lind, even if he claimed he didn’t want to waste the efforts invested. What about Ellie?

Whether it’s the love for a daughter or the resources spent on the family’s only mage, it was even more difficult to let go.

As long as Count Stelter hesitated because of Ellie, their family could never be accepted by Aesces.

What would happen to their family then?

Lind’s little scheming was all about snatching more within his own family... Without the count and Ditte’s protection, he, who’s not even a Professional, might be the first to die!

Lind silently glanced at the garden... His mother’s loud exclamations were already audible, indicating that Ellie was alright.

Good, it was fortunate that Ellie was a good person and not weak... Lind didn’t believe that Alexis truly intended to betray the country; after all, he was a prince with inheritance rights!

So, in the future, he should try not to always think about competing with his sister?

”Ah... Mom~ Don’t worry.” Ellie’s voice came from the garden, ”Wendy isn’t actually Wendy... Ah, no, Wendy might be called Wendy, but she isn’t my Wendy.

She must have forcibly occupied the body of a mindless Breeze Fairy, but out of fear of being discovered by the World Master, she only divided a trace of her Divine Soul to secretly control it... So sometimes she could communicate with me, and other times she just shouted my name.

Earlier, when something happened to Alexis, Wendy tried to control me through this little fairy, but she didn’t expect that my Soul Power was unexpectedly strong, even surpassing that trace of Divine Soul.

Fortunately, I was lucky enough that when Great Sage Belfran took me in, he felt my Soul Power was insufficient, so he specially taught me some simple methods for a mage to cultivate Soul Power, and even gave me some potions to drink.”

She was still smiling as she explained, ”Don’t worry, really, Dad, Mom, brother, although Wendy’s power is terrifying, I held on until the World Master discovered it... Even though the power from Aesces is overwhelming, he didn’t harm me but instead crushed Wendy’s Divine Soul into dust.

I actually benefited a lot; Wendy’s Divine Soul was apparently of a high level, and after it shattered in my Mental Sea, it greatly increased my spiritual power!

Then this Breeze Fairy, the World Master also left it to me... Surely he thinks there are no issues, which is why he left it!

Luckily, I never thought about reigning supreme or becoming the next Great Sage Ismael. Wendy probably made me dream about similar things, but I... um... still prefer the beauty of nature.”

”Hmm? What nature?

Oh~ oh... okay, if you say nature, then nature it is.

No matter what, luckily you have good luck...” The voice of Countess Stelter faintly came through, ”Your father and brother were truly worried.

If you were controlled like Alexis, what would we do!”

Lind was plucking leaves one by one from a small tree at the garden’s edge... He had just vowed not to oppose Ellie, yet he immediately regretted it, isn’t that a bit bad?

But he was really angry!

It’s not that he didn’t understand; Ellie was rewarded because her disposition was good enough. If it were him, he’d probably have been doomed... but he was still furious, furious!

”Lind!” Ditte suddenly shouted from the other side, ”What are you hiding there for? Do you want Ellie to think you don’t care about her at all?

Since you’ve come, then come over!”

”I really don’t care about her!” Lind angrily plucked a handful of leaves and stomped heavily as he walked in.

”It’s okay~” The emboldened Miss Stelter, realizing she had narrowly escaped death, looked at her brother who denied his feelings with a grin, ”I know Lind still loves me.

Let’s consider past events all forgiven~”

Lind glanced at his family, standing there with cheerful expressions, and begrudgingly walked over, ”Let me make it clear; I can’t promise I won’t trick you in the future.

Someone like you, if not tricked by me, will be tricked by someone outside.

Ha~

People with too much luck are always missing some flaw!

Otherwise, how would others survive!”

”Did you hear what he said?” Aesces seriously spoke to Hill, ”Sometimes I feel the same way.

So, what are you missing?”

”Missing virtue?” Hill sneered, ”I can become even more unprincipled in the future!”

”Ah...” Aesces quickly changed his tune, ”Where’s your token? I need to go talk to Coron and your William.”

Hill hesitated for a moment and then took out a Mithril Leaf with a Bear Claw imprint... Probably only those Earth Bears could compress Mithril to be thinner than paper.

If done through Spells or Alchemy, indeed those strong enough could also change Mithril’s shape, but in that case, the Mithril would end up being thin sheets formed after melting, mingling with air or other substances, altering its nature somewhat.

Only through pure physical means can it be compressed this thin... But using those Gravity devices, they can’t handle such small pieces of Mithril.

Hmm... which means the Mithril Leaf is essentially a mark of the Earth Bears to some extent.

And not to mention it also has the Bear Claw imprint, which hardly anyone can etch such delicate designs directly onto Mithril.

So, though someone might impersonate Hill’s Mental Mark, adding this leaf guarantees the message is indeed from him.

Placing the words he wanted to say gently into the leaf and tying a few knots with his spiritual power, Hill put it in his palm: ”Take it~ Remember, apart from Coron and William, others who get it won’t hear the words.”

”Um...” Aesces hesitated for a while before speaking, ”You being so cautious scares me.

With your current ability, could anyone in the Multiverse impersonate you?

The knots tied with your spiritual power aren’t easy for me to untie!”

”That’s why I never encounter big issues, what about you?” Hill’s eyes involuntarily creased, he softly chuckled, ”Handle small matters by yourself, for big ones being totally unprepared?”

”I’ll go find Coron, Mark City has already entered our teleportation channel!” Aesces didn’t plan to further humiliate himself... After today, he’s completely unable to hold his head up high in front of Hill.
