Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1503: Chapter 81: The Enemy Alliance Is Officially Established

Does Alexis really understand Eosca’s purpose? Hill can’t tell for now, but he can be sure that this prince doesn’t fully trust this suddenly appearing wind and thunder fairy, who claims to make him powerful beyond Ismael.

Yet he has never considered giving up such an opportunity.

Every successful person actively seizes every opportunity at hand, whether good or bad, their willingness to gamble is quite heavy.

Like Hill, who moves cautiously even with an eighty percent certainty, escaping faster than a rabbit at the slightest sign of trouble, basically has no chance of becoming king or overlord... although he never intended to, but in normal perception, such people are usually called second-generation heirs.

He may not lack capabilities, but he chooses to live in his comfort zone and never challenges the impossible.

Sometimes it seems like he’s taking risks, but in reality, every survival measure is taken to the extreme.

Unlike Alexis, who knows the other party might be calculating against him and his life could truly be at risk, yet insists on continuing with such a great adventure—Hill completely disagrees... Eosca is connecting him with Prince Scaret!

Once such things are exposed, let alone any chance of succession, even ending up like his brother in the dungeon would be considered lucky.

As long as Alexis stays in Basia City, with Hill, the so-called Great Sage, not planning to leave, there won’t be much danger.

But he obviously isn’t willing to give up his ambition just like that.

Even though the Ishmael Family seems to value his life, Alexis can tell they only see potential in him but never intend to assist him.

What good is such potential then?

If not for Lucimar’s willingness to let him stay at his home... with the help of Eo, Alexis’s hearing improved significantly, allowing him to penetrate some low-level soundproof arrays, and he has overheard more than once the female deputy arranged by the Ismael Family persuading Lucimar to move back to the Ismael base and not stay too close with Alexis.

The Ismael Family doesn’t want to appear too close to any prince.

Lucimar always had severe disagreements with his family and is easy-going, so he completely ignored the woman’s words.

But what if it were someone else?

Protected from ten kilometers away... ha~ is it protection or waiting to collect his corpse?

How many people in this city are plotting to assassinate him? He wasn’t sure before, but after gaining Eo, Alexis secretly scouted for several nights, and it was truly frightening.

He’s immensely grateful to Lucimar for taking him home and becoming neighbors with the Great Sage, for his own guards are merely at Knight level 10 at best, with only one at that level, far from able to protect his life from so many assassins above level 10!

Alexis doesn’t understand why he faces such inhumane assassination attempts, feeling heavy-hearted; have his brothers decided to eliminate him first, even though he poses no threat but holds the right of succession?

But he has never meddled in the power center! His only influence came from his maternal family... which the King then purged.

Normally, brothers like him are used by future successor kings as a façade showing that they are still humane!

Truly leaving none will make the Royal Family synonymous with cruelty, so who would dare birth children in the future?

If Alexis shared his findings and doubts with Lucimar, he might get the correct answer.

The Ismael Family, seemingly warm and secure, in reality, is like a drafty little wooden house.

Just as Great Sage Ismael contacted Lucimar in the family’s communication room, warning him to watch over Alexis’s safety, this message probably spread to various great families... especially those with princes behind them.

No matter the reason Great Sage pays attention to Alexis, his brothers, intensely struggling, simultaneously ordered... as long as he’s gone, there’s no need to find a reason.

Therefore, Alexis indeed remembers Lucimar’s kindness and doesn’t need to appreciate the Great Sage or others from the Ismael Family... Without them, his bounty wouldn’t be as high as it is now.

But precisely because of facing such cruel realities, Alexis unhesitatingly agreed to meet with Prince Scaret.

They prepared thoroughly... it’s a huge belly cave that can be accessed through twisted rock crevices overhead or swam up from a deep seabed entrance below.

Both parties assured that only on their side would they use spells... illusion techniques and various defensive magic arrays.

The illusion array in the middle region, which exudes a strong soundproofing and isolation aura, was made by both sides together, with each contributing half of the materials, and inspection could only occur under their own watchful eyes.

Handling these matters for Scaret was naturally that old man of the Great Sage level, while Alexis only arranged for his wind and thunder fairies to handle these tasks.

This is why Hill feels that Alexis is actually well aware... Alexis is not the kind of arrogant person who thinks he’s so uniquely favored as to make such a powerful elemental creature a pet.

When he talks to Eo, he is also very careful, trying not to accidentally reach an agreement with Eo... All his sentences are imperative, absolutely devoid of ambiguity, allowing the other party no room for free interpretation.

Yet, in such a mutually-concealing alliance, he can still confidently arrange for Eosca to handle things, which Hill admired greatly.

The first meeting between these two did not result in any agreement, merely exchanging pleasantries... Even their choice of words was extremely cautious, not allowing themselves to be at a disadvantage in front of the other.

But Hill somewhat understood the contract content for which they were willing to meet and strive... The Scaret People promised not to attempt to assassinate Alexis again and were willing to protect him while he stayed in Basia City, whereas Alexis promised to open another port city for Scaret in the future.

Both of them were not entirely honest in their words... One did not specify the level of protection, whether it would be the help of a Great Sage or ordinary guards, which are two completely different matters.

The other mentioned only opening another port city... The reason Basia City existed was due to Danboro’s rare truce agreement promising a trading center, which led them to simply build a new one.

Basia City was once just a small fishing village, which was thoroughly cleansed for wanting to worship the Sea God, leaving no one behind.

Who besides the Stelter Family, known for their tough military achievements and often seeing blood, would dare take on such a task?

The perfunctory and evasive nature detectable by Hill was certainly understood by these two princes, who had been immersed in power struggles since childhood, and after exchanging glances, the tense and stiff atmosphere unexpectedly eased considerably.

Tilting his head, Hill pondered for a long time before somewhat understanding: So is this confirming that the other party indeed has no intent to deceive? Otherwise, they wouldn’t propose such rough terms?

Even though there’s no sincerity, who would be so frank to a mortal enemy?

The lack of preparation on both sides further evidenced the viability of this matter.

Alexis had no intention to inquire about any collusion between Eo and the opposite God System, he was just seriously discussing every detail of the contract with Prince Scaret.

The discussion between them for the first contract alone lasted three days.

Despite the redundancy, they insisted on prolonged discussions, which made both princes uncharacteristically display the same expression—one of mutual sympathy—when they met.

Fortunately, the discussions between Eosca and Triton finally reached a conclusion.

Although Alexis did not understand why he and Prince Scaret had to be together for those schemers to find an opportunity, he had no intention of asking, seriously reaching another preliminary agreement with Prince Scaret: as long as the Scaret People help him eliminate those assassins, he could guarantee that if he becomes the King of Danboro, he would never close Scaret’s trading rights in Basia City.

This contract seemed satisfactory for both parties—for Alexis, increasing the trade regions is a hassle, but adhering to the policies set by his grandfather is simple and blame-free.

Meanwhile, Scaret gains at least another hundred years of commercial commitments, ensuring they can still access continental supplies, which they temporarily find satisfactory.

Both understood that Triton and Eo’s alliance could only be against Aesces.

For Danboro, with Ismael’s support, as long as they can endure through the upcoming chaos, their relationship with Scaret is bound to turn adversarial once again.

Though it appeared Scaret was giving up much for merely Alexis’s verbal promise of uncertain kingship, the difficulty indeed lay more with the latter.

As for the aforementioned, it was all stalling talk... Scaret dared to dispatch a Great Sage for personal protection, yet Alexis himself wouldn’t dare to accept!

Hill couldn’t help but rub his temples... Why can such a trivial matter create the effect of a game of espionage?

Hill clenched his fists, thinking if it were him, he might either flee far away or knock down whoever he could, and then flee far again.

Unfortunately, he dared not touch the dimensional-space-laden water ball above the two princes... His spiritual power merely probed a little and discovered the power of the Sea God and space spreading at the entrance.

If he had to go in and take a look, Hill could manage it... Both individuals had suppressed their powers to extremely low levels to avoid Aesces noticing.

Nonetheless, Hill had no interest in wasting his power... What if matters escalate and attract Aesces’s attention?
