Chapter 385: Chapter 245: The Difference is Clear! Master-Level Emergency Treatment (2)

The expressions on the two deans’ faces changed as well. Their impression of Director Cui was worsening, but his excuses were logical and impossible to refute.

”Director Guan, my apologies. The traffic was a bit heavy. What’s the situation now?”

Just as everyone was feeling angry and helpless about Director Cui’s decision, Zhang Heng finally arrived on the scene.

”Director Zhang, you’re finally here. Director Wu and Director Duan have decided to operate on Teacher Fu, but the surgical team is still short one person.”

Director Cui was a little surprised to see Zhang Heng, but he quickly composed himself. He knew Zhang Heng was at City First Hospital.

He was well aware of Zhang Heng’s skill in hepatobiliary surgery.

’If it’s him and Zhang Heng, and then they bring along this Wu Ting... yes, their combined skill should be enough.’

’It’s just that the conditions in this operating room are a bit lacking, and the equipment is subpar. Still, it’s not like the surgery is impossible.’

”Zhang Heng!”

Director Cui called out.

Zhang Heng hadn’t expected to see Director Cui here, either. They had collaborated on many surgeries back at Jin Province Tumor Hospital.

He exchanged greetings, then glanced doubtfully at Wu Ting and Duan Xingping. ’Isn’t the team already complete?’

At this point, Guan Bao could only bite the bullet and explain:

”Director Zhang, Director Cui and Director Wu have both confirmed Teacher Fu’s condition. It’s a case of peripartum spontaneous liver rupture... She was just stabilized with CPR and needs surgery as soon as possible...”

”The disagreement between Director Cui and Director Wu is over the surgical plan and location. Director Wu thinks she needs surgery immediately, right here—an immediate laparotomy to stop the bleeding. Director Cui believes this school’s operating room conditions and equipment are poor, and the surgical staff is insufficient. He recommends immediately transferring her to City First Hospital for a joint operation with Director Huo and Director Cai to guarantee the success rate.”

After Guan Bao finished speaking, Director Cui, standing to the side, put on an air of authority and spoke to Zhang Heng.

”Director Zhang, I didn’t expect you to be here. With you joining us, we can team up. I’ll be the chief surgeon, you’ll be the first assistant, and with Director Wu, we can give it a shot. I just... can’t guarantee the success rate.”

Duan Xingping showed no dissatisfaction with Director Cui’s words, but he stepped aside, looking somewhat dejected.

”No need. I’ll be the chief surgeon. Director Zhang, you and Director Duan will assist me.”

”We’re starting now.”

Wu Ting flatly rejected Director Cui’s offer to join. He was extremely confident in his ability to perform this surgery and had no intention of handing the scalpel to an opportunist like Director Cui, who shirked responsibility.

Director Cui clearly hadn’t expected Wu Ting to refuse him.

’He was willing to step in,’ he thought, ’so shouldn’t Wu Ting have the sense to cooperate? Besides, Zhang Heng was an expert that City First Hospital had poached from Jin Province Tumor Hospital with a huge salary.’

’That young man, Zhang Heng, is incredibly proud. It was only because of my own seniority and experience that I even dared to ask him to be my assistant.’

’You’re so young, Wu Ting. Do you really think Zhang Heng will just obediently assist you?’

Director Cui said nothing, simply looking at Zhang Heng and awaiting his decision.

”Director Cui, I’m sorry.”

”Since Director Wu has made the call... Director Duan, let’s get ready. We’ll assist with the surgery immediately.”

”Director Cui, please step aside.”

Zhang Heng was now thoroughly impressed by Wu Ting. Besides, when it came to surgery for a ruptured liver, Wu Ting’s skills were far superior to Director Cui’s.

Zhang Heng’s respect for Director Cui had only ever been due to his seniority and position.

He didn’t agree with some of the man’s views or his way of doing things.

Director Cui never expected Zhang Heng to pull a stunt like this. His face contorted with rage.

”Director Wu, Director Zhang, Director Duan. We’re counting on you.”

He Chunmin had sharp judgment and a strong personality; she had taken in the entire situation at a glance.

Between Wu Ting and Director Cui, she chose to trust Wu Ting.

She had the most contempt for people like Director Cui—irresponsible and indecisive.

”Alright. Then let’s begin the surgery immediately.”

The two deans and Professor Long likewise supported Wu Ting and Director Duan.

Guan Bao glanced at Director Cui, feeling a sense of secondhand embarrassment. For a doctor, character was just as important as medical skill, seniority, and experience.

Only a doctor with both skill and integrity could truly earn the respect and trust of patients and their families. Director Cui’s earlier display of cowardice made one doubt whether he would have given the surgery his all.

With the decision to operate made, they began to clear the room. The two deans escorted Director He out.

”Director Guan, please escort all non-essential personnel out. We’re about to begin the surgery.”

Director Duan glanced over at Director Cui, who had yet to move, and was unceremonious in his dismissal.

Director Cui had originally intended to observe—perhaps offering some guidance from the sidelines—but he hadn’t expected Duan Xingping to drive him out so directly.

”I can assist from the sidelines...”

But before he could finish, Guan Bao grabbed his arm and led him out.

Outside the operating room, a crowd of students had gathered, along with the two deans, Professor Long, and the patient’s family member, Director He. At that moment, they saw Director Cui and Guan Bao emerge.

Many of the students began to murmur amongst themselves.

”What’s going on? Aren’t they operating on Teacher Fu? Why did Director Cui come out?”

”Isn’t he the director of the emergency department at Jin Province Tumor Hospital? He even lectures us in emergency medicine. I thought he said he was an expert in handling emergencies like liver ruptures and massive hemorrhaging.”

”I don’t know. It looks like Director Wu, Director Duan, and Director Zhang—the one who just arrived—are the ones operating on Teacher Fu.”

”I overheard a little bit... Apparently, Director Cui refused to be the chief surgeon for Teacher Fu. I think he was afraid the surgery would fail.”
