Chapter 384: Chapter 245: The Verdict is Clear! Master-level First Aid

The ambulance from City First Hospital soon arrived at Fan City University Medical College.

Wu Ting and Yasui, the doctors from the ambulance, arrived at the school clinic. After a brief greeting with the deans and directors, Wu Ting immediately began his examination.

Based on the previous ultrasound and the results of the abdominal paracentesis, Wu Ting made his diagnosis.

”The patient is suffering from a peripartum spontaneous liver rupture. We need to perform hepatic hemostasis immediately. Any further delay could easily lead to multiple organ failure and death.”

”It’s too far to our hospital’s emergency room. We have to perform a laparotomy right now.”

Wu Ting looked at Director Duan and the others, his tone grave. Teacher Fu’s condition was critical.

Hearing that Wu Ting’s diagnosis was identical to Director Cui’s, everyone felt a pit in their stomach. They were extremely anxious, afraid that Wu Ting, just like Director Cui, wouldn’t dare to perform the surgery at the school clinic.

Worried, Professor Long asked tentatively:

”Then, Director Wu, can you perform this surgery? Here, with such limited facilities?”

The two deans behind him were also watching the young man. Though Wu Ting was young, his reputation in Fan City’s medical community was impressive. This was especially true after he had just taught an emergency medicine class on Monday that received rave reviews from the Medical College students.

As such, the two deans had high hopes for Wu Ting.

Director Cui watched from the sidelines with a cold expression. He was already slightly irritated because Wu Ting’s class had been scheduled before his and was more popular with the students.

Now, he wanted to see what decision Wu Ting would make.

In his judgment, the chances of a successful surgery at the school clinic were very low. Wu Ting was young and relatively inexperienced, and with a patient who could die at any moment, the pressure was immense.

Director Cui believed that Wu Ting would, in all likelihood, refuse to operate here. ’After all, he’s just an up-and-comer. There’s no need for him to wreck his career over this.’

In the hallway outside, many students had gathered, waiting for news. Teacher Fu was approachable and well-loved by the student body, and they were all deeply concerned.

In the heavy atmosphere, Wu Ting didn’t hesitate for a second, nodding decisively.

”Of course. We need to operate immediately. I’ll be the lead surgeon, but I’ll need two assistants.”

Hearing Wu Ting agree to take the lead, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, filled with both admiration and excitement.

A smile spread across Duan Xingping’s face. ’This is the Wu Ting I know. He never backs down or runs from a crisis. With him around, there’s always hope and reassurance.’

Although Director Duan wasn’t qualified to lead this kind of surgery, he was more than capable of assisting.

”Director Wu, I’ll assist you.”

Seeing Director Duan join the surgical team without a moment’s hesitation,

the two deans and Professor Long nodded in approval, appreciating his decisiveness and sense of responsibility.

Even Guan Bao had to admit that, at this moment, he truly admired Director Duan.

With two doctors on the team, they just needed one more to officially begin.

All eyes turned to Director Cui.

”How is Huihui?”

Just then, an elegant woman rushed over. She was fifty but so well-maintained that she looked to be in her early forties.

Dean Duan and Dean Xia turned to see the newcomer. It was Teacher Fu’s mother, He Chunmin, who was also the wife of Fan City’s Vice-Mayor, Fu Hongyan.

He Chunmin was the former director of the Fan City Health Bureau, now retired.

She had rushed over as soon as she heard what had happened to her daughter.

”Sister He, our Director Wu and Director Duan are already assembling a surgical team to operate on Teacher Fu.”

Dean Duan reassured Director He and quickly explained the situation.

He Chunmin was, after all, the vice-mayor’s wife and the former director of the Health Bureau. She possessed a certain level of composure and calm.

”Then I’ll be counting on Director Wu and all of you. If it’s possible, please begin the surgery as soon as you can. I’ll sign the consent forms.”

Seeing Director He, Guan Bao immediately turned to Director Cui and pleaded.

”Director Cui, Director Wu is willing to lead the surgery, and Director Duan will assist. We’re still one doctor short. Director Cui, would you consider joining the team and operating on Teacher Fu with Director Wu?”

”You said it yourself, Teacher Fu’s condition is critical. The longer we delay, the worse her chances become.”

Since Guan Bao was the one who had invited Director Cui, it was most appropriate for him to make the request.

Despite Guan Bao’s plea, Director Cui remained unmoved.

”I stand by my original assessment. The risks of operating on Teacher Fu are too great, and there are too many uncontrollable variables. I don’t believe the conditions or the surgical team here are adequate to perform this operation.”

”I still recommend transferring Teacher Fu directly to the trauma bay at City First Hospital to perform the procedure there. While City First Hospital’s overall capabilities aren’t on par with our Jin Province Tumor Hospital, with Huo Yun, Cai Qi, and myself—the three of us—the chances of a successful surgery would be much more secure.”

At this point, Director Cui’s refusal wasn’t just about avoiding risk; he was also simply unhappy with Wu Ting and looked down on Duan Xingping.

Moreover, he didn’t really trust a young man like Wu Ting to be the lead surgeon. This was no ordinary surgery, and he didn’t know much about him.

’Wu Ting isn’t worthy of having me, the distinguished Director of the Emergency Department at Jin Province Tumor Hospital, act as his assistant!’

’As for Duan Xingping, a doctor from some county hospital? He’s completely beneath consideration.’

Guan Bao couldn’t believe it. ’This Director Cui is so concerned with saving his own skin, so utterly devoid of any sense of duty!’
