Chapter 362: Chapter 238: Prestige! Regular Consultation Upgrades to Specialist Slot

Wu Ting’s rate of promotion was unprecedented in the history of City First Hospital.

Generally speaking, a young doctor starting from their internship needs over three years of residency experience before they even get a chance to see patients on their own.

But who else could be like Wu Ting? He’d only just started seeing patients on his own and had already skyrocketed to a specialist designation.

Specialist clinics were a product of Jin Country’s reform and development.

In Jin Country, market-oriented economic reforms had drastically raised the income levels of both urban and rural residents. As living standards improved, people naturally began to place more importance on their health, leading to higher expectations for medical care. When they got sick, they wanted to see famous doctors and specialists for diagnosis and treatment.

This led to the gradual development of specialist clinics out of the regular outpatient system. City First Hospital followed this trend, establishing designated clinics run by senior medical personnel with the rank of associate chief physician or higher. These are what are commonly known as specialist clinics.

The advent of specialist clinics not only brought economic benefits to the hospital, but more importantly, they allowed most patients to receive swift and effective treatment, which in turn boosted the hospital’s reputation.

Specialist clinics also helped optimize medical resources. The higher appointment fees for specialists served as a deterrent for patients with common, uncomplicated illnesses. This reduced the low-level workload of top experts, allowing their value to be truly utilized and promoting a more rational allocation of medical resources.

Assigning highly skilled, senior physicians to specialist clinics also allowed them to earn greater compensation from the higher appointment fees. This fostered a sense of competition among the other doctors. It also created a role-model effect: physicians of the same rank were motivated to improve their professional skills, while lower-ranked doctors were given a clear goal to strive for. Ultimately, this helped elevate the hospital’s overall standard of medical care.

From the hospital’s perspective, this competitive environment ensured that the specialists’ skills were constantly improving. This allowed each department to develop its own unique strengths, laying a solid foundation for the growth of City First Hospital through superb medical techniques and comprehensive services.

Director Xu’s visit to Wu Ting this time was a sign of the hospital’s recognition of his skill and reputation.

The basic system at City First Hospital was that junior and mid-level doctors handled the regular outpatient clinics, while doctors with senior titles were selected to run the specialist clinics. Typically, a newly promoted associate chief physician would have to go through a period of gaining experience before being considered for a specialist clinic. Qin Donglai, for example, had earned his promotion through slow, steady, and diligent work—an accumulation of quantity over time—so he had not yet been appointed to a specialist clinic.

Zhang Heng had the right title, but he was considered too young and lacking in experience, so he also remained in the regular outpatient clinic.

Ordinarily, an associate chief physician would need to accumulate around ten years of clinical experience before getting a chance to be appointed to a specialist clinic.

For someone like Wu Ting—so young and having just received an exceptional promotion to associate chief—to be appointed directly to a specialist clinic was a testament to his skill and influence.

After his promotion from the regular outpatient clinic to a specialist clinic, Wu Ting’s schedule underwent a major change.

In terms of both quantity and quality!

Regular doctors held clinic hours from Monday to Friday, working from morning until the end of the day.

But now, Wu Ting would only need to hold clinic hours a few days a week, and only for half a day each time.

Likewise, whereas before he would see any patient who came in, now that he was running a specialist clinic, he would primarily be diagnosing and treating relatively complex and difficult cases.

After informing Wu Ting that his regular clinic status had been upgraded to specialist, Director Xu discussed the weekly time slots for his new clinic with him before politely taking his leave.

Upon receiving the new scheduling plan from the outpatient office, the hospital’s administrative department worked overnight to update all the relevant documents.

In the department hallway, the display with Wu Ting’s information, which had only recently been updated, was immediately updated again.

And this time, it was a major update:
