Chapter 352: Chapter 235: Two Academicians

As invited experts, Wu Ting and Liu Rong entered the main conference hall, while Jin Yihong and the others could only wait outside, watching the proceedings on a large screen.

After following Dean Liu inside, Wu Ting took a seat in the hepatobiliary surgery section.

Wu Ting glanced around, a sense of excitement building within him. After all, everyone selected for this conference was a top expert from various fields across the country.

This was especially true of the main stage, where two esteemed Scholars were presiding, lending immense gravity to the event.

As Wu Ting’s gaze swept across the room, he spotted Jiang Ming, who had come to the conference with Scholar Jiang.

Jiang Ming had been pursuing advanced studies at Xingke University Hospital, and in his spare time, he often accompanied department heads and Scholar Jiang’s disciples to various top-tier academic conferences.

This time, thanks to Scholar Jiang’s support, Jiang Ming had also been assigned to this conference as an auxiliary staff member.

Of course, Jiang Ming currently lacked the qualifications and ability to participate in proposing and writing these kinds of clinical guidelines. His main purpose here was to make an appearance and get to know some of the bigwigs in the industry.

Seeing Wu Ting, Jiang Ming felt a sense of both familiarity and admiration.

After all, Wu Ting had earned his spot at this conference on his own merit.

Jiang Ming had already planned to recommend Wu Ting to his grand-uncle and was preparing to introduce them during a break in the conference.

Jiang Ming gave Wu Ting a wave before getting back to work.

Wu Ting, in turn, settled into his seat, ready to listen to the experts’ opening remarks.

The conference was chaired by Dr. Cui Zhengxun.

Dr. Cui Zhengxun began by introducing the World Health Organization’s strategic plan for clinical medicine development and its recent progress.

Following that, representatives from among the assembled experts each gave a presentation on the specific progress made in drafting the clinical practice guidelines for their respective fields.

Scholar Zeng Jiu was the second representative to speak:

”...At present, we have established a clear framework for drafting the clinical practice guidelines. We must build on this foundation and emphasize the experimental and practical nature of these guidelines...”

”...At the same time, we should involve other disciplines in the drafting process. This will allow us to pool our collective wisdom, overcome our inherent limitations, and make the clinical practice guidelines more comprehensive...”

In his speech, Scholar Zeng particularly encouraged the new generation of experts. He urged them to not only advance their own specialized fields but also to focus on interdisciplinary studies. This, he argued, would make their clinical and research mindsets more comprehensive and help them overcome the inherent limitations of their respective specializations.

Surgery itself is a comprehensive discipline where fields blend, influence, and promote one another. Therefore, Scholar Zeng also encouraged the experts present to learn from and communicate with each other, creating new intellectual sparks through the collision of ideas between different disciplines.

When Scholar Zeng finished his speech, the audience broke into enthusiastic applause.

Wu Ting deeply agreed with Scholar Zeng’s invaluable advice. In fact, he was already walking that very path, striving to become a versatile, all-around surgeon.

Wu Ting knew of Scholar Zeng Jiu as Ma Mengchao’s mentor; he was a true titan in the medical community of the Jin Country.

Scholar Zeng was an academician of the Jin Country Engineering Academy, one of the pioneers and principal founders of liver surgery in the Jin Country. He was hailed as the ”Father of Hepatobiliary Surgery of the Jin Country” and was considered one of the scholars from the Jin Country Continent with the potential to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

In 2001, he was elected as an academician of the Jin Country Engineering Academy...

In 2013, he received the National Highest Science and Technology Award...

The Jin Country named asteroid 17909 the ”Zeng Jiu Star” in his honor...

In 2016, he was named one of the Annual Figures Who Inspired the Jin Country...

He was the first in the international community to propose the new concept of ”precision surgery,” establishing the paradigm of precision hepatobiliary surgery.

The concept gained widespread recognition in academic circles both domestically and internationally. It has been incorporated into eight national-level industry guidelines, compiled into the national standardized surgery textbook, and featured in the Southern Country-published textbook, Heptobiliary Cancer!

He oversaw the establishment of a specialized center for the treatment and research of hepatobiliary diseases, subsequently winning 24 Science and Technology Progress awards, publishing 19 medical monographs, and authoring over 220 academic papers.

Wu Ting was filled with boundless admiration and respect for such a figure. This man represented one of his own life’s goals.

After Scholar Zeng finished speaking, it was Scholar Jiang Keji’s turn to take the stage.

Scholar Jiang’s speech was similarly strategic and far-reaching:

”...Promoting the development of clinical medicine guidelines can drive the advancement of the entire clinical discipline... Drafting clinical diagnostic and treatment guidelines is about providing recommendations that help doctors and patients make appropriate and reasonable decisions regarding specific clinical issues...”

”...Formulating the clinical questions is the crucial step in determining a guideline’s direction and developing its content. On one hand, it reflects the scope and type of the clinical practice guideline; on the other, it forms the basis for the subsequent steps of evidence retrieval, systematic evaluation, and the formulation of recommendations...”

”...The development of a single guideline often takes two to three years. Due to limitations in time, manpower, and resources, a guideline cannot solve every clinical problem. Therefore, we must prioritize, selecting the most important and urgent clinical issues in current medical practice to be addressed first. This is how we can maximize the guideline’s impact and significance in guiding clinical practice...”

”...For our current guideline selection process, we have primarily adopted a method of scoring based on expert experience. Experts will rate the importance of various clinical problems based on their personal experience...”

”And now, I will announce the final list of topics. After being scored by our conference’s expert panel, these are the topics that have been selected to be developed into the new clinical guidelines...”

As Scholar Jiang began to announce the list, Wu Ting took the opportunity to look up Jiang Keji’s profile. After reading it, he was pleasantly surprised.
