Chapter 372: Chapter 241: A Fierce Dragon Crosses the River (Part 3)

As the head director of a major department, and an emergency department at that, Director Duan’s comprehensive abilities were quite impressive. His skills in summarizing and outlining were also top-notch.

Listening to Director Guan’s report, he immediately began incorporating it into the proposal Wu Ting had given him earlier, starting to revise and write on the spot.

The soft scratch of a pen on paper echoed in the room... A bizarre scene briefly unfolded in the conference room.

In front of several leaders and his competitor, Director Duan was rewriting his speech right then and there.

Guan Bao almost laughed out loud. His disdain for Duan Xingping grew. ’His preparation is clearly shoddy. Who rewrites their speech on the spot?’

’Was he stunned by my plan?’

Guan Bao felt a bit smug as he thought, ’This isn’t some county hospital’s ER, and we aren’t junior doctors you can just brush aside.’

Sure enough, seeing Director Duan delay his report, Dean Xia’s expression showed a hint of displeasure.

Dean Duan was also getting irritated. ’This is a terrible performance.’ But he couldn’t say anything at the moment, so he just cleared his throat as a reminder:

”Director Duan, please share your thoughts. Dean Xia, Director Long, and Director Guan are all waiting.”

Duan Xingping gave a perfunctory reply, ”Mm, got it. Almost done.”

He scribbled and crossed out a few more things, then glanced over his work before finally setting down his pen. He then calmly began:

”My apologies to the deans, Director Long, and Director Guan for that display.”

”This is indeed my first new identity and role since leaving the emergency department. Just now, listening to Director Guan’s plan and ideas, I’ve benefited and learned a great deal. It gave me some immediate thoughts, so I made some last-minute adjustments to my speech.”

Duan Xingping’s demeanor was very humble.

Guan Bao nodded with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

”Let’s skip the pleasantries. This is just a small, internal meeting today. Let’s get straight to the point.”

Duan Xingping dropped the formalities as well and said directly:

”First, I believe the four points Director Guan Bao proposed form the core of my speech as well. I too have prepared some small ideas and approaches within these same four major frameworks.”

”Of course, what I am proposing are concrete measures, not as focused on concepts and frameworks as Director Guan’s.”

”This is also related to our respective past experiences—the difference between a university professor and a director on the clinical front lines.”

”Compared to Director Guan, who focuses more on theoretical plans and academic formalisms, my measures are more grounded and will solve problems more practically and effectively.”

Duan Xingping wouldn’t have dared to come teach at Fan City University Medical College if he were a pushover.

He had just slapped Guan Bao with the label of an armchair strategist—a perfect score on theory, but a failing grade on execution.

Hearing Duan Xingping’s counterattack, the expressions on the faces of Guan Bao, the two deans, and Director Long were quite a sight to behold.

Guan Bao frowned and sneered, ”Oh? Then let’s hear how ’grounded’ Director Duan’s plans are.”

Director Duan dropped all pretense of politeness. This was no time for modesty. He was, after all, forged in the fires of an ER as its head director, known for his decisive and swift action.

”Then I will address Director Guan’s four points one by one and present my solutions.”

Unlike Guan Bao, who was asking for money, Director Duan’s response could be summed up in four words: With money, it’s possible.

”First, regarding the problem of our Medical Experiment Center having an insufficient number of low-quality training classrooms. As it happens, I have discussed this matter with the chairman of the Fan City Wu’s Pharmaceutical Company.”

”According to President Wu, he is willing to partner with our experiment center to specifically fund and build an animal experiment base. Furthermore, President Wu is also willing to provide our center with all the experimental animals our faculty and students will need from now on!”

Everyone was stunned by this news from Director Duan.

The eyes of the two deans lit up with fervor. That was an animal experiment base built with cold, hard cash—a massive investment.

To dispel everyone’s doubts and suspicions, Director Duan stated directly:

”I have here the preliminary ’Investment Plan for the Medical College Animal Experiment Base Construction Project’ drafted by President Wu’s team. I was originally planning to bring this up at the college’s regular weekend meeting. I will submit it to the leadership for review after this.”

”As long as our college approves and agrees to this partnership plan, President Wu’s team will handle the rest of the work. President Wu has already personally briefed the relevant leaders at the Construction Bureau about the specific planning proposal. Everything from project approval to all subsequent steps has been greenlit.”

Listening to Director Duan, the two deans were still wondering who on earth this President Wu was, but an odd expression appeared on Professor Long’s face.

While Guan Bao was still confused, she asked, ”Director Duan, are you referring to Director Wu Ting?”

Professor Long now held Wu Ting in high regard, filled with respect, admiration, and gratitude.

Hearing that Wu Ting was willing to invest in her Medical Experiment Center, she couldn’t help but speculate about her own role in it.

’He knows I’m the former director of this center. Is he proposing this partnership as a way to win my support?’

Of course, Professor Long would support Wu Ting completely. For both professional and personal reasons, she had to back him wholeheartedly!

After Director Duan confirmed it was indeed Wu Ting, Professor Long’s expression cleared with understanding. ”Since it’s Director Wu, I have faith in his capabilities. Please continue, Director Duan.”

Professor Long’s reaction surprised everyone present.

Guan Bao, in particular, was already feeling his composure crack after hearing that Director Duan had secured funding for an entire animal experiment base. And now, even his biggest backer was supporting this President Wu, and seemed to know him well.
