Chapter 374: Chapter 242: Perfect! University Lecture Debut

A mere deputy director of emergency surgery from Fan City First Hospital was hardly worth mentioning in front of Director Cui, the director of the Emergency Department at Jin Province Tumor Hospital.

Director Duan’s plan was nothing more than a clumsy imitation, which finally allowed Guan Bao to regain a bit of his confidence and save face.

”Since Director Duan has also invited a relevant expert, why not have Director Wu and Director Cui conduct their courses at the same time? That would allow our students to witness the different styles and teaching philosophies of physicians from our city and from the major platforms of Jin Province.”

”We can all learn from each other’s strengths, and it provides an opportunity for mutual learning and exchange.”

Director Duan also agreed to Guan Bao’s high-sounding justification.

Director Duan was well aware of Wu Ting’s capabilities. When it came to emergency treatment for abdominal paracentesis and massive hemorrhage from liver rupture, Wu Ting was a master.

Guan Bao finally felt a little better after Duan Xingping went on to propose that teachers and students could later visit City First Hospital’s emergency department, laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment technology research center, and Hepatic Tumor Surgery department for observational learning.

’After all, Wu Ting is just a deputy director, not the head of the department. This so-called academic exchange probably won’t be that frequent or taken that seriously.’

’I can make the same request to Director Cui later, arranging a few visits for teachers and students to the emergency department at Jin Province Tumor Hospital.’

Soon, Director Duan’s report was finished.

On the surface, the part that most impressed the college leadership was his securing of the two training centers.

As for the rest, it was all within the scope of Guan Bao’s own plans.

In Guan Bao’s view, it wasn’t that his own abilities were lacking; it was just that Duan Xingping had gotten lucky and happened to know a wealthy industry magnate.

’At first glance, a deputy chief physician of emergency surgery at City First Hospital who also owns his own pharmaceutical company... all things considered, it’s not that impressive.’

Guan Bao observed that when the proposal for Wu Ting to come lecture was raised, the college leaders all tacitly agreed. ’Are they actually... enthusiastic and eager?’

Guan Bao sighed inwardly. ’As expected, even Professor Long isn’t immune to the power of money.’

Director Duan had deliberately chosen not to introduce Wu Ting’s other credentials. He intended to win over the students and the school solely with Wu Ting’s experience and clinical cases in pre-hospital emergency care.

Wu Ting himself didn’t care about his other achievements, nor did he need them. He was here to teach pre-hospital emergency care in his capacity as a deputy director of an emergency department. Pure and simple.

Professor Long was also aware of Wu Ting’s level and abilities. However, she only knew him to be formidable in Hepatic Tumor Surgery and hepatobiliary surgery; she really had no idea about his skills in emergency surgery and pre-hospital care.

But she was very much looking forward to it!

During Director Duan’s report, the other two deans also gradually recalled the recently prominent Wu Ting!

They were both astonished and pleasantly surprised that he was coming to lecture on pre-hospital emergency care, of all things.

Given Wu Ting’s fame in Fan City’s medical field, the two deans were naturally aware of him.

It was just that their knowledge was rather limited, confined to his work in the field of hepatitis B-related primary liver cancer. They were unclear about his capabilities in pre-hospital emergency care.

They were all old hands and didn’t point it out. After all, Wu Ting’s other credentials had no direct connection to teaching pre-hospital emergency care. ℯℯ𝑙.

However, the two deans were already considering the possibility of other collaborations with Wu Ting. ’Wouldn’t it be a gross underutilization of his talents, a complete mismatch, to have him only teach emergency medicine?’

Only one person was left in the dark: Guan Bao, who paid Wu Ting no mind at all.

In fact, after thinking it over later, Guan Bao came to a different conclusion.

’This Director Wu invested in two training centers... could it be he’s just trying to pave his way with money, to burnish his own credentials by becoming an external expert for the Fan City University Medical College Experimental Center?’

’These days, quite a few doctors use this method to bolster their professional résumés and increase their public profile.’

’With these titles, it’s easier to get promotions and further your career within the hospital later on.’

Guan Bao even had what he considered a reasonable suspicion: this Dr. Wu must have used his ”money power” and some connections to become a deputy director in the first place.

Guan Bao knew very well that Professor Long was strictly professional and couldn’t tolerate even a speck of dishonesty.

’When this Wu Ting actually comes to teach, if he turns out to be an incompetent hack or just a mediocre doctor, then Professor Long will, by extension, start to doubt and form a bad impression of the person who recommended and invited him—Duan Xingping.’

’Professor Long despises opportunists more than anyone.’

’Thinking this way, even though Duan Xingping secured two training centers, I might still have a chance after all.’

This time, Guan Bao was prepared to bet everything on Director Cui.

’I hope Director Cui completely crushes this deputy director from City First Hospital and shows him what a real top-tier provincial doctor looks like.’

Guan Bao was just waiting for Duan Xingping’s plan to blow up in his face.

When the meeting ended, Duan Xingping submitted Wu Ting’s various proposal documents to the two deans.

With the meeting’s conclusion, the first clash between Guan Bao and Duan Xingping was over.

Next up was the teaching competition between Wu Ting and Director Cui, which would, to a certain extent, determine the reputation and judgment of the two men who had recommended them.

「Jin Province Tumor Hospital, Emergency Department.」

Director Cui received a message from Guan Bao, learning about a class on pre-hospital emergency care scheduled for next Wednesday. Guan Bao had also specifically requested that he focus his lecture on pre-hospital care inside an ambulance, as well as hemostatic emergency procedures related to abdominal paracentesis and liver rupture.

Director Cui was in his fifties and basically no longer worked on the front lines.

His experience and seniority were undeniable, but he had given up on learning certain new technologies and concepts, the type to rest on his laurels and resist change.
