The Cheat Emperor of the Culinary World

Chapter 399: Chapter 398: Well Received

When Fu Yu was about to join the others for breakfast in the kitchen, his phone suddenly rang.

It was Liu Yuqing calling.

Fu Yu answered the phone, ”Hello?”

”Chef Fu, do you have a moment? Can you come over to the roasting area?”

Fu Yu hung up the phone, greeted Zhao Meng, and went to the roasting area.

Liu Yuqing was fiddling with a tripod and waved excitedly when she saw Fu Yu coming over, ”Chef Fu, take a look at this!”

Fu Yu curiously leaned over and saw a camera tripod set up next to his usual oven.

On the table beside was a very professional-looking small camera.

”Who set this up?”

Having become more familiar with Fu Yu recently, Liu Yuqing smiled and said, ”Didn’t you ask me to help record a cooking video last time? I watched it when I had some free time and found the phone recording wasn’t great. Many details were missed, and the quality wasn’t clear, so I brought a camera from home. Look, setting it up like this means you can operate it whenever you want to record. It’s convenient and easy.”

Fu Yu was a bit taken aback by the very high-end camera in front of him, ”Isn’t this... a bit much?”

Liu Yuqing expertly adjusted the tripod, mounted the camera, focused, and found the right angle.

After a bit of busy work, she smiled and said, ”There’s nothing much to it. The tripod is movable, and it won’t get in the way here. If you want to record, just turn it on; the settings are all ready.”

”I’m actually really interested in cooking, but I’m too busy at work right now to learn. Chef Fu, when you barbecue next time, record the whole process. I might not be good at other things, but I’m great at video editing. I’ll help split and merge them for you so that it’s easier when you review it later.”

Fu Yu looked at Liu Yuqing’s eager expression, feeling warm inside, and jokingly said, ”Are you planning to steal my skills?”

Liu Yuqing feigned anger and glared at Fu Yu, half-jokingly saying, ”If I wanted to learn to cook, I wouldn’t need to steal it!”

”Come over here, I’ll teach you how to use it.”

Fu Yu went over and carefully learned step by step.

Liu Yuqing said, ”Once the recording is done, I’ll take it back in the evening to edit, leaving meaningful cooking details behind. It’s also a chance for me to learn about the restaurant’s dishes.”

Fu Yu smiled sincerely and said, ”Thank you, Liu Yuqing.”

Liu Yuqing waved her hand casually, ”No need to thank me!”

After Liu Yuqing left, Fu Yu, intrigued, fiddled with the camera for a while, ensuring its placement wouldn’t obstruct anything, then returned to the kitchen.

The first person to notice the camera setup in the roasting area was Zhang Jinyu, and soon everyone else in the kitchen noticed too.

In response to everyone’s inquiries, Fu Yu only said that he wanted to record the cooking process for easier review later.

Thinking of Fu Yu’s rapidly improving culinary skills, everyone sighed inwardly, no wonder he’s so good; it turns out there’s unimaginable effort behind the talent.

While everyone else relaxed at the end of a hard day’s work, Fu Yu was still using his rest time to delve into culinary arts.

No wonder Fu Yu’s skills are amazing!

When Yao Shi unintentionally came over to the roasting area and saw the exquisite camera, he paused for a moment.

The brand logo on the camera was so distinctive that it was hard to ignore.

Yao Shi asked Fu Yu with interest, ”Did you buy this camera?”

Fu Yu hurriedly explained, ”I borrowed it from Liu Yuqing.”

Upon hearing this, Yao Shi gave Fu Yu a meaningful look and said, ”She’s quite generous, lending out a camera worth tens of thousands just like that.”

And it’s placed in the roasting area, enduring the daily smoke and soot.

Fu Yu: ”!”

So when Liu Yuqing came to the kitchen, Fu Yu quickly asked, ”Isn’t this camera pretty expensive?”

Liu Yuqing blinked her big eyes, ”Oh, the new model is quite expensive, but mine is an old version that’s off the market. I bought it second-hand online for less than two thousand.”

Fu Yu breathed a sigh of relief at that.

He thought, if she’s working as a cashier at Qianlima, how could she afford a camera worth tens of thousands in private?

Fu Yu: ”That’s good, I thought your camera was very expensive.”

Liu Yuqing giggled without speaking, quietly relieved that she chose the cheapest one to bring over. Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t believe it’s second-hand, right?

...

Thanks to Brother Hua.

The new seafood barbecue by Qianlima was well-received.

The order rate was high, though there were fewer dine-in customers; most were takeout orders.

Sun Qingning was a bit lacking in skill, and with the same ingredients and barbecue recipe, the taste he produced was always slightly off.

After receiving continuous customer feedback expressing dissatisfaction, the kitchen directly decided that all barbecue orders handled by Zhao Meng would be taken over by Fu Yu, while those from Gu Yunwu’s side would rotate between Yao Yihang and Zhang Jiaxin.

This was a big blow to Sun Qingning; being surpassed by Fu Yu and Yao Yihang made sense.

However, not measuring up to Zhang Jiaxin was a bit disheartening.

After all, when they first learned from Master Chen, everyone practiced and grilled together; no one had extra special lessons.

But no matter how dejected Sun Qingning felt, it didn’t change the fact that his skills were inferior.

Barbecue takeout orders were plentiful, and on Gu Yunwu’s side, at least there were two people who could take turns handling orders and grilling.

On Zhao Meng’s side, it was all on Fu Yu.

To outsiders, it was like Fu Yu was practically stationed in the roasting area.

With a steady stream of customers, Fu Yu’s days were very fulfilling.

From morning till night, he was busy instructing prep work and grilling.

What surprised and touched Fu Yu the most was Liu Yuqing.

This young woman really kept her word.

Every day after work, she would take the camera home; the next day, not only was it fully charged but also meticulously placed back on the tripod, with all functions set up, and she’d give Fu Yu the edited video.

When Fu Yu recorded, he often turned on the camera and then got too busy to pay attention to it.

One can imagine the workload of editing she had every night.

Seeing the increasingly visible dark circles under her eyes, it was impossible for Fu Yu not to feel moved.

Daily tasks continued to refresh.

After learning about sauces, the system successively released various other seasoning learning tasks.

A classroom on the culinary uses of common spices.

A classroom on learning classic braised meat spice formulas.

A classroom on the secret formula for blending unique sauces.

...

In the end, all sorts of bizarre learning methods emerged.

But after learning them, Fu Yu gradually realized these methods were summaries and culminations of various culinary concepts from different periods, very representative methods of seasoning use.
