The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”But the work attitude must not be compromised. Since we have received the task, we must do our best. How can we question this and that from the start?”

”Should we not do it if we haven’t done it before? This is criminal investigation work, and every clue might be related to a breakthrough in the case.”

As he spoke, he turned to Jiang An, his tone softening a lot: ”Mr. Jiang, I think your suggestion makes a lot of sense.”

”If we only use swabs to wipe, we can indeed only extract partial samples, and it’s easy to miss crucial evidence.”

”But if we completely cut open the cross-section for a comprehensive extraction, it’s like gathering all the micro traces together for analysis, which might achieve a 1+1=2 effect—making micro evidence originally difficult to detect become clear and distinguishable.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded slightly, his gaze calmly resting on the teacup in his hand, speaking softly: ”Hope the results aren’t too bad.”

”But to speak from the heart, this is ultimately just my preliminary idea.”

”From the principles of criminal investigation experiments, this possibility does exist, but it’s undeniable, the possibility of detection failure is equally significant.”

He slowly picked up the teacup and took a sip.

At this moment, the atmosphere in the laboratory had already quietly changed.

The policemen who were scolded by the leader earlier had all tightened their nerves and quickly dove back into their work.

He knew clearly that although their salaries wouldn’t be deducted, their year-end bonuses, recognition, and awards were all under the influence of Political Commissioner Li.

Moreover, everyone had worked hard for so long on the tests, only to get no results, and instead receive criticism, anyone would inevitably feel an unspeakable grievance.

However, he realized that Mr. Jiang’s work approach was indeed worthy of learning and emulation.

If similar cases occurred locally in the future, mastering this method might allow him to independently handle situations without falling into passivity.

Thinking of this, the previous annoyance in the policeman’s heart quietly dissipated somewhat.

Perhaps, the heart of a worker is just like this, fragile, yet easily finding an outlet through self-consolation.

He no longer hesitated and started to meticulously handle the equipment in his hand using the method suggested by Jiang An over the phone.

Time quietly passed in the silent experimental operation, every drop of reagent added, every adjustment of the instrument was extraordinarily focused and cautious.

Thirty minutes later, as he placed the extracted evidence sample into the PCR amplification instrument, an unexpected scene occurred.

A string of significant reaction signals quickly appeared on the instrument screen.

”Amazing... really too amazing!”

The policeman was stunned in place, almost unable to believe his eyes.

He hadn’t expected that just by changing the extraction method, using specific extractors for re-extraction, it would bring such obvious differences.

In an instant, excitement surged like a tide in his heart, and the previous dissatisfaction caused by the leader’s criticism had been completely washed away by this sudden success.

He immediately began to perform genotype analysis on the extracted genes, his fingers flying across the keyboard, his eyes focused and bright.

With almost no hesitation, he dialed Political Commissioner Li’s phone once again.

”Hello.” From the other end of the phone came Political Commissioner Li’s still flat voice, ”How’s it going, any results?”

”The comparison was successful, and the genotypes are completely consistent!”

”Ah? Are you sure?”

Political Commissioner Li’s voice finally revealed a slight fluctuation.

”Confirmed! The gene analysis results of the blood stains from the extracted evidence completely match the deceased’s genotype.”

Upon hearing this sentence, the three of them immediately beamed with joy, and the tense atmosphere of recent days seemed to be pierced by a ray of sunshine.

Jiang An and Director Hou exchanged glances without prior agreement, their mouths curling up with a long-lost smile.

Director Hou even unconsciously let out a long breath and raised his hand to adjust his glasses.

Political Commissioner Li also relaxed his brow, his tone much more gentle than usual: ”Good, well done.”

”It’s not hard work, Political Commissioner Li.”

”Earlier, we took a detour in our method. This time, luckily Mr. Jiang proposed a work suggestion with clear thoughts and strong operability, which proved very practical.”

”That’s good.”

Political Commissioner Li nodded, then turned to Director Hou, ”Record this method in detail and establish a standard process. If similar trace evidence is encountered in the future, deal with it according to this approach.”

”Alright, alright, rest assured, all the leaders, we will implement it accordingly.”

After hanging up the phone, Political Commissioner Li suddenly raised his hand and lightly patted the desktop.

”Director Hou, this time really thanks to you!”

”If it weren’t for your keen discovery of the issue and proactive proposal to improve the test method, we might indeed have let an important clue slip due to a technical oversight.”

As he spoke, he shifted his gaze to Jiang An, ”And Mr. Jiang, your practical experience provided a crucial supplement to the theory.”

Jiang An smiled slightly, his tone calm yet firm: ”Political Commissioner, you overpraise.”

”The net of heaven is vast, yet misses nothing; the truth has always been there, just needing someone to find the correct path.”

”Let’s go to the interrogation room, I guess Mr. Qin must be overwhelmed by now.”

After saying this, the three immediately got up and headed downstairs to the interrogation room.

Through the one-way glass, the tense atmosphere inside could be felt.

Mr. Qin was leaning forward at the table, confronting the suspect, and the voices of both parties came faintly through the monitoring equipment—even though the specific content was unclear, Mr. Qin’s gradually raising tone and frequently changing posture vividly exposed his long-lasting agitation.

Political Commissioner Li gently knocked on the door and then pushed it open.

Mr. Qin, who was leaning forward against the table, and the young policeman recording beside him simultaneously raised their heads, their faces filled with surprise, promptly standing up.

Political Commissioner Li gestured for them to sit down, his gaze sweeping over the suspect, speaking steadily:

”The results are out, the comparison was successful.”

Just one sentence made Mr. Qin instantly silent, as if an invisible force choked his throat.

Inside, waves surged, countless questions swirling in his mind: What exactly matched successfully?

Which key evidence locked in the suspect’s crime?

Just as he was about to blurt out his question, Political Commissioner Li suddenly raised his hand, heavily slapping the table in front of the suspect, making a dull sound.

”Stop pretending!”

Political Commissioner Li’s voice suddenly increased, ”Now I’ll ask you one last time, do you admit it?”

The suspect leaned lazily against the chair back, yawning: ”Admit what? I didn’t do anything, I just want to go home and sleep, I’m too tired, I’m dying of exhaustion.”

”Dying of exhaustion?”

Political Commissioner Li snorted coldly, leaning forward, ”Alright, let me tell you, do you remember nothing?”

”Your truck driving license is yours, the registration is also yours, is the vehicle yours?”

”It’s mine,” the suspect barely straightened his body, ”I still need to come for cargo tomorrow.”

”Alright, as long as it’s yours.”

Political Commissioner Li pulled out a detection report from the folder, heavily placing it on the table, ”So please explain why there are traces of blood on the front air intake grille of your vehicle? Furthermore, upon testing, this blood completely matches the deceased’s DNA, without any discrepancies!”

Upon hearing this, the man’s face turned slightly pale but he still pretended to be calm: ”What blood? What DNA? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”Let me tell you,”

Political Commissioner Li said one word at a time, each word like a heavy hammer striking the suspect’s heart.

”Your car collided with the deceased; during the collision, the deceased’s nasal cavity bled, resulting in blood splattering inside your vehicle’s air intake grille.”

”We have already matched it successfully, do you have anything to say?”

Upon hearing this, the opposite man immediately fell into silence.

His gaze swept back and forth over the faces of the three people in front of him, finally fixed firmly on Political Commissioner Li’s face, revealing a sliver of uncontrollable terror in his eyes.

”You might deny everything.”

”I’ll tell you that even if you deny everything now, we are confident we can use these trace evidence, combined with the impact marks on the deceased’s head and chest, to send you to court.”

Then, Director Hou said in a deep voice: ”If I’m not wrong, you should have braked at that time, so the collision wasn’t severe.”

”And you also saw the process of the deceased being hit, he was standing right in front of your vehicle, wasn’t he?”

This sentence was like the last straw, instantly making the person opposite collapse to the ground, his hands weakly hanging by his sides.

His mind uncontrollably picturing the shocking scene from that night...
