The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”This structure is actually very valuable in evidence extraction—it’s like a natural ’collector.’ If there were liquid evidence at the time—such as blood spatter—it would likely flow along the inner wall to the depths and settle there.”

”If we can cut it open entirely and directly wipe or cut samples from the inner wall, the sensitivity and success rate of tests might be much higher than the surface dust we just extracted.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou thoughtfully nodded and said in a deep voice, ”Your analysis is indeed very logical, with clear thinking and rigorous logic, providing us with important direction for our subsequent work.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Political Commissioner Li took out a hand saw from the toolbox beside him and carefully handed it over.

Jiang An steadily took the saw, took a deep breath, aimed the teeth at the extraction spot determined earlier—the hidden cavity mark within structural seams—and began carefully and cautiously cutting.

Indeed, about five minutes later, with a slight ”click” sound, a small square structural component was completely sawed off.

Jiang An gently picked up this seemingly inconspicuous yet crucial component, feeling an uncontrollable excitement inside.

He realized that this seemingly ordinary cavity mark was a feature in the overall design.

But at this moment, it might become the most hidden and intact natural vessel for preserving key evidence.

He carefully placed the component into a special evidence bag, sealed it, labeled it, and recorded each step meticulously.

Director Hou took the evidence bag, held it up to the light, and examined the sample inside sharply, ”This discovery is very crucial.”

”If bloodstains from the deceased can be detected from here, this case...”

He paused, a meaningful smile appeared on his lips, ”Haha, let’s not discuss anything else, at least we have every reason to firmly place the suspect in the defendant’s seat in court.”

Political Commissioner Li nodded slightly beside him and added steadily, ”Indeed.”

”From my years of site experience, the likelihood of extracting biological traces from such a hidden structure is quite high.”

”If bloodstains can be detected from here, it would truly overturn our previous understanding of the existence form of material traces.”

After finishing, he turned to look at everyone, speaking decisively: ”There’s no time to lose, let’s immediately send this sample back to the lab for priority testing.”

While they were tensely extracting evidence, the atmosphere in the criminal investigation team interrogation room was equally tense.

Mr. Qin and an officer were conducting a new round of interrogation on the suspect. It had reached the pivotal stage, with heavy pressure settled on both men’s brows.

However, the suspect across from them remained with a casual demeanor.

His eyelids drooped, seemingly on the verge of sleep, leaning against the chair back as he either mumbled noncommittally or dodged key points in response to Mr. Qin’s questions, or simply remained silent as if it were irrelevant.

At this moment, Mr. Qin looked sharply at the other party, his voice low and full of pressure: ”I advise you to be honest.”

”Sometimes, we’re not sending you immediately to court not because we lack evidence, but because we’re giving you a chance to come clean. Hope you make good use of it.”

”Haha, officer,”

The other party casually yawned, lazily leaning against the chair back.

”I don’t need the chance.”

”I just want to go home and sleep now, I’m really too sleepy.”

”If you don’t have any evidence, please let me out early.”

”Otherwise, it’s a waste of time for both you and me here.”

”Besides, I have a delivery scheduled for tomorrow, the agreed price is 7,000 bucks, will you compensate for the delay?”

Hearing this provocative statement, Mr. Qin raised his hand and slammed the table, a ”thud” echoed in the interrogation room. ”You want to go? It’s not that easy!”

”Not that easy?” The other party tilted his head slightly, revealing a sarcastic smile, ”I know the law, detention is only for 24 hours.”

”After 24 hours, I can swagger out.”

”Or else, I’ll accuse you of illegal detention!”

Watching the other party’s belligerent manner, Mr. Qin clenched his fist, his knuckles white.

He did have an urge to teach this arrogant guy a lesson, to vent the anger bottled up inside.

But he took a deep breath, keeping to the bottom line in his heart—any mishap here could have serious consequences.

As an experienced veteran detective, he knew he must handle cases according to the law, not let one moment’s impulse ruin the major event.

At this tense standoff moment, on the fifth floor of this public security building, Jiang An, Political Commissioner Li, and Director Hou were briskly moving through the hallway.

They were now on a nonstop pace to deliver the samples to the lab for examination.

The officer on duty at the laboratory entrance saw Political Commissioner Li and Director Hou arriving personally and hurriedly came to greet them, standing to salute: ”Commissioner, Director Hou, thank you for all your hard work! Bringing the sample in person so late at night.”

With a serious expression, Political Commissioner Li handed over a sealed evidence bag: ”Proceed immediately.”

”Inside are the automotive components extracted by Mr. Jiang, do focus on checking the seams and junctions for hidden bloodstains.”

”The test results are critical for the breakthrough in the case.”

The sleep-deprived technician across quickly perked up, receiving the evidence bag with both hands: ”Understood, Commissioner!”

”I’ll start testing immediately and prioritize this sample.”

But as he reached out for the transparent evidence bag, Jiang An reminded: ”This component’s cavity internal structure is complex, likely to retain trace evidence.”

”When sampling, pay special attention to the cavity’s inner wall for tiny bloodstains that might be hard to spot with the naked eye.”

”I recommend starting with a spiral swipe using damp cotton swabs, focusing on the junctions and recesses, followed by localized PCR amplification.”

”Given the time elapsed, the bloodstains might have degraded or attached impurities, so the extraction technique must be gentle and precise to avoid carrier contamination or DNA breakage.”

Before he finished speaking, the young technician across had widened his eyes, his tone betraying surprise: ”Mr. Jiang, how do you know so much about these technical details?”

”You sound even more professional than our specialized lab member!”

This statement caused Political Commissioner Li and Director Hou to both laugh simultaneously.

Political Commissioner Li reached out and patted the technician’s shoulder, his tone laced with pride: ”Little comrade, you might not know, right?”

”Mr. Jiang started from the forensic post years ago, he counts as a veteran in forensic pathology and evidence identification within our system.”

”He later transitioned to criminal investigation because he understands both technology and investigation, a rare composite talent.”

Director Hou also smiled and supplemented: ”Concerning the rigor of evidence extraction, you’d indeed have to consult him more often.”

The young technician’s face instantly showed an expression of admiration and excitement, blurting out: ”Wow! I never imagined!”

”Mr. Jiang, you’re practically my idol! For our technical colleagues to step into criminal investigation leadership is truly inspiring!”

Jiang An merely waved his hand modestly, his tone calm: ”Times are different now, ultimately it’s the era of you young people.”

”Our generation only has the experience advantage.”

”Don’t talk like that,” the technician quickly chimed in, ”you’re the youngest criminal investigation team leader in the province, the phrase ’young talent’ is tailor-made for you!”

Seeing this, Political Commissioner Li smiled and nudged the technician: ”Alright, don’t just focus on marveling.”

”Quickly handle the sample well, the test result determines the case direction, make sure it’s one hundred percent accurate.”

The young technician immediately stifled his smile, solemnly picking up the evidence bag, standing up to salute: ”Yes! Rest assured, Commissioner, I’ll perform standardized operations immediately and produce reliable results as soon as possible.”

He turned and walked into the laboratory, flipping on the bright operating light, putting on gloves, and began concentrating on processing the evidence.

Political Commissioner Li then turned to Director Hou and Jiang An beside him, his tone relaxed: ”We’ve been up all night, why don’t we go to my office for a short rest, drink some tea to refresh ourselves. We can plan the next steps when the results are out.”

Director Hou nodded with slightly fatigued brows: ”Sounds good, now we can only wait for the progress on the lab side.”

”The interrogation room over there... likely won’t have too much of a breakthrough for now.”

Political Commissioner Li sighed lightly, but his gaze remained firm: ”The suspect is indeed tight-lipped, but once this key evidence is in place, even the most stubborn line of defense will eventually be breached.”

Without further words, the three walked side by side out of the laboratory area, heading towards the office.
