The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”However, the modern car’s front design is not a complete flat plane.”

”Many models are equipped with grilles, and gaps of varying sizes will be formed between these grilles.”

”If, at the moment of impact, the victim’s nose happened to get caught in such a recess, the force would be dispersed over a broader area of the face.”

”When the nose sinks into the recess of the grille, the pressure on the bones is greatly reduced, perfectly explaining why the autopsy found no nasal bone fractures.”

”Makes sense!” Mr. Qin slammed his thigh suddenly and quickly gave a thumbs up.

”Mr. Jiang, your angle is indeed unique! We’ve been stuck in fixed thinking before.”

Meanwhile, Political Commissioner Li removed his reading glasses, gently wiped the lenses, and showed a comforting smile.

Director Hou crossed his hands in front of the table, leaning slightly forward, showing great interest.

Before Jiang An proposed this perspective, the task force’s investigation path had always revolved around two possibilities: either homicide or suicide.

Although accidental situations were considered, everyone subconsciously limited ”accident” to conventional scenarios like sudden illness or fall.

No one ever associated the traffic accident with this case occurring in the remote mountainous area.

The most anyone considered was that the victim might have died from a sudden heart attack or other illness on the mountain and was discovered by someone who then disposed of the body.

This unconventional association by Jiang An indeed greatly expanded the investigative dimensions of the case.

Suddenly, Mr. Qin seemed to have thought of something, and the corner of his mouth twitched involuntarily.

”If that’s the case, could it be that this case is simply not a homicide at all, but rather an accidental death caused by a traffic accident?”

In fact, not only Mr. Qin, but other investigators present also made the same connection.

After all, in real cases, after a traffic accident occurs, it is not uncommon for the perpetrator to flee to avoid responsibility, or even move and dispose of the victim’s body.

This behavior of concealing criminal evidence does align with the behavioral patterns of some perpetrators driven by panic psychology.

There was an immediate whisper in the laboratory, with everyone digesting this new investigative direction.

However, just as almost everyone present tended to agree with this hypothesis, Jiang An’s gaze once again fell on that pile of eerie white bones on the table.

After a moment, he lifted his head and said, in a steady and determined tone, ”If it was death caused by a traffic accident, this possibility is—almost negligible.”

”Oh? Negligible?”

Mr. Qin furrowed his brow and took a step forward, ”If it wasn’t death due to a traffic accident, then why would the perpetrator dispose of the body in such a remote wilderness? Logically, it doesn’t make sense.”

The others heard this and also showed confused expressions, their gazes moving back and forth between Jiang An and the white bones.

Amidst the low-voiced discussions, Jiang An continued his analysis unhurriedly: ”Mr. Qin, although what we see in front of us is just a skeleton, the marks on the bones resemble the last testimony left by the deceased.”

”Please focus on the locations of these fractures—they exhibit an unusual symmetry.”

”Generally speaking, impact injuries caused by traffic accidents are often accompanied by irregular, multi-angled fracture lines, and may even result in comminuted fractures.”

”This symmetrical rib fracture, although it causes severe chest pain and can even affect breathing, usually is not immediately fatal.”

”If a rib fractures, it could indeed puncture a lobe of the lung and cause pneumothorax.”

”But even if local pneumothorax occurs, as long as it’s not tension pneumothorax or severe bilateral damage, the process of dying is usually relatively slow.”

Jiang An’s gaze swept over each face present, his tone gradually growing heavier: ”Therefore, I believe this is not merely a simple accidental death in a traffic accident.”

”More likely, the initial collision only resulted in severe injury to the victim.”

”And after that, someone—perhaps realizing the severity of the situation, and frightened of bearing the responsibility—the perpetrator made an even more extreme choice.”

”He might have taken the victim away from the scene when the victim was not yet dead, abandoned them in the remote wilds, leaving them unable to be rescued and ultimately dying.”
