The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Despite the two seemingly standing on the brink of crisis, Mr. Qin’s excitement was still hard to suppress.

As a criminal investigator, it’s their duty to solve cases, but the opportunity to be involved in major cases is quite rare.

Especially in recent years, as the nationwide crackdown on organized crime and evil forces has been pushed deeper, public security has significantly improved, and the kind of horrific serial killings have almost vanished.

Even the serious cases of trafficking women and children that were once frequent have now greatly reduced, becoming rare.

Even at the level of the city public security bureau, if such major cases do occur, they are often directly taken over by provincial public security departments or even higher-level task forces for investigation.

Usually, city-level public security agencies do not possess the authority or resources to independently handle such cases.

Thinking of this, Qin Feng couldn’t hide his excitement, grabbing Jiang An’s hand, ”Mr. Jiang, this time we truly deserve recognition!”

”If we can use this clue to ’pull up the radish and bring out the mud,’ solving a cross-regional trafficking gang of women in one fell swoop, wouldn’t our achievement be enough to be directly promoted to deputy director?”

Hearing this, Jiang An’s mouth twitched slightly, responding cautiously, ”Mr. Qin, I really haven’t dared to think in that direction.”

”Moreover, all of the deputy directors at Jiangcheng City Public Security Bureau are still young and competent, their positions stable, how could one case easily lead to such a reassignment?”

Qin Feng was dismissive, patting him on the shoulder and laughing heartily, ”Hey, one should have ambitions!”

”Dreams are necessary, what if they come true?”

”If we don’t proactively think, how could the opportunity fall into our laps?”

Jiang An lowered his voice, teasingly reminding him, ”Aren’t you afraid these words will reach Political Commissioner Li’s ears, and he’ll say you’re ’rebelling’ and coveting his position?”

Qin Feng laughed aloud, waving his hand, ”Don’t worry, Political Commissioner Li isn’t that kind of person.”

”He’s eager for young people like us to grow up soon, so he can retire and enjoy tea and fishing in peace!”

After a light-hearted joke, Jiang An quickly restrained his smile, his expression becoming serious again.

He surveyed the surroundings—this was a desolate area rarely visited by people, distant birds occasionally singing, making the environment even more secluded and obscure.

”If we retreat now, they are very likely to use the opportunity to transfer stolen goods or even destroy evidence.”

”I think the urgent task is for us to continue lurking here to monitor, while quickly reporting the on-site situation to Mr. Li and Director Hou, requesting them to dispatch police support and devise a thorough reception plan to ensure the criminal gang is completely dismantled at once.”

This was the truth; just now, as they walked into the village, being from the public security bureau made them a clear target, and the other side likely already sensed something.

If they recklessly retreated now, it could not only alert the enemy but potentially lead the other side to quickly relocate and hide the relevant personnel, making it difficult to lock in the clues later on.

”I agree.”

Mr. Qin nodded gravely, immediately picking up his phone and quickly dialing Political Commissioner Li’s number.

”Hello, Political Commissioner Li, it’s me—the situation is somewhat complex.”

On the other end, Political Commissioner Li seemed occupied, and faint background sounds of Director Hou and other team members softly conversing could be heard.

He asked, noticeably surprised, ”What’s the situation? Where are you now?”

”Political Commissioner Li, we are now in a village deep in the mountains; this place... is very unusual.”

Mr. Qin spoke, pressing the speaker button, his voice deep and clear, ”Jiang An and I took a tour around the village, and found that the elderly make up the majority here, almost no young people can be seen, especially young women, not a single one.”

He paused, then added, ”More suspiciously, ever since we entered the village, it feels like every eye in the shadows is staring at us.”

”The villagers seem calm on the surface, but have a highly alert demeanor; every move seems like they’re monitoring us.”

”This atmosphere is certainly not what an ordinary mountain village should have.”

The phone line went silent for a moment, then Political Commissioner Li’s voice re-emerged with a now serious tone, ”Are you suspecting... the girl who escaped earlier might have run away from this village?”

”That’s exactly our speculation,” Mr. Qin and Jiang An shared a glance, continued speaking, ”we just analyzed it thoroughly; the village’s personnel structure is too abnormal, coupled with that omnipresent sense of vigilance, it’s hard not to think in that direction.”

”Alright, I understand.”

Political Commissioner Li decisively responded, ”For now, don’t act rashly; we’ll immediately organize personnel to conduct thorough investigations of this village and all related parties.”

”Once any suspicious clues are discovered, synchronize information at first opportunity, making sure the situation is completely clarified.”

Jiang An took the phone, his tone solemn as he spoke, ”Political Commissioner Li, based on the current information and our field observations, we strongly suspect that behind this village hides not just a simple young women disappearance case.”

”It is very likely involving a sizable criminal network of human trafficking, with a very serious nature.”

Upon hearing this, Political Commissioner Li was stunned, and Director Hou sitting opposite him also showed disbelief.

The two coincidentally exchanged a look, seeing shock and confusion in each other’s eyes.

This case was initially reported as merely a typical missing person case, how did it suddenly become linked to such a major criminal case involving human trafficking?
