The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An nodded, his hand movements still steady: ”You can basically understand it that way. If there had been significant displacement after the collision, the fracture lines wouldn’t align so perfectly.”

”At least at the moment of impact, the relationship that caused this degree of indentation should be exactly as our measurements show.”

As he spoke, he placed the steel ruler across the two longitudinal fracture lines: ”Now measuring the distance between the two main fracture lines...”

He carefully adjusted the position of the ruler, ensuring it was perpendicular to the fracture lines on both sides, ”27 centimeters, still a perfect match.”

Three key data points were presented in front of everyone—72 centimeters, 72 centimeters, 27 centimeters, forming an indisputable chain of evidence.

The atmosphere in the laboratory suddenly became lively, with excitement that couldn’t be suppressed on everyone’s faces.

It’s important to note that this cold case left very few pieces of physical evidence, and this White Bone was the final key to uncover the truth.

At this exhilarating moment, the phone in Political Commissioner Li’s pocket suddenly vibrated.

He took out his phone and glanced at the screen, then answered the call: ”Yes.”

A clear and firm voice came from the other end: ”Political Commissioner Li, the truck driver has been successfully apprehended and is being transported back to the station.”

”So soon?” Political Commissioner Li was slightly surprised, but his tone carried satisfaction.

”When we arrived, he was at home getting ready for bed, and there was no resistance during the entire arrest process.”

”Good,” Political Commissioner Li’s lips slightly curved up, ”Stay vigilant on the way, we’ll be waiting for you in the interrogation room.”

After hanging up, the smile on Political Commissioner Li’s face grew broader. He turned to Director Hou and Jiang An beside him, speaking with a touch of gratification and excitement: ”The suspect driver is on the way back, it’s unbelievable how smoothly and quickly this operation went!”

Director Hou showed a slightly surprised expression upon hearing this and replied with a smile: ”Oh, didn’t you know?”

”I heard Mr. Qin is likely to be promoted to deputy director soon, at such a crucial moment, naturally he’s putting all his effort into achieving something significant, haha.”

Jiang An nodded in agreement: ”Indeed, when people have prospects, their motivation is different. This efficiency is incredible!”

Forty minutes later, a police car slowly drove into the courtyard, the headlights pierced through the darkness, and finally came to a steady stop.

Mr. Qin was the first to get out of the car, followed by two officers escorting a man.

Political Commissioner Li quickly stepped forward, patting Mr. Qin on the shoulder with sincerity: ”Well done, this wasn’t easy.”

Mr. Qin nodded slightly, his expression calm: ”Just part of the job, nothing much.”

All eyes then turned to the man—he appeared to be in his thirties.

He looked sleepy, his hair a bit disheveled, wearing a somewhat worn-out jacket, exuding a dazed air as if not fully awake.

Mr. Qin quietly introduced to Political Commissioner Li and the others: ”This is Zhang Long, the owner and driver of the truck in question. He mainly runs transport locally, picking up odd hauling jobs.”

Political Commissioner Li listened, his gaze lingering on Zhang Long for a moment, and nodded, turning serious: ”Since the person is here, there’s no time to waste, immediately take him to the interrogation room and begin questioning.”

Mr. Qin responded and moved swiftly with the two officers, escorting Zhang Long into the interrogation room.

Political Commissioner Li, Director Hou, and Jiang An moved next door to the monitoring room, closely observing every move inside through the one-way glass.

The interrogation began, Mr. Qin settled at the table, his gaze sharp, speaking in a deep voice: ”Zhang Long, do you know why we brought you here at this late hour?”

Zhang Long looked confused, spreading his hands, his tone carrying some grievance and puzzlement: ”I really don’t know! I was sleeping soundly at home when you suddenly knocked on the door and brought me here without a word... What on earth happened? You should at least tell me.”

Mr. Qin did not answer directly, just quietly watched him, then slowly said after a few seconds: ”What happened?”

”Not what’s happening now, but the old case from a year ago.”

Hearing the mention of ”a year ago,” Zhang Long’s eyes visibly shifted, his lips unconsciously twitching. Although he quickly lowered his eyelids to hide the moment of panic, his fingers on the table edge involuntarily curled inwards.

He cleared his throat, feigning a relaxed tone: ”I have always had a poor memory, a year ago... so long ago, how could I remember clearly?”

”Can’t remember?”

Mr. Qin leaned forward, ”Then let me help you recall—during your long-distance transport, did you ever hit something unusual?”

”Or, was there ever a collision that made you feel something was off afterward?”

Zhang Long swallowed, answering: ”Driving on the road a lot, it’s inevitable to hit small birds or branches, that’s normal. But I can guarantee, never hit anything significant, let alone...”

”Never hit anything?”

Mr. Qin interrupted him, his voice suddenly lowered, ”Then how did I get a tip that you once hit someone while driving?”

”Someone?!” Zhang Long suddenly raised his head, his tone involuntarily rising, ”Impossible! Absolutely impossible!”

”I’ve been driving for so many years, if I really hit someone, how could I not know?”

”If there really was such an incident, I would definitely stop immediately, rescue, and send for medical help! I’m not an irresponsible person!”

”Not responsible?”

Mr. Qin sneered coldly, ”Then let us help you recover those memories.”
