The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Upon hearing Jiang An’s clear and orderly analysis, the attendees involuntarily shivered.

The same eerie White Bone could unravel such detailed causes of death and complete process of dying.

This is absolutely a level of insight that ordinary criminal investigators cannot reach.

More accurately, in the previous rounds of case analysis meetings, they remained trapped in the binary opposition of ”homicide” and ”accident.”

No one had shifted their thinking towards the seemingly ordinary direction of ”traffic accident.”

At this moment, there was pin-drop silence in the laboratory.

Many exchanged looks with one another, sharing their astonishment and sudden realization through their eyes.

Even though the members of the task force involved in the initial investigation were emotionally unwilling to accept this inference.

This meant their previous work might have gone astray.

But rationality told them that Jiang An’s logic was seamless, and they couldn’t find any point of strong rebuttal.

The key to solving cases is bold reasoning, but also careful verification.

If even the direction for verification is lost, where do we start to prove or disprove?

In the heavy silence, Mr. Qin pondered for a moment, then turned and said solemnly, ”If we continue along this line of reasoning, can we conclude that this is an accidental death caused by a traffic accident?”

Before he finished speaking, Political Commissioner Li interjected, ”In my view, this has already surpassed the category of ordinary traffic accident deaths.”

”The perpetrator left the injured in the wilderness to fend for themselves, which likely constitutes indirect intentional homicide under the law.”

He paused briefly and clearly uttered four words, ”that is, ’indirect intention’.”

”Indirect intention?”

A few young officers at the side almost simultaneously turned their heads, their faces full of confusion, ”How can this be considered indirect intention?”

Political Commissioner Li nodded slightly, with a subtle smile of contemplation on his lips.

”It’s a good question.”

”Back in university, the criminal law professor passionately dissected this concept in class.”

”The so-called ’indirect intention’ refers to a situation where a person knows their actions may cause socially harmful consequences but intentionally allows them to happen.”

”Specifically in this case—the driver abandoned the victim, who had lost the ability to self-rescue, in the wilderness.”

”Consider the implication of the wilderness? It’s extreme isolation and total disconnection from all aid channels.”

After a brief pause, he continued, ”Considering Mr. Qin’s analysis earlier, the victim was in a specific physiological state after being injured, extremely vulnerable, and could not possibly achieve self-rescue.”

”And the perpetrator, as the direct responsible party causing the victim’s dire situation, was fully aware of the consequences of abandoning them—that is, a dramatically increased chance of death.”

”They had the ability to assist but chose to turn away.”

”This mindset of ’knowing it may happen but not preventing or assisting’ is precisely what the law identifies as ’indifference.’

”Since indifference exists and ultimately leads to the death consequence, it completely meets the criteria of indirect intentional homicide.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou nodded slightly, showing approval, and slowly said, ”Political Commissioner Li made a very valid point.”

”Although I do not come from a legal background, his in-depth yet accessible analysis was indeed clear and progressive, allowing me to far better understand the issue and fully grasp the key points.”

Political Commissioner Li heard this and humbly smiled and waved, saying, ”Director Hou, you flatter me.”

”To be honest, I was a latecomer to this field, discussing these matters before you really is showing off my limited skills.”

”Back when I was furthering my studies at the University of Political Science and Law, the professor who taught criminal law explained the concept of ’indirect intention’ in a truly remarkable manner.”

”What I’ve said just now is but a small insight, far from the depth and breadth of the professor’s explanations back then.”

As he spoke, he turned to look at Jiang An seated to the side, sincerely continuing, ”Anyway, this view proposed by Mr. Jiang has indeed broadened our horizons.”

”A single White Bone could unearth so much information and paths, requiring not only solid professional grounding but also sharp insight.”

”I believe that our city bureau’s forensic team and even all forensic colleagues in the city must continue to delve deeply and advance professionally.”

”This ability to see the truth from the minutiae is not a day’s work and certainly beyond the reach of ordinary people.”

Director Hou nodded in agreement and said, ”Absolutely.”

”Through the process of solving this case, we have deepened our understanding of the crucial support role that forensic technology plays in case-solving.”

”Forensic science provides not only scientific evidence but also critical basis for case characterization.”

”I will go back and suggest to the chief to host more professional legal and technical training classes in the future, focusing on the province’s forensic system to systematically enhance everyone’s abilities in legal knowledge, technical application, and comprehensive analysis, striving for every forensic expert to make leaps and improvements on their existing foundation.”

”Ah, that would be wonderful!”

Mr. Qin smiled and took over, ”If there truly is such a training opportunity, I dare say none of our city’s forensic experts would miss out; all would participate with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn!”

”Naturally.”

Director Hou turned to look at Jiang An, ”If we are to indeed host a forensic training class, the first lesson must be taught by Jiang An.”
