The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Upon hearing this, the female teacher’s tense shoulders visibly relaxed, and she gently exhaled a breath.

”So that’s how it is. May I ask which student it is?”

Mr. Qin replied, ”We are not entirely sure of the specific name yet, but the information we have is that the student graduated from here four years ago, and the name contains the character ’Juan’.”

”Graduated four years ago... name contains ’Juan’...”

The female teacher repeated the key information as she neatly took out her keys.

With a ”click,” she opened the office door.

She set down her handbag, walked to the computer, turned it on, entered the student information query system, and typed ”Juan” in the name search bar.

The screen quickly displayed two matching records.

One of the names was ”Deng Juan,” showing female gender, twenty-four years old at graduation.

Mr. Qin stepped forward, his gaze focused on the screen, and asked, ”Does she have contact information?”

The female teacher moved the mouse, clicked on the detailed information page, and replied, ”There is registered contact information, but I must remind you, this was filled out when she was in school four years ago, so it may have been changed and may not be reachable.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Qin nodded slightly and said, ”No problem, I’ll try to contact her.”

He pressed the number on his phone and held the receiver to his ear.

But what came through the other end was a cold system prompt: ”Sorry, the number you are dialing is temporarily unavailable...”

He frowned lightly and turned to the teacher beside him, asking, ”May I have her parents’ contact information?”

The teacher responded immediately, ”Yes, please hold on, I’ll check right away.”

She quickly retrieved Deng Juan’s parents’ phone number.

Mr. Qin dialed the number again.

This time, after a brief waiting tone, a slightly hoarse male voice answered the phone, ”Hello?”

Mr. Qin immediately identified himself: ”Hello, we are from the city criminal investigation team. Are you Deng Juan’s father?”

The man’s voice on the other end suddenly became tense, repeatedly asking, ”It’s me! Officer, have you found my daughter?”

”Is there any news?”

Hearing such eager inquiries, Mr. Qin choked for a moment, not knowing how to begin.

He remained silent for a moment, then chose to speak in the most gentle tone, ”We are investigating a case, and the current situation... may not meet your expectations.”

The man’s voice suddenly rose, ”What situation? Just tell me! What happened to my daughter?”

Mr. Qin took a deep breath and said in a somber tone, ”We have found a skeletonized body in the suburbs, and we need to verify its identity.”

”If it’s convenient, we hope to collect your blood sample for a DNA comparison to confirm whether it relates to Deng Juan.”

Before he finished speaking, uncontrollable crying erupted on the other end of the phone.

First, there was the man’s intermittent sobbing, then it was mixed with the heart-wrenching wailing of a woman.

The cries echoed through the office via the receiver, and Mr. Qin’s grip on the overheating phone caused his knuckles to whiten slightly.

Only when the crying gradually subsided, turning into restrained sobs, did Mr. Qin speak again, ”Please take care of your health. This is just a preliminary investigation, and the final result must await DNA identification.”

”Perhaps... perhaps we are mistaken, and I hope we can rule out this possibility in the end.”

He paused and added, ”We will complete the testing as quickly as possible and inform you immediately of the results.”

After hearing these words, the two elderly people on the other end of the line seemed to relax slightly.

Though the road ahead remained uncertain, at least there was a glimmer of hope at this moment.

The elderly man’s hand holding the receiver trembled slightly, his voice choked, ”We are at home, ready to cooperate with the blood collection at any time.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Qin said, ”May I ask if your current address matches your household registration address?”

”It’s the same,” the elderly man replied quickly, fearing to waste time, ”It’s in Qidong City Dongchuan County.”

”Alright, we’ll head over to collect the blood sample right away.”

After hanging up the phone, he immediately gathered his team, and they drove towards Qidong City Dongchuan County.

Meanwhile, in the small meeting room on the third floor of the city criminal investigation team, Director Hou, Political Commissioner Li, and Jiang An had just returned after breakfast.

The major case cracked last night had been handed over to specialists for evidence preservation and litigation preparation, the personnel to be repatriated were having their procedures handled, and the victims who needed assistance were being properly accommodated.

At this moment, their main concern was the progress of the Deng Juan case.

Jiang An took a sip from the teacup on the table, the tea’s delicate aroma lingering in his mouth.

He turned to Political Commissioner Li and asked, ”Political Commissioner Li, how is the investigation of the repair records of the vehicle involved in the case going?”

Political Commissioner Li put down the document in his hand, looking serious: ”Currently, we have dispatched five groups to conduct a sweep of all repair shops within a 10 to 20-kilometer radius around the crime scene as the center. But as you know, this case has a long time span, and many small repair shops are family-run, with incomplete or even non-existent records.”

”Officers are conducting door-to-door verifications, but no valuable feedback has been received so far.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou nodded, his fingertips lightly tapping on the table, ”This lead is very crucial.”

”Although we have confirmed that Deng Juan was trafficked, the identity of the real culprit remains unknown.”

”Especially this case—” he paused, his tone becoming more serious, ”From the existing evidence, this is definitely not a simple traffic accident.”

”We must quickly find the whereabouts of that vehicle to uncover the truth behind the case.”

Political Commissioner Li nodded slightly, his gaze growing deep.

He pondered for a moment, slowly speaking, ”I understand this matter, but time indeed has blurred the clues.”

”However, rest assured, we will not give up any possibility, and we will do our utmost to pursue the investigation.”

Before he finished speaking, the phone on the table suddenly vibrated, the screen flashing the words ”Team Leader Li Biao.”

Political Commissioner Li quickly pressed the answer button and brought the phone to his ear, ”Is there any new discovery?”

On the other end of the line came Li Biao’s somewhat urgent voice, ”Political Commissioner Li, we’ve had a breakthrough.”

”About 7.5 kilometers from the scene of the crime, we found a repair shop.”

”According to the owner, a truck driver did come to replace the brake pads four years ago.”

Political Commissioner Li frowned slightly, a trace of doubt in his tone, ”Can he remember such details from four years ago so clearly?”

Li Biao immediately explained, ”Yes, because the repair shop had just opened then, and the equipment and tools were rather rudimentary.”

”The brake pads had a special model, and the owner even had to make a special trip to the city, sourcing them at a high price from peers.”

”He went through a lot of trouble to make this deal, so he has a particularly clear impression of it.”

Political Commissioner Li continued to ask, ”Did he happen to notice the appearance of the driver?”

Li Biao’s voice carried a trace of regret, ”No, he didn’t.”

”After all, too much time has passed, and the repair shop didn’t have surveillance back then, so there are no video records.”

”But the owner is very sure that it was a local license plate truck, and the cargo hold seemed to be filled with vegetables and fruits.”

”Vegetables and fruits?”

After pausing for a while, Political Commissioner Li said in a deep voice, ”We seem to have a fruit and vegetable wholesale market here.”

Li Biao continued, ”Political Commissioner Li, as the next step, we plan to search all trucks in that area and report any progress to you immediately.”
