The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An hurriedly leaned forward and asked, ”Is it the old shepherd we met at the village entrance today?”

”Yes, it’s him.”

The man nodded affirmatively, ”He often tends sheep at the village entrance, but it’s actually to keep watch for any strangers entering the village.”

Jiang An’s mind immediately conjured up the image of that old man — gray hair, a wrinkled face, and seemingly kind eyes. Who would have thought he harbored such malicious intentions?

Thinking back now, the subtle vigilance he noticed during their first encounter was not coincidental after all.

”Damn it!”

Mr. Qin slapped his thigh fiercely, ”The main culprit was right under our noses, and we let him slip through our fingers!”

Political Commissioner Li gently pressed on his shoulder, his gaze firm: ”Now is not the time for self-reproach.”

”Fortunately, our operation hasn’t startled the snake, and we still have a chance to bring him to justice.”

At this moment, Director Hou stepped forward with sharp eyes and immediately pressed, ”During our interception earlier, did you seize the chance to send messages or alerts to the village chief or other accomplices?”

Lao San, hearing this, immediately shook his head vigorously, urgently defending himself, ”No, absolutely not!”

”Since I’ve decided to cooperate with the police and strive for meritorious service, I would never secretly tip anyone off.”

”Not only did I not send messages myself, but I also specifically instructed the other three not to leak any information. We told them everything was normal on the road and not to mention anything about the police!”

Political Commissioner Li nodded slightly on the side, his voice steady yet affirming, ”You’re doing the right thing. Your attitude is very correct.”

”As long as you actively cooperate with us to solve the case and help us dismantle this criminal gang, we will accurately record your meritorious deeds, and when it comes to sentencing, we will strive for leniency for you, so you may return to society and reunite with your family as soon as possible.”

Lao San, upon hearing this, was so excited that he repeatedly cupped his hands, ”Thank you, officers, thank you so much!”

”To be honest, I’m not inherently a bad person. It’s just that years of gambling have ruined me, leaving me heavily in debt, and I had no choice but to go astray...”

”I still have a wife and children at home, as well as elderly parents. I really want to start anew. Please give me a chance to reform!”

Then Director Hou responded in a calm tone, ”Since you have this determination, we will certainly give you the opportunity.”

”But what happens next will depend on your specific performance.”

After speaking, he turned and glanced behind him, signaling Jiang An, Political Commissioner Li, and Mr. Qin to move a few meters away with him to start an urgent discussion in a lowered voice.

Director Hou first analyzed the current situation: ”Although our large police force is in position, if we drive police cars directly into the village with sirens blaring, it’ll cause too much commotion.”

”I fear there might be unseen sentries in the village, possibly even lookouts stationed at all entrances.”

No sooner had he spoken, Jiang An chimed in to add, ”Director Hou is right. During the day, when Mr. Qin and I were scouting the village, we noticed that this village not only had multiple secret sentinels but also installed cameras at key locations, and the surveillance is tight.”

”If we drive the police cars directly in now, they’ll definitely notice in advance.”

”The village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, and the terrain is complex. If they scatter and flee into the mountains, it’ll be difficult to capture them.”

As he spoke, he pointed to a container truck parked beside them and continued, ”I suggest we use this vehicle as cover.”

”This truck is regularly used by them for transport, familiar with local routes, and not likely to raise suspicion.”

”We can drive in quietly, reducing our target, and it’s easier to avoid those cameras, catching them off guard.”

Political Commissioner Li immediately nodded repeatedly, a hint of appreciation flashing in his eyes, and said solemnly, ”This idea is indeed ingenious!”

”We can gather all participating officers into this container, and have some officers escort Lao San, avoiding surveillance as much as possible along the way, and go straight to the core area of the Qingguang Gang, striving to capture their main members in one fell swoop.”

”Alright, it’s decided then!”

After a brief pause, he turned his gaze to Director Hou and Jiang An, his tone becoming serious as he continued, ”However, the risks in this operation cannot be underestimated.”

”I suggest that Director Hou and Jiang An stay on the periphery, responsible for support and communication.”

”After all, this is the responsibility of our city’s public security bureau. As the assisting unit, there’s no need for you to also risk your lives.”

Hearing this, Director Hou gently waved his hand, responding firmly, ”Political Commissioner Li, there’s no need for courtesy. We are comrades in arms, fighting side by side, and there’s no distinction between us.”

”Whether I am in the provincial department or Jiang An is working in other cities, in the criminal police line, we share life-and-death comradeship.”

”At such a critical moment for apprehension, how could we be absent?”

He turned to Jiang An, ”Mr. Jiang’s meticulous nature and excellent observational skills mean that with his involvement, the success rate of our operation will surely increase.”

Political Commissioner Li’s mouth twitched slightly, his tone carrying a hint of apprehension, ”I understand both of your feelings, but you are, after all, honored guests sent by the superior unit to guide and assist us.”

”From the start of the case until now, you have assisted us greatly, and to have you venture into danger again would make me, as Political Commissioner, very uneasy.”

Just as he finished speaking, Mr. Qin took a few steps forward and gently patted Jiang An on the shoulder.

”Mr. Jiang, we’re all people who live on the edge, with no such concerns.”

”Besides, neither of us has a family, so we have no such worries.”

”Don’t you agree?”

Jiang An nodded solemnly, ”In this line of work, we’re always prepared to face danger.”

”Our heads aren’t on our belts, this bit of risk is nothing.”

”Political Commissioner Li, you don’t need to be overly concerned. Since we’re here, we hope to participate fully.”

”In case of any unexpected situations, we can also fight side by side, striving to expand the results and completely dismantle this criminal gang.”

After a long pause, Political Commissioner Li finally nodded slowly, his tone filled with gratitude and resolution, ”Alright, since everyone is so determined, for the sake of quickly solving the case, I won’t insist anymore.”

”This operation, I’ll leave it to all of you!”

Director Hou gazed at the distant village and slowly said, ”If we can wipe out this criminal gang tonight, this case will surely become an important milestone in our law enforcement history.”

”Initially, we were only investigating an ordinary murder case, but who could have imagined it would lead us to uncover this huge human trafficking network behind it.”

”Fate has allowed us the opportunity to unveil this chain of evil hidden in the darkness.”

He paused, his tone growing more determined, ”Tonight, we must achieve a brilliant victory, give justice to the victims, and peace to society.”

Having said that, he turned to face the ready team, speaking forcefully, ”Let’s go, comrades.”

”Entering the tiger’s den to catch the cub.”

”Tonight, let’s directly attack the dragon’s lair and uproot this criminal nest!”

Under the leadership of Political Commissioner Li and Director Hou, more than thirty fully armed officers quickly and orderly boarded the container truck.

Lao San was placed in the driver’s cabin, his hands cuffed.

He not only had to guide the convoy along the route but also help avoid surveillance cameras along the way and find Wu Guang, the village chief’s, hiding place.

Ten minutes later, the container truck arrived at the village entrance.

Mr. Qin tightly gripped the steering wheel, his sharp gaze scanning the surroundings.

Sure enough, at the bend ahead, a conspicuous red camera was slowly rotating.

He immediately lowered his voice to remind, ”There’s surveillance ahead, follow the plan.”

After successfully passing the first surveillance point, the convoy continued deeper into the village.

As night fell, lights began to illuminate the households, presenting a tranquil and harmonious rural scene from afar.

If it weren’t for the solid evidence we have, it would be hard to imagine that beneath this seemingly peaceful facade lies such horrifying criminal activity.

After another 15 minutes of driving, Lao San suddenly spoke, ”The house with the brightest lights up ahead is Wu Guang’s home.”

As soon as he said this, Political Commissioner Li immediately picked up the walkie-talkie and issued an order, ”Attention everyone, we’re about to reach the target location.”

”I repeat, target location is imminent.”

”All teams prepare for action. Once the vehicles are stable, move in immediately!”
