The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Meanwhile, behind the closed doors of the interrogation room.

Mr. Qin had been working continuously for several hours, with fine beads of sweat forming on his forehead, completely overwhelmed with work.

Yet, the suspect sitting across from him was as stubborn as a stinking, hard rock—no, even more obstinate than a stone soaked in the toilet for years.

No matter what questioning technique was used, whatever questions were asked, the suspect always had three responses: ”I don’t know,” ”I’m not sure,” ”I can’t say.”

In the end, the person didn’t even bother to lift an eyelid, treating the interrogation room as a resting place.

According to the rules, since the police started the implementation of standardized law enforcement, all interrogation rooms were equipped with HD cameras, ensuring complete audio and visual recordings.

At this moment, the camera in the corner was glowing with a conspicuous red light, like an eye that never blinks, watching everything inside the room.

Mr. Qin instinctively looked around, and the unconventional interrogation methods flashing through his mind were instantly curbed by rationality.

He took a deep breath, turned, and patted the shoulder of the young officer beside him: ”Let’s go, join me for some fresh air.”

”I need a smoke, remember, we absolutely must not violate principles here.”

”Understood.”

The young officer rubbed his bloodshot eyes, suppressing the boiling anger within.

Having graduated from the police academy less than two years ago, he maintained a pure belief in professional ethics: ”Rest assured, Captain, even if he doesn’t say a word, we can’t break laws or regulations because of this case. The net of justice is vast, and eventually, we will find the evidence.”

Mr. Qin nodded approvingly and walked out of the interrogation room.

At the end of the corridor, he took out a battered pack of cigarettes, discovering it was so crumpled that only one lone cigarette remained inside.

For these veteran detectives, cigarettes were indeed their most loyal companions, understanding their anxiety and fatigue better than their spouses during countless sleepless nights.

He lit the cigarette, took a deep drag, letting the nicotine circulate through his lungs, his mind rapidly considering ways to break through.

This old case was like a fog, where was the critical evidence hidden?

With time passing by and traces at the scene long vanished, if the suspect continued to keep silent, how could he be brought to justice?

With over twenty years of detective intuition, Mr. Qin could almost confirm that the man in front of him was the real culprit. But a society governed by the rule of law requires evidence; without a solid evidence chain, no matter how strong the intuition, it cannot bring the criminal to trial.

Meanwhile, inside Political Commissioner Li’s office at the city police department, three others were exhausting their minds over this case.

The hands of the clock on the wall slowly moved toward midnight, the office filled with smoke, and the tea had been changed multiple times.

Suddenly, Political Commissioner Li’s phone on the desk rang.

Seeing the familiar internal number displayed, a hint of excitement flickered in Political Commissioner Li’s eyes. He immediately put down the teacup, speaking with anticipation: ”News so soon? It seems the case is making headway.”

Then, he deftly slid his finger across the phone screen, answered the call, and pressed the speaker button.

At this moment, all three of them focused their attention on the call’s result, not missing any bit of information.

From the other end came the somewhat weary voice of a colleague from the technical department: ”Political Commissioner Li, reporting to you, we conducted a comprehensive examination on the dust samples extracted, but found no traces of blood.”

”Moreover, the samples had too many impurities and severe interference, preventing many tests from proceeding normally.”

”So what’s the conclusion?”

”Is there blood, or not?” Political Commissioner Li asked with a serious tone.

”Confirmed no blood traces.”

”What about the equipment itself? Did you examine it carefully?”

”We inspected the equipment carefully, but... something still seems off.”

”Oh? What’s off?” Political Commissioner Li leaned forward slightly.

”We detected minute biological molecules on the equipment’s inner wall, but the amount is really too little, almost at the detection limit.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An immediately asked: ”How did you handle the equipment at that time?”

”We just used cotton swabs to repeatedly wipe the inner walls of the equipment, then examined the swabs.”

Hearing this, Jiang An nodded thoughtfully, firmly stating: ”This method might not be sufficient.”

”I suggest directly cutting open the equipment’s cross-section, then using cell-specific extractors to target the minimal traces on the surface, finally enhancing test sensitivity with amplification techniques.”

”This will maximize the acquisition of effective biological information.”

”But... we have never adopted this method for testing.” The voice on the phone sounded hesitant.

Hearing this, Political Commissioner Li’s temper flared, ”Never tried it, then start trying now!”

”Mr. Jiang is an expert in criminal investigation and examination. Since he proposed this plan, just follow what he says!”

”Yes, yes, Political Commissioner Li, I’ll arrange it right away.” The voice on the phone instantly turned tense.

Seeing Political Commissioner Li’s excitement, Director Hou gently patted his shoulder, calming him: ”Mr. Li, take it easy.”

”It’s tough for young people working overnight, we should be more understanding.”

After hanging up, Political Commissioner Li continuously sighed: ”I understand, of course, I am aware of their hardships.”
