The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Thirty minutes later, two pitch-black special police cars sped over.

The headlights projected two sharp beams of light, illuminating the road ahead, originally concealed in darkness, in a pale white.

Political Commissioner Li and Director Hou, with solemn expressions, separated the four young people squatting on the ground to a certain distance and interrogated them individually.

There was no audio or video equipment here, no recording desk, only the flickering halos provided by vehicles in the distance and supplemented by the beams of flashlights.

However, if they did not strike while the iron was hot and pry more key information from the freshly stopped informants to expand their victory.

Then, when dawn came and the wind leaked, trying to catch them all would be as difficult as climbing to heaven.

At this moment, Director Hou’s gaze, sharp as an eagle’s, was firmly fixed on the man in front of him nicknamed ”Lao San.”

”In your village, besides them, are there other women who have been trafficked?”

Lao San instinctively raised his head, his eyes flickering, his lips trembling slightly, seemingly engaged in a fierce mental struggle.

This brief hesitation lasted only two or three seconds before he dejectedly lowered his eyelids and answered hoarsely, ”Officer, I... I’m just the driver, responsible for transportation. Once I deliver people to the place, it’s over.”

”The specifics of the village situation are... are arranged by the village chief. I really don’t know much as a small character.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Political Commissioner Li stepped forward abruptly, raised his hand, and lightly smacked Lao San’s back of the head, making a crisp ”slap” sound.

”Unclear?”

Political Commissioner Li’s voice suddenly rose, ”Playing dumb with me here? I tell you!”

”When you chose to get out of the car voluntarily and squat on the ground with your hands on your head, your actions already constituted surrender!”

”This means one foot has already stepped into the threshold of leniency! Now is your only chance to strive for merit and redemption!”

”Say everything you know, who the mastermind is, and where the hideouts are. Based on your performance, we can apply for leniency for you at the court!”

He paused, his gaze like lightning sweeping over the other three squatting suspects not far away. The three immediately shrank their necks in fear.

Political Commissioner Li turned back, lowered his voice, but his words hit like a hammer on Lao San’s heart: ”See clearly!”

”Those three, their surrender was slower than yours!”

”By the rules, your starting point is higher than theirs! But!” He stressed, ”If you bite your tongue now and try to muddle through, while any one of them provides core information first... by then, even if you want to speak, there won’t be that opportunity! The spot for leniency won’t wait for you!”

These words, which knocked and explained the severity, like a heavy hammer, completely shattered the last hope in Lao San’s heart.

After a moment of silence, he finally let out a long, trembling sigh and said hoarsely, ”Fine, fine... I’ll talk, I’ll talk... the boss behind this batch... no, these people, is our village chief.”

”This time... there were only these six, all on this vehicle.”

”Only these six?”

Political Commissioner Li stared intently into his eyes, ”Are you sure there are no other trafficked women in the village?”

”There... There are four more,” Lao San swallowed hard, ”They were sent over in succession over the past few years, quite some time ago... they’ve... they’ve already settled down in our village.”

Political Commissioner Li’s pupils slightly contracted, ”Settled down? You mean they’ve been sold as wives to bachelors in your village?”

”Mm...” Lao San nodded heavily, acknowledging this fact.

”Then aside from these recent six and the four who have already ’settled down,’” Political Commissioner Li’s questions fired like a machine gun, ”Over the years, how many times have you transported trafficked women like this? Altogether, how many people were involved?”

Upon hearing this, Lao San’s face showed genuine bewilderment and distress. He shook his head vigorously, almost with a crying tone.

”Officer, this... this I really can’t remember clearly!”

”Every year... seems like a few are brought over, but the time gaps are too long. Some I handled, some I didn’t. It’s scattered... how can I keep track of the specific numbers? I estimate... I estimate...”

At this moment, Mr. Qin impatiently asked, ”Don’t beat around the bush, just give me an approximate number!”

Just now, Political Commissioner Li personally promised to promote him to deputy director. At this moment, he was full of vigor, eager to immediately extract the most hidden truth from the opponent.

The man lowered his head in thought for a moment, then hesitantly replied, ”Probably... twenty or thirty.”

”Twenty or thirty?!”

This number shocked both Political Commissioner Li and Director Hou simultaneously. The two looked at each other, almost unable to believe their ears.

Twenty or thirty trafficked women—what an astounding scale!

Since the founding of the country, there has never been a trafficking case of such magnitude.

This is no longer just a matter of alarming the provincial department; even the central ministries might be shaken.

Political Commissioner Li suppressed the shock in his heart and continued asking, ”So now only these four women remain in the village, yet to be rescued?”

The man nodded, somewhat evasive: ”Yes... they’ve all had children there, probably... they don’t want to leave.”

”Whether they want to leave or not is none of your business!”

”I now only ask you, where’s the village chief?”

”When I left, he was still in the village...” The man’s voice grew quieter.

”What’s his name?” Political Commissioner Li pressed.

”Wu Guang, he’s an old man.”

Upon hearing this name, Mr. Qin and Jiang An quickly exchanged a glance.
