The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Soon, Mr. Qin drove personally, taking a few team members to Deng Juan’s old home.

As the door opened, two elderly people were standing in the middle of the main room, supporting each other, their bodies hunched and as thin as a rake.

Seeing Mr. Qin and his team in uniform, the eyes of the two elders welled up with tears instantly.

”So... is it true?”

The elderly woman spoke shakily, her voice sounding as though it were torn from the depths of her throat, ”Is it true that my daughter... is no longer with us?”

Mr. Qin’s throat tightened, and he was momentarily speechless.

”We... we are still investigating, it’s currently just a hypothesis, the exact situation is not clear.”

Mr. Qin did not give a definitive answer.

Although in his heart, he almost believed that the white bone brought back was Deng Juan, who had been missing for years, his professional rigor and sympathy for the elderly made him choose to hold back.

He knew that sometimes an uncertain answer, a lingering hope might be the only force keeping these two frail, aged people alive.

Beside him, the forensic officer took out the blood sampling equipment to collect samples from the two elders.

”When was the last time your daughter contacted you?”

The elder wiped his eyes with his sleeve, trying hard to recall: ”She... she said she was going to an interview for a job... didn’t mention the exact time, I even sent her some money for travel expenses.”

”Who would have known... that since then, there has been no further communication...”

”Did you report it to the police back then?”

”Yes, we did, the police also filed a case... but they couldn’t find the person, it was as if she had vanished into thin air...”

Hearing this, Mr. Qin’s heart sank suddenly.

He suddenly made a connection with the recent campus scam cases—those cases often used ”high-paying jobs” and ”food and accommodation included” to lure young people to the border, or even smuggle them to Myanmar and other places for telecommunication fraud activities.

But someone like Deng Juan, who had been gone for years without any information, not even a ransom call, was abnormal.

Could it be as Jiang An had previously speculated, this wasn’t an ordinary scam, but an organized, premeditated trafficking?

The aim wasn’t to extort money, but to directly control personal freedom, or even...

Mr. Qin looked at the elderly couple in front of him, almost crushed, feeling an unprecedented sense of responsibility weigh on his shoulders.

This was no longer merely an unresolved missing person case, but a race against time, a battle against crime—he must find the answer, not only for justice but to provide closure to this couple.

Upon bidding farewell, the two white-haired elders tightly clutched Mr. Qin’s arm, repeatedly pleading: ”Please, make sure to help us find out the truth, and respond to us as soon as possible...”

Mr. Qin nodded solemnly, responding in a deep voice: ”Rest assured, we will do our utmost.”

Meanwhile, another team of investigators had arrived at the largest local fruit and vegetable market.

Right now, it was the peak trading time, the market was bustling with people and there was a dense flow of vehicles.

Looking around, the vast market was packed with various trucks, a considerable number of which belonged to local vehicles.

Li Biao and his team gently parked the police car at the entrance of a wholesale stall.

He led two officers forward, presented his credentials, and asked: ”Boss, is the transportation volume of fruits and vegetables here large?”

The owner, sitting on a chair checking documents, looked up and saw it was the police, he quickly stood up, smiled and replied: ”Officer, look around, the market is full of people inside and out, of course, the transportation volume is large!”

”I won’t lie to you, business has been booming since two years ago, and the daily freight volume is quite considerable.”

Li Biao glanced around and continued asking: ”So, are most of the people picking up goods here external merchants or local shopkeepers?”

The owner wiped the sweat off his forehead and answered earnestly: ”Well, there are both cases.”

”Some powerful fruit stall owners have formed their transport fleet, they prefer to handle transportation themselves to maximize profit margins.”

”But some stall owners prefer convenience and directly outsource transportation business to professional logistics companies.”

Hearing this, Li Biao paused his steps and suddenly turned to inquire: ”You just mentioned some goods are transported by local vehicle owners using their own cars?”

”Then do you have any impression of which specific owners are locals, who have their vehicles?”

The stall owner wiped his hands and shook his head: ”I’m really unclear about this, there are so many vehicles coming and going every day, and the people are also mixed.”

”However, our vegetables and fruits are usually taken by long-haul drivers to sell elsewhere, while local cars are rather less common.”

After leaving the stall, Li Biao analyzed with the two officers beside him while walking: ”If the previous repairman’s recollection is accurate, then it is highly likely that the vehicle we are looking for is a local license plate, with the owner frequently operating in this area.”

”Exactly,” one of the young officers chimed in, ”this way, the scope of investigation is significantly narrowed down.”

Li Biao pondered for a moment, then said: ”My plan is to first focus our efforts on interviewing all possible local vehicles in the fruit wholesale market.”

”If this path doesn’t work, we can expand the scope and check surrounding markets and logistics points for eligible vehicles.”

”Makes sense,”

The young officer added, ”and although some vehicles have local plates, the owners might not reside nearby. They might be temporarily taking orders for freight, which means they are mobile, and the investigation needs to be thorough.”

Without further delay, the four of them immediately spread out in the fruit wholesale market to conduct detailed visits, interviewing stall owners one by one, recording vehicle information, and checking suspicious clues.
