The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Director Hou then nodded and analyzed further from a professional angle: ”From a forensic perspective, this distribution of force is logical.”

”The autopsy revealed multiple fractures on both sides of the ribs of the deceased, indicating that the impact force was transmitted from the front to both sides of the torso.”

But he also raised a critical question: ”However, are mere rib fractures enough to cause deformation of metal parts when impacting the front of a vehicle?”

”You must know, the density and strength of vehicle metal materials are usually far higher than human bones.”

Facing the two men’s doubts, Jiang An solemnly nodded and responded calmly: ”Director Hou, Political Commissioner Li, the questions you raised are very crucial.”

”In fact, I have always believed that to achieve a breakthrough in this case, aside from rigorous technical analysis, a certain degree of luck is required.”

He paused briefly, further explaining: ”This ’luck’ largely depends on the material hardness of the front of the vehicle and its deformation state.

If the structure strength of the vehicle’s front bumper is extremely high and the steel thickness is sufficient, then even if it collides violently with the human body, it may leave almost no visible deformation.”

He continued to elaborate: ”Moreover, if during this period, the front of the vehicle has had its bumper or other related parts replaced, the original impact traces may be completely covered or eliminated; in that case, we would be almost impossible to find direct physical evidence.”

At this point, he shifted his tone slightly with a hint of hope: ”However, in my view, there is also a relatively ideal scenario—that is when the vehicle’s front was not extensively repaired back then, only forming minor, unnoticeable local indentations or material stretching.”

”If this is really the case, we have a chance to gradually restore the mechanical features of the moment of impact through fine three-dimensional scanning of the vehicle’s front plane, measurement of metal thickness, and microstructural analysis, thereby extracting crucial evidence.”

The three listened and fell into thought, then nodded in agreement without prompting.

Political Commissioner Li, Mr. Qin, and Jiang An were immersed in pondering over the newly proposed method, with mixed expressions of prudence and anticipation.

After a moment, Political Commissioner Li was the first to break the silence, saying solemnly: ”Just like one point and two lines we analyzed before, logically it seems to form a set of explanations, but the key issue is—can we ascertain that this is the specific trace left by the deceased’s impact?”

”After all, this is merely a probability deduction based on existing signs, not a unique inference process.”

”We need to consider other interfering factors, and cannot draw conclusions solely based on morphologic similarity.”

”Indeed,”

Mr. Qin took over the conversation, ”The cause of site traces is often complex, and we must exclude the possibility of artificial forgery or multiple events overlapping.”

Jiang An slightly nodded, his expression serious and composed: ”I understand your concerns.”

”This possibility certainly exists; even if we successfully find such traces, it’s hard to meet the standard of ’uniqueness’ identification.”

”After all, the possibility of similar forms caused by artificial manipulation or multiple impacts is very high.”

”Then, the problem arises—how can we accurately find the corresponding stress surface and support framework structure in the complex site environment?”

”There is a lot of ambiguity in between. However, I have another idea on this side.”

”Oh? You say you have a ’secret trick’?”

Mr. Qin showed an expression of incredulity, a glint flashing across his previously tense face, and his tone became lighter.

”Big brother, this is simply a miraculous cure!”

”We are like walking into a dead end right now, yet you still have new ideas, truly unexpected!”

Director Hou, though not commenting immediately, cast a look of appreciation and encouragement, and signaled with a raised hand: ”Speak it out.”

Jiang An nodded and calmly explained further: ”My idea is to conduct high-precision local three-dimensional reconstruction and precise measurement on the fracture sites of the deceased’s ribs and head.”

”Through technical means, calculate the exact distances and spatial relationships between each damage center point.”

”In this way, we can convert the originally subjective judgment of ’morphologic similarity’ into an objective ’data match,’ providing solid, quantifiable bases for subsequent deduction analysis.”

He paused briefly, his tone more resolute: ”It is tough to meet modern evidence requirements relying solely on perceptive cognition or experience judgment.”

”Only through precise measurement, data modeling, plus the perfect combination of multi-disciplinary means, can we provide powerful support for crucial judgments of the case—not only concerning the scientific nature of conclusions but also the evidence validity in subsequent legal procedures.”

Hearing this, Mr. Qin couldn’t help but nod repeatedly, ”Indeed, this is a good idea!”

”If we can indeed achieve three-dimensional reconstruction and achieve perfect data matching, then these traces can fully be used as crucial evidence—not only intuitive but also highly persuasive!”

Director Hou listened to the report, a serious expression showing on his face.

He pondered for a moment before slowly speaking: ”Jiang An’s proposed thought is indeed very valuable, theoretically providing us with a new investigation direction. However...”

He paused, unconsciously tapping his fingers on the tabletop, ”The implementation of this method requires quite stringent conditions, requiring many coincidental arrangements.”

”Especially in real cases, any slight deviation may lead to distorted results.”

He picked up the scene investigation photos on the table and continued: ”For example, measurement errors that are hard to avoid, or the relative displacement of the vehicle when the impact occurred; these factors may lead to changes in the position of local contact points.”

”In dynamic impact processes, these variables are often difficult to precisely control.”

”What do you mean?” Mr. Qin leaned forward, frowning slightly.

”Specifically, at the moment of impact, the first contact point affects the victim’s head, then due to inertia, the body would become distorted and deformed, meanwhile, the vehicle involved may also experience displacement.”

”These dynamic changes would cause the fracture positions of the ribs to correspondingly change.”

”In such situations, stress points are not fixed but rather a sliding, continuously changing process.”

At this point, Jiang An spoke thoughtfully: ”Director Hou’s analysis is quite professional.”

”Our current measurement methods are based on static models, but during actual incident occurrence, all elements are in dynamic changes.”

”To make this deduction valid, indeed many specific condition cooperations are needed—for example, within a very short time window, no obvious relative displacement occurred, and the impact force and angle were both just right, providing effective judgment bases for us.”

He paused briefly, surveying the attendees, supplementing: ”Conversely, if significant displacement occurs during the impact process, regardless of the body movement of the victim or vehicle sliding, it will cause unnoticed disturbance to our measurement data, leading to biased conclusions.”

After hearing this analysis, Political Commissioner Li sighed lightly, his gaze sweeping across each special task force member present.

”No matter how many difficulties there are, we must try our utmost.”

His tone was firm and steady, ”At present, this is indeed the most feasible solution we have found.”

”I have worked in public security for over twenty years, handling numerous cases of all sizes; sometimes solving a case indeed requires some special opportunities.”

He leaned forward slightly, hands folded on the table: ”Some cases require breaking conventional thinking, adopting unconventional investigation approaches.”

”In my view, despite the risks in Jiang An’s proposed method, it is worth trying.”

”When investigation work hits a stalemate, appropriate ’unorthodox moves’ often open up new prospects.”

He then turned to Director Hou, sincerely asking: ”Director Hou, as a technical expert, what do you think of this plan?”

Director Hou pushed his glasses and nodded solemnly: ”Although there are many uncertainties, under current circumstances, this is indeed our only breakthrough point.”

”We can control the error range as much as possible through refined operations.”

Upon receiving affirmation, Political Commissioner Li immediately turned to Mr. Qin, issuing orders: ”Mr. Qin, please immediately mobilize personnel, as per the plan discussed, gather all relevant vehicles to the appraisal center.”

”Each vehicle must undergo comprehensive examinations; ensure detailed identification and comparison work is done, absolutely no clues should be missed.”

”Understood!” Mr. Qin immediately stood up to respond, ”I will arrange it right away, ensuring task completion.”
