Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

He unlocked the door and entered, the house was silent, the child was at school, and An Hao was at work. The cleanliness of the house seemed a bit lacking.

An Hao must not have cleaned for a few days, as a layer of dust had settled on the tabletop, the quilt on the bed was scattered and not folded, and the kitchen was filled with dirty dishes soaking. This was completely unlike his young wife’s typical behavior.

She was someone who loved cleanliness, so the house being like this was truly unexpected.

Qin Jian rarely came home, and since he was back, seeing the house still this messy, he decided to tidy up.

Thus, he changed out of his military uniform into casual clothes and gave the house a thorough cleaning, inside and out. He even washed the dirty clothes that had piled up, wrung them out, and hung them on the balcony.

By evening, Qin Jian went to the market to buy groceries. After cleaning them, he began preparing ingredients for cooking. Although he couldn’t cook, he could do some preparatory work to lighten his wife’s task.

Everything was almost done, when Qin Jian heard footsteps in the corridor, he went to open the door and saw his own cheeky rascal standing at the doorstep.

”Dad! You’re back!” Ning Chenyang was very happy to see Qin Jian, having not seen him for a month, he really missed his father.

”You little rascal, did you miss your dad?” Qin Jian ruffled Ning Chenyang’s hair and lifted him up, ”You’re heavier.”

”Dad, when I grow up will you not be able to lift me?” Ning Chenyang blinked and asked.

”Dad’s shoulders have plenty of strength.” Qin Jian patted his own arms, ”Even if you grow to seventeen or eighteen, dad can still lift you.”

”Really?”

”Is there any doubt?” Qin Jian raised his hand and playfully tapped his nose, laughing.

”Dad, you’re amazing!” Qin Jian was Ning Chenyang’s hero, seeing his father like a mountain filled his heart with pride, ”Dad, I’m going to be on holiday soon, after my holiday, can you take me to the military camp? I want to train with those uncles too.”

”Ambitious! Dad promises you!” Qin Jian gave a thumbs up to praise his son, thinking how quickly time flies, in a blink, he would graduate from kindergarten and go to elementary school.

”Then it’s a deal.” Ning Chenyang reached out to pinky promise Qin Jian.

”It’s a promise.” Qin Jian reached out his hand too.

An Hao came home from work, opening the door to the surprise of seeing Qin Jian back, the big and small of them were both making a pinky promise, as if they had agreed on something.

”You’re back. When did you arrive?” An Hao approached, kissed her son’s cheek, and then kissed Qin Jian’s cheek as well.

”Afternoon.” Qin Jian put his son down, took An Hao’s bag, and hung it on the coat rack, ”Son, go get your mom a cup of water.”

An Hao took the glass of cool boiled water Ning Chenyang brought her, sipping to cool off. She looked around the house for a while, surprised and said, ”You tidied up the house?”

”Yeah. How is it? Still neat, right?” Qin Jian asked.

”Of course! You should know old Qin! Your housekeeping is first-rate!” An Hao happily praised.

”What did you call me?” Qin Jian raised his eyebrows at An Hao, ”Repeat it.”

”Old Qin!”

”Say it again!”

”Old... hahaha!” An Hao saw Qin Jian’s darkening face and couldn’t help but laugh aloud, ”Old, just admit you’re old! Why not admit it, keeping a straight face!”
