Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Ji Chuan was lost in thought when a knock came at the door. He got up to answer it and saw the director standing outside.

”Is there something you need, Director?”

”Didn’t we agree before? We said we’d have dinner together. Why the sudden change of plans? Do you know how much this damages the leader’s reputation?” the director said.

”I never agreed to it before; you made the decision for me,” Ji Chuan frowned slightly.

”I say... okay, even if I decided for you, if you didn’t want to go, you could have just said something. What’s the point of saying it now?”

Indeed, Ji Chuan was hesitant before because both the director and the leader had suggested it, and he didn’t want to undermine leadership authority. However, since Yan Huan was concerned that Qiu Xinyi might have feelings for him, he naturally wanted to reassure his fiancée, so he decided not to go.

Seeing Ji Chuan remain silent, the director continued, ”You have a night shift, don’t you? It’s just a meal; it won’t take much of your time. You should always consider the leader’s face! If you just say you’re not going, aren’t you putting the leader in an awkward position? The leader understands your concerns, don’t worry, we’re all here, and it won’t cause you any trouble.”

Ji Chuan thought the director’s words made sense and finally agreed, ”Alright then, just this once, but not again. Please don’t make decisions for me in the future.”

”Alright, alright. I apologize for my mistake this time, okay?” the director said with a smile.

Ji Chuan was a valuable asset that the director had painstakingly recruited, and he had to be handled with care.

The dinner was at a very distinctive restaurant called the Veteran’s Post.

In today’s terms, you might consider it a themed restaurant, but back then, this ’Veteran’s Post’ was actually opened by an old soldier retired from a cooking unit.

The food here was very affordable and tasted good. More importantly, it had a nostalgic feel.

Every weekend, many veterans, both retired and active, would come here for a meal, and over time, those who came here knew each other.

The director booked a private room.

After the four of them sat down, they called the waiter to order.

The waiters here were also veterans, and upon seeing the rank insignias of high-ranking officers, they would greet them respectfully in a manner unique to veterans.

”The food here is quite affordable, some dishes are what we used to eat in the units, and it’s really nostalgic to be here,” the director smiled, introducing it to Chief Qiu.

”The name is also quite nice—Veteran’s Post, it sounds so welcoming,” Chief Qiu said with a smile. ”After dinner, I want to personally meet this veteran.”

”Dr. Ji, you don’t have this kind of sentiment, do you?” Qiu Xinyi stood up to refill Ji Chuan’s tea. ”I heard you’re a top student from the medical school? I always thought you were a military doctor.”

”I joined the hospital first, then the military,” Ji Chuan explained simply.

”No wonder,” Qiu Xinyi looked at Ji Chuan’s face, which seemed to keep everyone at a distance, feeling a growing desire to conquer.

This kind of man, when he smiles gently, his charming eyes seem to deliver a jolt of electricity, causing a tingling sensation. When he is serious and cold, he has a deadly allure, making people want to take a few more glances, to use their charm to melt him down.

Anticipating seeing him show that gentle expression towards her.
