Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”What!!!” Yan Huan’s anger shot straight to the top, and she jumped out of bed and rushed to the command center.

Qin Jian was having a meeting with several strategy advisors when he saw Yan Huan come over, her face full of anger, and asked her: ”What’s happened?”

”I want to make a call! I need to find Ji Chuan!” Yan Huan squeezed the words out through clenched teeth.

Qin Jian saw that the situation seemed somewhat serious, quickly wrapping up the meeting that was already nearing its end and dismissing the crowd before asking Yan Huan: ”What’s going on? Did you eat dynamite?”

”Didn’t eat. Might as well have. Commander Qin, I need to call him. If he doesn’t explain this clearly, I’m breaking up with him!” Yan Huan was so furious she could say nothing else.

”Alright.” Qin Jian didn’t say much and just had the communications guy dial a number for Yan Huan, ”Talk to him slowly.”

This time, it wasn’t a case of no answer; the call finally connected.

Ji Chuan could have relaxed, but he always felt like something was missing when he went back, so he didn’t leave.

Sitting in the office, reading a book while waiting for the call.

Several days had passed now; it’s about time a call came.

This time his instincts were quite accurate; as soon as the phone rang, he picked it up at lightning speed: ”Hello...”

”Ji Chuan, explain to me what’s going on between you and Qiu Xinyi? It’s been so many days, and you’ve been silent, not even giving me a call. Tell me what exactly is the nature of our relationship!” The moment Yan Huan heard Ji Chuan’s voice, she erupted, finally unleashing the anger she had bottled up for so many days.

Ji Chuan felt warmth hearing Yan Huan’s voice, thinking the carefree Yan Huan he knew had returned. If they weren’t so far apart, he’d love to hold her tight and give her a good hug: ”Sweetheart, anger hurts your health! Can’t I explain to you? There’s absolutely nothing between Qiu Xinyi and me. The dean insisted on having me for dinner that day; he can vouch for me. I forgot to tell you, and that’s my fault. I’ll make sure to remember next time! I’m sorry!”

When Yan Huan heard Ji Chuan’s magnetic voice carry a little bit of mischievousness, her rage mysteriously eased quite a bit. Since she was seeking accountability, she had to clarify everything: ”Ji Chuan, you just sweet-talk me! What’s with the breakfast?”

”What breakfast? How did you know?” Ji Chuan was puzzled about how the news got out.

”Tan Xiaomei called you, and Qiu Xinyi answered! Do you mean anyone can just enter your office?”

”Sweetheart, you need to hear me out. I was in the operating room performing surgery then; everyone can attest to that! If I’m lying to you, I...”

Ji Chuan was eager to clear the misunderstanding with his sweetheart; he usually shunned swearing but was ready to swear this time.

”Don’t say that!” Yan Huan didn’t want to hear such an oath and quickly cut him off, ”Are you sure you’re not lying to me?”

”Absolutely! Yan Huan, you need to have confidence in me, and also in yourself.”

”I...”

”If you don’t believe me, I’ll prove my innocence when I get back.”

”What kind of thing is that?” Yan Huan said, but her inner anger was gradually dissipating.

”Sweetheart, I’ve actually made a lot of calls to you. I even specifically went to your unit, only to discover you’d gone for training. We have a misunderstanding; you must believe in my heart for you! Besides, I’m not blind. Why would I choose someone else over a wonderful sweetheart like you?” Ji Chuan’s earnest and sweet words immediately doused much of Yan Huan’s fire.

”Who’s your sweetheart...” Yan Huan muttered softly, ”We’re not even married yet.”
