Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Qiu Xinyi?” The person on the other end immediately recognized her voice. ”What are you doing in Dr. Ji’s office?”

”Xiaomei!” At the same time, Qiu Xinyi also recognized who it was. ”Aren’t you doing an interview? How do you have time to call Dr. Ji?”

”I’m asking you what you’re doing in Dr. Ji’s office. Where is he? Let him answer the phone!” Tan Xiaomei’s tone was somewhat unfriendly.

”What does Dr. Ji do that concerns you?” Qiu Xinyi curled her lips. She had originally planned to dismiss Tan Xiaomei with a couple of sentences and leave, but hearing Tan Xiaomei’s tone, she knew Yan Huan must be nearby, so she simply decided not to leave. Leaning against the table, she twirled the phone cord with her fingers and chatted with Tan Xiaomei, ”Dr. Ji has been performing surgeries for several days and is a bit worn out. He didn’t even have breakfast this morning, so I brought him breakfast. He just finished eating and went to fetch water to brew tea to thank me for the breakfast I brought him.”

”What gives you the right to bring breakfast to Dr. Ji... you think you’re...” Tan Xiaomei almost blurted out a curse, but thinking about the potential repercussions of offending Qiu Xinyi, she swallowed her words in dread.

”I don’t think I’m anyone special.” Qiu Xinyi came close to being scolded, but she still felt quite pleased within. ”Ji Chuan has been dedicated to my father’s surgery, so of course, I will be loyal and devoted to Dr. Ji. Oh, by the way, pass a message to Yan Huan for me; her boyfriend is quite the gentle one.”

The call was hung up, and Qiu Xinyi walked out with the smile of a victor. At least, in this round of confrontation, she had completely outplayed Yan Huan.

Tan Xiaomei hung up the call and returned to the camp where Yan Huan was.

At this moment, Yan Huan was lying on the bed being examined by the squad’s medic. During the drills, Yan Huan had been moving among different military units for photography.

A blank round used in the exercise misfired and landed beside her. Although the blank round wouldn’t actually harm people, it indeed startled Yan Huan significantly.

She made a diving move, and in the process, accidentally bumped her head.

Now she was experiencing dizziness and nausea, initially suspected to be concussion. However, the possibility of cerebral hemorrhage couldn’t be ruled out.

Upon hearing the situation, Qin Jian insisted on sending people to escort her to the nearest hospital for examination. While organizing people to send Yan Huan off, she became a bit scared and asked Tan Xiaomei to call Ji Chuan to have him come quickly.

But who knew, the situation with Tan Xiaomei calling Ji Chuan turned out like this.

Tan Xiaomei didn’t dare to tell Yan Huan the truth, fearing it might upset her. If Yan Huan indeed had a head injury and got angry, something could go wrong.

”Xiaomei, what did Ji Chuan say?” Yan Huan looked at Xiaomei with eager eyes. When people are sick, injured, or experiencing major life events, they always want the closest or most important person to be by their side.

Ji Chuan was about to become her husband, thus the most important person in her life.

”He said he’s on his way and you should quickly go to the nearest hospital for a check-up.” Tan Xiaomei lied.

”Okay.” Yan Huan nodded in agreement.

The nearest hospital was dozens of kilometers away, and Qin Jian arranged for a vehicle to take Yan Huan there. Because she had to stay for the interview, Tan Xiaomei couldn’t accompany Yan Huan.

So, the medic accompanied her.

Watching the car drive away, Qin Jian asked Tan Xiaomei, ”What did Ji Chuan actually say?”

”Report... report to the commander... it wasn’t Dr. Ji who answered the phone.” Tan Xiaomei stammered, ”I didn’t dare tell Sister Yan.”
