Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”What about cadre children?” Yan Huan tilted her head to look at Xiaomei Tan, ”Aren’t both Qin Commander and I cadre children? When have you ever seen us getting special treatment? It’s all about character.”

”Yes, yes, yes.” Xiaomei Tan echoed repeatedly, ”I remember when Qin Commander was our regimental commander here, he was very strict, and the troops he led were disciplined. If Qiu Xinyi were here then, I bet she wouldn’t dare to act like this! She would be in big trouble.”

”What are you saying? What do you mean by big trouble? It’s only because she couldn’t handle the discipline and faced punishment from the higher-ups.”

”Yan Sister, you’re absolutely right.” Xiaomei Tan raised both hands in agreement.

Both she and Yan Huan had suffered greatly due to Qiu Xinyi’s irresponsible work attitude.

”Alright, let’s not talk about it anymore. Since you’re here, help me proofread this.” Yan Huan handed her the completed manuscript.

Xiaomei Tan bowed her head and proofread two pages. Seeing Yan Huan had calmed down a bit, she tried to tell Yan Huan about what she saw yesterday.

She wasn’t trying to stir up trouble.

She just wanted Yan Huan to see clearly that Yan Huan had been really good to her over the years. She witnessed the ups and downs of Yan Huan’s relationships, and now finally Yan Huan had found someone she liked, and this relationship was about to blossom.

She didn’t want Yan Huan to choose the wrong person.

Whether what she saw last night was a misunderstanding or true, she wanted to tell Yan Huan, so Yan Huan could have some understanding and make some decisions.

”Yan Sister.” Xiaomei Tan called out softly to Yan Huan, ”I have something I want to say to you.”

Without looking up, Yan Huan said, ”If you have something to say, just say it, why the hesitation?”

”Don’t get angry when you hear it,” Xiaomei Tan said apprehensively.

”I don’t even know what it is, why would I get angry?” Yan Huan laughed and lifted her head.

”I... I saw Doctor Ji yesterday.”

”Hm? And then...” Yan Huan kept looking at Xiaomei Tan, waiting for her to continue.

Xiaomei Tan gritted her teeth and described the situation at the time: ”I went to a restaurant to eat yesterday. I saw Doctor Ji dining with Qiu Xinyi and Qiu Staff Commander. Qiu Xinyi drank too much, and Doctor Ji was holding her, carrying her down the stairs, and out of the restaurant.”

Yan Huan’s previously smiling face slowly became cold, and the smile at the corner of her mouth gradually froze and stiffened.

”And... and then Qiu Xinyi threw up, and Doctor Ji was handing her water and tissues, being very considerate.” Xiaomei Tan simply described the scene to her.

She didn’t even dare to describe some details to Yan Huan.

”Anything else...” Yan Huan’s pen-holding hand was gripping so tightly that it made a creaking sound.

”That’s it.” Xiaomei Tan was frightened by Yan Huan’s demeanor, ”Yan Sister, are you okay?”

”I’m not okay.” Yan Huan shouted angrily, picked up the phone on the table, and dialed Ji Chuan’s office at the hospital.

After a series of rings, no one picked up the call.

Yan Huan immediately dialed the service counter of the surgical ward, and the nurse on duty answered the phone.

”Ji Chuan! Get Ji Chuan to pick up the phone!”

”Doctor Ji is in the operating room saving a patient. Is there something urgent?”

”About what time will he finish the surgery?” Yan Huan asked aggressively.
