Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Yan, you’re finally back,” Tan Xiaomei said hurriedly as she packed her things. ”The commander has been looking for you for a long time. I didn’t dare tell him the truth. Get ready quickly and follow the troops to the exercise!”

”What?” Yan Huan looked bewildered. ”What exercise are we going to? This news came so suddenly!”

”Oh, it’s not us going to the exercise. We’re going there to conduct interviews,” Tan Xiaomei explained while her hands never stopped packing.

A few days ago, the higher-ups returned from a meeting at the division headquarters. The military district commander issued directives to the whole army to strengthen the clear orientation of training and prepare for war, enhance targeted confrontation training, and improve the practical level of military training.

So, the warriors of their regiment were fully armed, waiting to depart.

The order just came down, confirming the departure today. The whole regiment of warriors went to the mobilization meeting, preparing to leave immediately.

”They sure act fast! This news came too suddenly,” Yan Huan also joined in, quickly packing up.

This was a big event for the whole army group, and as the news officer in the regiment, they had an unshirkable task to follow the warriors and officers to the exercise and bring back first-hand information.

”This kind of surprise attack isn’t just a one-off,” Tan Xiaomei said, having packed the necessary work items, ”I’ll go pack some luggage in the dorm. Yan, you should call your family first.”

”Okay, you go ahead.”

After Tan Xiaomei left, Yan Huan reported the situation to her family and then returned to the dormitory as well.

Half an hour later, the two of them joined the team with their bags.

Ji Chuan completed the sutures for the surgery, checked the patient’s condition, and seeing that it was stable, he stretched his stiff spine and went to change clothes.

Coming out of the operating room, he walked towards his office.

”Director Ji.” A nurse on duty called out to him as he passed the nurse’s station. ”Two women came looking for you just now.”

”Two? Who were they?” Ji Chuan asked casually.

”I’m not too sure. It seems both of them have been here before,” the nurse replied cautiously, uncertain of Ji Chuan’s relationship with the two people and not daring to speak rashly.

”Both of them have been here?” Ji Chuan was pondering who these two people might be when An Hao came down from the upstairs to find Ji Chuan.

”Director Ji, are you busy now?”

”I just finished surgery, should be fine now.”

”Let’s go, let’s talk!” An Hao smiled, taking the lead and walking towards his office.

”Talk about what?” Ji Chuan promptly followed with big strides.

”Talk about what you’ve done to make Yan Huan so angry,” An Hao pushed the door open and went in, sitting directly in the chair opposite the desk.

”What? Yan Huan is angry? Angry about what? What happened?” Ji Chuan still couldn’t make sense of the situation, completely confused.

”She came to find you, originally intending to question why you lied to her last night. But after visiting your office, she left angrily. When I ran into her, her eyes were red as if she was holding back tears,” An Hao said while looking around Ji Chuan’s office, finally focusing her gaze on a clothing bag in the bookshelf cabinet.

Following her line of sight, Ji Chuan stood up, went to the cabinet, and retrieved the item. After reading the content on the note, his face darkened, and a cold look appeared in his eyes.
