Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Ji Chuan gently knocked on the door.

Lin Qiushu looked up and saw Ji Chuan standing at the door, quickly turned her body to the side to avoid being seen while feeding the child.

Yan Ye saw Ji Chuan through the glass on the hospital room door, got up and pushed the door open to walk out: ”Why are you here? Night shift tonight?”

Ji Chuan shook his head: ”No. Tonight, I’m with a friend from the United States and Yan Huan!”

”Really?” Yan Ye’s face lit up with a smile, ”Looks like your relationship is getting better. What? Now that my sister is gone, are you too excited to sleep? So you came to chat with me?”

Ji Chuan gave a wry smile: ”In your eyes, I am such an unstable person?”

”You’ve always been very steady! However, I wish you would become unstable after meeting my sister, that’s called being crazy for love! Only those who are crazy for love, have truly experienced it.”

”Nonsense!” Ji Chuan laughed and scolded him, then his expression turned serious, ”I have something to ask you. If you know anything, just answer truthfully!”

”Okay. When have I ever lied to you? What do you want to ask? Just ask away!”

Ji Chuan nodded, took a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, lit one for himself and slowly said: ”There’s been progress in Yan Huan’s condition. I have a very good friend who’s a specialist in this field! After his confirmation, it’s likely that Yan Huan is suffering from a psychological disorder! We are now searching for the cause, and I want to know if Yan Huan ever experienced something, or was she severely traumatized?”

Yan Ye was shocked for a moment at Ji Chuan’s words.

Despite his shock, he decided he still needed to answer Ji Chuan’s question.

Some things happened so long ago that both the memory and the impression are blurry. But if one tries to recall it intentionally, it’s still possible.

Yan Ye thought for a while and then said: ”Actually, Yan Huan’s life has been quite smooth! Except for something that happened when she was eight! That event must have been a huge shock for her.”

Ji Chuan’s heart skipped a beat, and his action of smoking stopped.

His eyes silently gazed at Yan Ye, waiting for him to continue.

”When Huanhuan was eight, my parents were transferred to Nancheng for the first time due to work! They were very young at the time, both working hard on their careers, often both of them were on the military base. Nobody was watching over me and Huanhuan, so we roamed freely in the base’s family compound...”

At this point, Yan Ye paused.

Ji Chuan’s heart suddenly jumped to his throat.

”But the family compound was just a big yard, only that one area, Huanhuan and I soon explored it completely. So, we were eager to explore outside! Soon, we had our chance! We switched to a new school after moving to the new city! After school, it was my responsibility to take my sister home! But once, I had a high fever, very high, my mother got a call from the teacher and rushed over, taking me directly to get an IV treatment! When my sister got out of school, she found no one at the gate to pick her up...” Yan Ye recounted that heart-wrenching scene from so long ago in a calm tone.
