Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”I don’t know. When we got back, the police officers were still catching the kidnappers.”

Yan Huan sighed and said, ”Yangyang, you have to remember this. You mustn’t be so reckless in the future. In this military compound, it’s fine whatever mischief you make. But once you step outside, you have to be extremely careful, understand?”

”Don’t worry, Godmother! I understand.” Ning Chenyang nodded his head.

”Good boy. Hungry? Godmother will take you to eat something tasty.”

”Godmother is so good to me.”

Ning Chenyang thought the matter was over, but unexpectedly, after having a meal with Yan Huan outside, they returned home to find Qin Jian sitting on the sofa.

”Dad!” He ran over as he usually did.

But Qin Jian didn’t lift him up joyfully as before; his face was cold, his eyes vaguely suppressing anger.

”Commander Qin, you’re back?” Yan Huan sensed something was wrong with Qin Jian’s expression, it seemed he knew what had happened today.

Qin Jian nodded slightly, but his gaze turned to Ning Chenyang, beckoning him, ”Come over here, Dad has something to ask you.”

Ning Chenyang wasn’t naive; seeing this situation, he understood and quickly made a big yawn, pretending to be very sleepy, ”Dad, I’m so tired! I have to go to rest, I have kindergarten tomorrow.”

”Stop right there.” Qin Jian’s face turned even darker, knowing better than anyone what his son was thinking, ”Tell me, what did you do this afternoon?”

”I...” Ning Chenyang scratched his head, sneaking a glance at Yan Huan, silently pleading for help.

Yan Huan got the hint and smiled at Qin Jian, ”Commander, I’ve already taught him. Rest assured, this won’t happen again. The kid looks tired, maybe he should go to rest?”

”Yan Huan. You don’t need to interfere with this. You’ve worked hard these past days, so go rest early today!” Qin Jian indirectly issued a dismissal.

He knew women were soft-hearted.

Her presence would affect how he disciplined his child.

”Commander, I...” Yan Huan tried to find a reason to stay, but seeing Qin Jian’s cold-as-ice face, she shivered with fear.

In the end, she was still afraid of Qin Jian’s overly serious demeanor.

”Alright then.” She agreed, then gave Ning Chenyang a look as if to say ’take care’, and left.

Ning Chenyang was seeing such a frightening side of his dad for the first time, feeling a turmoil inside as if a hundred rabbits were trampling it.

He had only heard before that Wang Xiaohu’s dad would beat Wang Xiaohu with a flat ruler, so he was very worried his dad would do the same.

”Dad, I know I was wrong. I admit I was naughty. I was just really curious at first and wanted to try driving. I never thought I could actually drive, let alone get the car onto the road.”

”From what you’re saying, not only do you not think you did anything wrong, but you think you’re quite impressive?”

”No, no. I was wrong! Uncle Ma also taught me a lesson, I won’t dare to do it again.” Ning Chenyang looked at Qin Jian, asking worriedly, ”Dad, you won’t hit me, will you?”

”I won’t.” Qin Jian said with a stern face, ”But actions have consequences. I won’t hit you, but you will still be punished.”
