Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

The car slowly stopped as it passed by the group of kids, the window rolled down, and a soldier stuck his head out, ”Hey, you little rascals! You seem to be having a lot of fun!”

”Uncle Wang.” Ning Chenyang saw that Wang Xiaohu’s dad had returned by car, so he stood up and waved at him first.

”Chenyang, you’re getting more and more like a ’Commander’!” Wang Zhong said with a smile.

”Yeah! Way better than your chubby Wang’s commanding skills!” Ning Chenyang said bluntly. Ever since Wang Xiaohu bumped his brother Ning Chenguang’s head last time, the feud was truly set.

The two would get into fights at every opportunity.

Despite being young, each of them had more than their share of restlessness.

”Yes, yes. He’s up to no good naturally inferior to you! I’ll have to educate him well for him to learn and look up to you!” Wang Zhong chuckled as he finished speaking, rolled up the window, and signaled to the guard to drive the car away.

”Commander, weren’t you and Wang Xiaohu betting about driving a car? Why don’t you find a chance to practice?” Bean Sprout remembered the bet when he saw Wang Zhong.

”How dare you mention it.” Ning Chenyang reached out to give Wang Xiaohu a slap on the back of his head, ”Isn’t it all your bad idea?”

”Yes. I just couldn’t let it go, okay? Besides, you’re a genius kid, Commander! Everyone in the courtyard knows it! I thought driving should be no problem for you?” Bean Sprout scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

”You thought... if you think it’s okay, then you drive.”

”Chenyang, don’t be mad! Bean Sprout was just trying to boost your confidence! Wang Xiaohu’s too arrogant, right?” Sheng Xiaoguang also tried to console Ning Chenyang.

”Alright. Stop talking, it’s so annoying!” The bet was made, but Ning Chenyang was a bit anxious now that the initial impulsiveness had faded, ”Tell me, I haven’t even touched a car, where would I go to drive? Find me a car, let me try it first?”

”This...”

Bean Sprout was troubled.

Sheng Xiaoguang was troubled.

Everyone was troubled.

At this moment, Ning Chenguang saw from a distance that Wang Zhong’s car had stopped under the apartment building and had an idea.

”Let’s go! Follow me!” He waved his hand grandly, and the group of kids followed Ning Chenguang.

When they got to the car, the guard was carrying a bag of flour upstairs.

The car was empty, not a single person inside.

Sheng Xiaoguang hesitantly opened the car door and suddenly noticed the key was still in the ignition, excitedly shouting, ”Chenyang, there’s a key! There’s a key in the car.”

”Keep your voice down.” Ning Chenyang glared at him, ”If someone finds out, we won’t be able to drive.”

”Okay, okay! We’ll listen to you.” Sheng Xiaoguang quickly shut his mouth.

”Is anyone getting in the car?” Ning Chenyang sat in the driver’s seat and asked.

The kids blinked at him, not saying a word.

”Uh... Chenyang, can you drive? Is your technique good enough? How about you try driving first? If you can drive, we’ll get in?” Bean Sprout laughed sheepishly.

He wouldn’t dare risk his little life.

”Hah! Coward!” Ning Chenyang lowered his head, studied for a short while, adjusted the seat, and turned the key.

He had ridden in his dad’s car many times, recalling that he likely needed to shift gears first.
