Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Yan Huan’s lips curved slightly as she slowly opened her eyes.

This auntie was someone who naturally connected with others. Seeing Yan Huan awake, she couldn’t help but praise Ji Chuan: ”Young lady, your man is truly a good one. Not only does he look good, he’s also considerate and kind-hearted.”

Upon hearing this, Yan Huan blinked her eyes: ”Yep. I have good taste.”

The auntie laughed heartily, and Ji Chuan laughed along with her.

”So, you’re admitting it?” Ji Chuan whispered softly near Yan Huan’s ear.

”I just don’t want to spoil your image.”

”You... you heard everything just now?” Ji Chuan quietly pinched her palm, ”And you didn’t say anything? Were you hoping to hear more sweet words?”

Yan Huan’s ears turned warm: ”Who wants to hear you say sweet things? I just happened to overhear...”

”It’s okay. Even if that’s not the case, it’s fine. As long as you want to hear it, I can say it for a lifetime.” Ji Chuan teased.

”Oh, oh, look at this young couple, they’re so sweet.” The auntie watched them growing more cheerful, ”What’s that saying? ’A match made in heaven.’

Hearing this, Ji Chuan was also pleased. He gently nudged Yan Huan and said loudly, ”Wife, listen to how well this auntie speaks! Aren’t you going to thank her?”

Darn you, Ji Chuan?

You’re taking advantage of me again!

Yan Huan shot him a glare but when she turned her face, her eyes were lightly tinged with laughter: ”Thank you, auntie!”

”No need to be so polite.” The auntie was also pleased by what she saw.

”Are you still sleepy?” Ji Chuan asked with a smile on his lips.

”Sleepy! I’m exhausted!” Yan Huan gritted her teeth. Isn’t he fond of playing the good guy? Then she’ll give him that chance.

Yan Huan fell asleep once more, resting against Ji Chuan’s shoulder. Initially, she only intended to lean on his shoulder for a short while, but she ended up sleeping until they reached the station.

When the train stopped, Ji Chuan woke her up.

His entire arm had gone numb.

”Are we there?” Yan Huan rubbed her drowsy eyes, looking at the empty train car, ”What time is it now?”

”It’s ten o’clock.” Ji Chuan rubbed his shoulder and got up to retrieve their luggage from the overhead rack.

”I can’t believe I slept for so long.” Yan Huan moved her stiff neck a bit, thinking that if her neck felt uncomfortable, his shoulder must be worse, ”Are you alright? I just...”

”It’s no big deal.” Ji Chuan didn’t want Yan Huan to feel any guilt. He joked half-seriously, ”If you’re willing to be my wife, I don’t mind even if it’s three days and three nights.”

”I’ll think about it.” Yan Huan didn’t know what got into her, but she suddenly blurted out this response.

She was stunned right after she said it.

”Hearing that from you is enough for me.” Ji Chuan laughed heartily.

They got off the train and it was already quite late.

Luckily, there were still taxis at the station entrance, and Ji Chuan hailed one to take them home.

Their family lived in the city. Earlier, Ji Chuan had bought an apartment for his parents with the intention of it being for his son’s marriage.

Little did they expect that their son, now in his thirties, still hadn’t gotten married.

Not only did he remain single, but he also wouldn’t return to Jiangning.

The old couple had just this one son, whom they treasured dearly, yet they never pressured him too hard.

Both of them had fallen in love freely when they were young, overcoming many obstacles to finally be together.

They had been married for over thirty years, never even raising their voices at each other.
