Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Yan Huan finally managed to persuade Feng Yuzhi.

It’s better to take money and buy what you need after getting off the train than to carry a bunch of stuff over a long journey.

Feng Yuzhi thought it made sense, so she finally agreed.

......

Ji Chuan anxiously waited; once people have something to look forward to, they become less composed.

It was getting close to noon, and Ji Chuan finally couldn’t hold back any longer.

He picked up the phone on the table and was about to call Yan Huan’s home when the door sounded, and Yan Huan appeared before him, carrying her luggage.

”Ji Chuan, I’m going with you,” she said softly.

Ji Chuan visibly relaxed, beaming with excitement, ”Let’s go! I’ve been waiting for you to say that.”

They boarded the train around four in the afternoon.

This was Yan Huan’s first time traveling alone with a man, heading towards Jiangning against the setting western sun.

At this moment, all Yan Huan could see and feel was Ji Chuan and the home she was about to visit.

The journey from Nancheng to Jiangning is about a thousand miles, taking eight or nine hours by train.

The carriage was extremely noisy, with people playing cards, drinking and chatting, and children crying and refusing to sleep, all sorts of sounds filled Yan Huan’s ears.

”I’m sorry. I couldn’t get sleeper tickets this time. This is your first train journey with me, and you’re stuck in this environment...” Ji Chuan wanted a more comfortable ride for Yan Huan, but because of the short notice, all sleeper tickets were sold out.

”It’s okay, I made the decision late.” Yan Huan smiled softly, looking at the colorful array of people in the carriage, she leaned towards Ji Chuan’s ear and said, ”Actually, I find this feeling quite wonderful. So, this is what life feels like!”

”You like it?”

”Yes. This feeling is quite wonderful.” Yan Huan couldn’t pinpoint why, but she felt that this journey with Ji Chuan wouldn’t be in vain.

Because her body and mind were now filled with joy.

”That’s good.” Ji Chuan also smiled.

Around nine o’clock in the evening, they had been on the train for over five hours, and Yan Huan was a bit tired, she tilted her head and fell asleep on Ji Chuan’s shoulder.

She slept sweetly, with a smile on her lips.

She slept for more than two hours, and Ji Chuan maintained the same posture until his body became stiff, but he refused to move, not wanting to disturb Yan Huan’s sweet dreams, persisting all the while.

”Young man, you really cherish your wife,” remarked an old lady sitting across the aisle, who had been observing them for a while, ”I can tell. You truly love your wife! You didn’t move an inch for fear of waking her, right?”

Ji Chuan smiled, ”Yes.”

”Cherishing your wife! Truly cherishing! Too bad I didn’t meet someone like you when I was young; my husband doesn’t know how to cherish people. This girl is truly blessed! I can tell you’re a good man.” The old lady continued to praise Ji Chuan.

”Wives are meant to be cherished,” Ji Chuan said carefully, glancing at Yan Huan who was lying on his shoulder, ”If I don’t cherish her, who will?”

”Good! Young man, well said!” Other women around gave Ji Chuan a thumbs up.

The old lady’s voice woke Yan Huan, and every word Ji Chuan said reached her ears.

Her heart was like a small stone thrown into a pond, creating ripples filled with a touch of happiness and sweetness.

An Hao was right.

If you don’t get close to him, you wouldn’t know he’s such a warm and considerate man.
