Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Hearing the screams coming from the bedroom, Ji Chuan hurriedly ran out of the kitchen.

As he stepped into the bedroom, he saw Ning Chenyang looking bewildered with fright and Yan Huan covered in cold sweat.

”Godmother! What’s wrong?” Ning Chenyang asked, rubbing his sleepy eyes.

”It’s nothing. Go back to sleep.” Ji Chuan gestured for Ning Chenyang to continue sleeping.

”Oh!” Ning Chenyang nodded, collapsed back onto the bed, and fell asleep again.

”Did you have a nightmare?” Ji Chuan asked her.

”Yes.” Yan Huan wiped the cold sweat from her forehead and said in a low voice, ”Not just once! I used to have them occasionally, but recently they’ve become more frequent!”

Ji Chuan frowned: ”How come you never mentioned anything so important to me?”

”I...” Yan Huan lowered her head and said softly, ”I never felt that these dreams really bothered me before, but this time, they truly scared me, felt so real!”

Ji Chuan glanced at Ning Chenguang, who was sleeping soundly on the bed: ”Come out with me, let’s have a chat!”

”About what?” Yan Huan asked as she got out of bed.

”About your dream, the one you just had. What did you see in the dream? Tell me every detail.”

”Okay.”

The two went to the living room, and Ji Chuan gently closed the door behind them.

They sat facing each other on the sofa, Ji Chuan found some paper and a pen from An Hao’s home, ready to record Yan Huan’s dream.

Although he wasn’t knowledgeable in psychology,

he had discussed some psychological knowledge with Jason in the past few days.

Dreams, to some extent, reflect the anxiety hidden in people’s hearts.

To some extent, they are a reflection of real-life situations.

Some people’s dreams can even predict the future.

In Yan Huan’s case, Ji Chuan categorized her dreams as a manifestation of hidden anxiety.

Or a reflection of the damage real situations had caused in her heart.

If his guess was correct, perhaps her increasingly frequent dreams were the impact of events that occurred during the days when he went missing.

”I just dreamt of that person.” Yan Huan steadied her emotions and began to speak.

”Who?”

”That scar-faced man in the park.”

”Why would he appear in your dream?” Ji Chuan looked up at her, then asked, ”Tell me, what role does he play in your dream?”

”Dust...dust everywhere, can’t see the road or distinguish direction!” Yan Huan closed her eyes, furrowing her brows tightly as she recounted the dream scenario to Ji Chuan, ”I’ve had dreams like this before! I always felt so anxious, particularly anxious! It’s as if there’s someone in the dust, always staring at me with wide eyes.”

”Did you see that person clearly?”

”I saw him clearly!” Yan Huan opened her eyes suddenly, ”It’s the scar-faced man! He came out of the fog, standing right behind me.”

”Were you very scared?” Ji Chuan asked.

”Yes.” Yan Huan curled up her body, clasping her hands over her chest, showing a self-protective stance, ”Scared. Very helpless!”

”What are you afraid of?”

”Afraid of what?” She looked at Ji Chuan blankly, ”I don’t even know what I’m afraid of! It’s just a deep fear! Like I want to escape, but I can’t!”

Listening to Yan Huan’s dream, Ji Chuan’s eyes grew brighter: ”Tell me, were you taken away by strangers back then? What happened during the days you were taken? Speak out, and your condition will improve!”
