Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2305: Chapter 2298: Mission

”Come in!” The commander’s voice sounded.

Yan Huan pushed the door open, stood in front of the commander, saluted, and said, ”Sir, you called for me!”

The commander put down the military report he was holding and smiled, saying, ”Sit down! Yan Huan, I read the report you wrote after the interview, it was very good! The report is very realistic, the writing is smooth and the emotions are sincere! It really resonates with the warriors!”

”Really?” Yan Huan was very happy to receive the commander’s praise, ”I will work even harder in the future to write better articles.”

”Yes, yes.” The commander nodded vigorously, ”Not bad, really not bad! The division commander also praised you after reading the article, and he said that you should write more uplifting reports in the future! We need comprehensive, multi-faceted reports on our military warriors, to create a positive public opinion direction for them!”

”Don’t worry. I will definitely go deeper into the grassroots and find more material!”

”Good. There is a task that needs to be given to you now.”

”What task?”

”You know that Liulin County has always been impoverished, especially Hanshan Village in Xizhang Township. This village is not small, with about more than two thousand households, all relying on farming for food. Many young and able-bodied people have gone out to work and earn money, leaving behind mostly the old, weak, sick, and disabled. Many people fall ill but have no money for treatment, so they just get some random medicine from the village doctor. The provincial government takes this problem seriously, and many units are providing support.”

”So you want me to report on the actual situation there?” Yan Huan asked.

”Yes. Our military will send a medical team this time. Our regiment’s health company will go! You and Xiaomei will go together to find more material! Report this matter well,” the commander said.

”Yes! I guarantee the task will be completed!” Yan Huan stood upright and saluted.

”Good, I believe you can do it. But the conditions over there are tough!” The commander said with a smile, ”You who has never left Nancheng, can you handle it?”

”This...” Yan Huan hesitated a little; she nearly forgot that she has asthma.

Leaving Nancheng, she really didn’t know if she could make it...

”What? Thinking of backing out?” The commander looked at her hesitation.

”No. Rest assured, I guarantee the mission will be completed.” Yan Huan promised, patting her chest.

”That’s the spirit. But be mentally prepared; this trip is not short, it will take about a month.”

A month, that really is not a short time.

However, since she promised the commander, Yan Huan had to follow through.

”No problem! When does the team depart?”

”Next Monday!”

”Yes!”

Yan Huan came out of the commander’s office and returned to her desk. When Xiaomei saw she was back, she came over and asked, ”Sister Yan, did the commander say you have to go to the village for an interview?”

”Yes! You’re going too.” Yan Huan said as she tidied up the things on her desk.

”I know. But Sister Yan, can your health handle it?” Tan Xiaomei had seen Yan Huan have an attack before.

She never knew that the seemingly healthy Yan Huan would almost lose her life when she had an asthma attack. Later, she learned that Yan Huan’s illness was very peculiar; it only flared up sporadically after leaving Nancheng.

The army has annual check-ups, and Yan Huan’s medical results have always been normal. So, others were unaware, only Tan Xiaomei knew. She must keep Yan Huan’s secret.
