I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 563: Chapter 562: The Fragile Youth

Because it wasn’t convenient to talk over the phone, Du Kai Bo and Beisitian didn’t say much. He proactively requested to speak with Beisitian on the phone, which was another way of telling Mrs. Cheng that this doctor was extraordinary and could be trusted.

Mrs. Cheng indeed had a deep impression of Du Kai Bo’s proactive request to talk, she realized she had misjudged!

After hanging up the phone, Mrs. Cheng’s attitude became much more courteous, ”I apologize, Doctor Bei, your age is quite deceptive, and it’s my lack of experience. I didn’t expect such a young yet so capable doctor!”

Having been an official’s wife for so long, Mrs. Cheng had some insight. Instead of pretending to know nothing and then acting all polite, it was better to openly apologize, which would leave a better impression on the other party.

Beisitian smiled nonchalantly and asked, ”Can the medicine be taken now?”

”Sure, sure, follow me.” Mrs. Cheng said with a smile.

Nian Fanghua was relieved to see this. As expected of Doctor Bei, one phone call made this proud peacock-like lady become polite.

Upon returning to the young man’s room, Beisitian gently sat on a chair beside the bed and said to the young man, ”This little porcelain bottle contains water. Drink it, and you’ll recover.”

Mrs. Cheng hesitated, wanting to tell Beisitian that he couldn’t hear that. Yet, surprisingly, her son suddenly opened his eyes and said, ”You’re lying; there’s clearly medicine in there!”

Mrs. Cheng’s mouth dropped open, staring at her son. Did he wake up? Or had he never slept!

Beisitian smiled slightly, turned to Mrs. Cheng, and said, ”I’d like to have a word with your son, alone.”

After a moment of reflection, Mrs. Cheng understood that her son was pretending to sleep only because he didn’t want to talk to anyone. There wasn’t a hint of drowsiness when he woke.

Since Beisitian managed to make him open his eyes and speak, maybe she could also make him drink the medicine. Moreover, given the brief rapport, with them both outside, nothing should go wrong. With that thought, she called the two helpers and left the room.

After everyone left, Beisitian smiled and said, ”This is just water. If you don’t believe me, I’ll pour it out for you to see.”

The young man was upset at having spoken recklessly earlier. His mother, being shrewd, must have noticed. Now, hearing Beisitian’s words, he frowned and said, ”Don’t lie to me; I heard everything!”

”See for yourself.”

As she spoke, Beisitian poured the talismanic water from the little porcelain bottle into a glass and shook it in front of the young man, saying, ”Does this look like medicine?”

The young man stared at the glass, a trace of doubt in his eyes, then looked at Beisitian, ”That doesn’t prove it’s water either. The medicine I get for infusions also has no color.”

”The medicine for your infusions is injected, this one is for drinking. If you don’t believe me, taste it. If it has a taste, you can spit it out.” Beisitian said.

The young man didn’t reject water. While he might withstand not eating, he couldn’t go without drinking water. He took the glass from Beisitian, smelled it closely, detected no odor, then put his lips to the rim and took a tiny sip.

Smacking his lips, he found that it indeed had no taste, gave Beisitian a glance, and drank the entire glass of talismanic water. He was thirsty anyway, so he should have drunk some water by now.

Beisitian observed him with a smile, ”I did lie to you just now; that was definitely medicine!”

The young man was speechless, ”You’re lying; that was definitely water!”

Beisitian laughed out loud.

Seeing Beisitian laugh, the young man was even more frustrated, ”You didn’t lie to me, but you lied to my mother. You told her you’re a doctor, and if I drink your medicine, I’ll get well. But now you’ve given me water. My mother is so smart, she won’t pay you!”

Beisitian, seeing his earnestness in worrying about her payment, couldn’t help but chuckle softly and said, ”Why worry about whether I get paid? Besides, who said this has no benefit; what you drank indeed provides nourishment.”

The young man’s face flushed with slight annoyance, ”Who’s worrying about you!”

He didn’t even know why he had such a concern earlier. Clearly, this woman deceived his mother, he should be siding with his family more, yet here he was, leaning in the outsider’s favor.

However, Beisitian’s gentle words still rang in his ears. He thought he would hear some exclamations or whispers about how terrifying he was.

”Anyway, if it doesn’t work, I won’t let my mother pay you!” The young man turned his head to the other side.

Beisitian smiled, gently patted the young man’s head, ”I should go now; the first bottle of medicine is a gift for you.”

As she spoke, she stood up but was caught by a thin, bony hand.

The young man turned his head to look at her, ”You held my hand just now, so I’m taking it back!”

Seeing this, Beisitian’s eyes softened and she said, ”You’ve reclaimed it, we’re even now.” As she said, she slightly squeezed his hand, feeling the hard bones in her palm, ”Clutch it back when you have the chance.”

The young man turned his head around and gave Beisitian a smile, ”Alright.”

He hadn’t expected, he almost couldn’t do it again.

Seeing the joyful smile on the young man’s face, Beisitian felt a rush of emotion. This child, given just a little warmth and kindness, would cherish it deeply.

The talismanic water has been drunk. As long as there is no reaction of repelling the charm, it should quickly replenish the body’s nutrients. However, this isn’t a long-term solution. He must be able to eat food to supplement his nutritional needs.

Without saying much to Mrs. Cheng, Beisitian fed the young man the medicine and prepared to leave.

”Doctor Bei, how much is the medicine? I’ll settle it now, can’t let you work for nothing.” Mrs. Cheng was indeed a woman who knows how to handle things, yet her words still implied that she saw Beisitian as a doctor taking the opportunity to make money.

Beisitian gave a faint smile, ”I hit it off with this child, so the first bottle is a free gift for him. The second time, I’ll start charging, but this medicine is really expensive.”

”Thank you very much, Doctor Bei.” Mrs. Cheng didn’t mind. They had already spent so much, naturally not caring about the cost of one bottle of medicine. Moreover, how expensive could it be? An imported medicine bottle could cost hundreds; can it be more expensive than imported medicine?

Beisitian left, and Nian Fanghua sent her off before telling Ma Tianlai about the events.

Ma Tianlai shook his head and sighed, ”Just wait, Mrs. Cheng will regret one day for failing to recognize a true talent!”

Nian Fanghua grabbed Ma Tianlai, who was about to leave, and glared, ”I’ve been guessing with my impressions all along; you should at least tell me Doctor Bei’s real strengths!”

Ma Tianlai looked at her with a troubled expression.

”I’m your wife; we’re a team. If you take sides, I naturally support you. Our fortunes rise and fall together!”
