Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1827: Chapter 1730: Suffering the Consequences of One’s Own Actions

Ge Xinming’s face was ashen, especially when people from the magazine gave him strange looks. He felt like the chair under him was on fire, and he couldn’t sit still.

He turned off the computer, ready to leave work dejectedly. However, just as he stood up, the phone on his desk rang. On the other end, Wei Zhongtian, the president of ”Nanhua Daily,” spoke with a cold and emotionless voice:

”Ge Xinming, come to my office immediately.”

Ge Xinming felt a jolt inside, realizing things weren’t going well.

He comforted himself, thinking it wouldn’t be a big deal, just an article. President Wei was busy with many affairs and wouldn’t have the time or interest to bother with such trivial matters. He must be overthinking it.

But soon, his wishful thinking was shattered. As soon as he entered the president’s office, he heard a loud bang. Wei Zhongtian directly threw a teacup from his side towards him, which landed with a huge noise on the floor. The exquisite bone china cup shattered into several pieces, one of which even hit Ge Xinming’s face, cutting his skin. Blood began to seep out.

Ge Xinming was in pain but dared not dodge and dared not show any displeasure, because right in front of him, behind the office desk, Wei Zhongtian was staring at him with a look that seemed ready to devour him.

”Look at the mess you’ve caused! Such a serious matter, why didn’t you report it to me?”

Ge Xinming lowered his head, hiding the vindictive hatred in his eyes: ”President, when I interviewed Huo Sining at the time, she indeed replied to me like this. Moreover, the Red Cross Association also responded to me in the same manner. Huo Sining didn’t donate to the Red Cross Association, so I thought she must have been deceiving. How could I know she would stay in the earthquake-stricken area for so many days? Besides, my report directly pointed out Huo Sining’s fraudulent donation, which doesn’t conflict with whether she stayed in the earthquake-stricken area, right?”

Upon hearing this tone, Wei Zhongtian knew he was reluctant to admit his mistake and immediately became furious:

”So you want us at ’Nanhua Daily’ to take the blame for you? Do you think I’m unaware of how many petty schemes you’ve pulled in between? Everyone in this circle knows what kind of person you are. Do you think you can fool anyone?”

”After the news came out on the Yangcheng Weekly, People’s Daily reprinted it. Why didn’t you admit your oversight and mistake? Why did you insist on confronting Yangcheng Weekly? For a big news story, you were willing to go all out, dragging our daily paper in for burial with you. You’re really good at plotting!”

”Look, now they’ve already sent the lawyer’s letter to our newspaper, making it clear they want to sue us. You figure it out!”

Saying this, Wei Zhongtian tossed a file folder onto the floor in front of Ge Xinming. Seeing the conspicuous red lettering ”Lawyer’s Letter” on it, Ge Xinming felt dizzy.

He thought the tweet Huo Sining posted was just to scare off the online trolls. He didn’t expect this woman really intended to sue him!

Ge Xinming suddenly lifted his head, stiffened his neck, and said, ”President, I have no ulterior motives. It’s all for the sales and visibility of our daily. If it wasn’t for Yangcheng Weekly stirring things up, our daily would have soared in popularity with just this incident. I’m sure you saw this morning’s newspaper sales. If I wasn’t thinking of the magazine, why would I have made such a move?”

Wei Zhongtian sneered. He didn’t believe a word of Ge Xinming’s claim to have no ulterior motives. The magazine’s vice president position was vacant, and several department heads were eager to climb up to it. Therefore, Ge Xinming’s intentions were obvious.

If this matter had been handled well, Wei Zhongtian wouldn’t mind letting Ge Xinming sit in the vice president’s seat, but now it was impossible.

Due to Ge Xinming’s article, ”Nanhua Daily” had become the target of much criticism, and since Ge Xinming’s focus was Huo Sining, it meant offending the Gu Family and the Zhou Family behind her. If ”Nanhua Daily” doesn’t show some attitude, it might incur the wrath of those families.

Wei Zhongtian waved his hand at Ge Xinming, saying, ”Alright, no need to argue. I don’t have the energy to talk nonsense with you. Your intentions, I don’t care to know anymore. Tomorrow, you can go to Nepal with Xiao Li and Xiao He for inspection. Let’s pause the director position first, and we’ll discuss it after this incident passes.”

”President!”

Upon hearing this, Ge Xinming was shocked and suddenly raised his head, staring into Wei Zhongtian’s eyes as if they would burst into flames.

Going to Nepal was a demotion. At his age, having to go to that kind of place—how would other colleagues at the magazine view him? His competitors would surely mock him behind his back.

Over the years at the magazine, Ge Xinming had made quite a few enemies. Wei Zhongtian’s decision equated to a demotion for him. Just imagining the looks from his colleagues made him feel humiliated, and he was angry at Wei Zhongtian’s decisive resolution.

But Wei Zhongtian didn’t want to deal with him anymore: ”Go on, don’t blame me. You can only blame yourself for being too rash, annoying the people from the Gu Family. If you don’t assume responsibility, the brunt of the Gu Family’s wrath will fall on our magazine. At that point, the magazine will have to shut down, and you surely don’t want so many people losing their jobs because of you, right?”

Ge Xinming never expected he would end up like this. Unwilling to succumb to Wei Zhongtian’s arrangements and follow the other reporters to such an inhospitable place like Nepal, in a fit of anger, he submitted his resignation directly to Wei Zhongtian.

Wei Zhongtian was eager to see Ge Xinming leave. This way, he could give both Huo Sining and the Gu Family an explanation. Then, they could focus on dealing with Ge Xinming, keeping the magazine safe.

Therefore, Wei Zhongtian, upon seeing Ge Xinming’s resignation letter, didn’t attempt to retain him at all, immediately approving Ge Xinming’s request to resign.

Ge Xinming considered himself well-qualified and experienced, believing that such talent would easily find opportunities even after leaving ”Nanhua Daily.”

But he was far too naive. After leaving the magazine, Wei Zhongtian promptly contacted Gu Xu’s side.
