Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1811: Chapter 1714: With Ulterior Motives

On the afternoon of the next day, international rescue teams arrived at Qingya Mei Mountain, with crews from Dongyang, Country E, and Goryeo all reaching the scene first.

Huo Sining hadn’t expected the international rescue teams to arrive so quickly. She was just about to express her admiration when she heard Ouyang Jun say dismissively:

”Don’t be too happy too soon. I have no doubts about the people from Old Maozi, but Dongyang and Goryeo showing up now might not be that simple.”

Initially, Huo Sining was puzzled, not understanding why Ouyang Jun would say such things. After all, in Huo Sining’s view, these international rescue teams traveled thousands of miles to offer assistance, purely out of humanitarian reasons. In this situation, one can’t expect too much.

However, when Huo Sining followed Gu Xu, Ouyang Jun, and the others to the site where the international rescue teams were stationed, she finally understood what Ouyang Jun meant.

The Country E rescue team sent two reinforced companies, each member fully equipped and in high spirits; clearly, they were well-prepared before coming over.

In contrast, the numbers from Dongyang and Goryeo were pitifully small.

Goryeo sent a platoon and brought search and rescue dogs. However, upon arrival, they insisted on a nine-to-five work schedule, demanded three meals a day with kimchi, and refused to eat steamed buns.

The situation with Dongyang was even more laughable. They had 42 rescue personnel, yet they were accompanied by 34 reporters, with cameras and equipment in tow. It’s unclear if they came to rescue people or conduct news reporting.

Seeing this spectacle, Huo Sining felt disgusted. The Dongyang and Goryeo rescue teams seemed to be there just for show, seeking international recognition but reluctant to do any substantial work. Sending such a small number of people was purely for show!

”It would have been better if they hadn’t come. Their presence is irritating. While we are here risking our lives to save people, they come to put on a show. It’s absolutely disgusting!”

Upon witnessing the situation, Huo Sining was utterly infuriated.

Meanwhile, Ouyang Jun and Qin Tian seemed to be unsurprised, clearly used to it. Isn’t this just typical of Dongyang and Goryeo? A small island and a peninsula—can they really have the large-hearted compassion of a great nation? If these two genuinely helped with all their might, people would truly be shocked.

The situation already seemed ridiculous, but Huo Sining had no idea that things would get even stranger.

On that day, after the international rescue teams entered the disaster area, the Qing City Military Region assigned them to the Qingcheng Mountain area. However, despite so many people working all day, they found only the bodies of a mother and daughter.

To make matters worse, the Goryeo rescue team lost two search dogs. In their quest to find them, they even demanded that Huaxia Country send specific personnel to help.

Throughout the day, the Dongyang and Goryeo rescue teams released international press releases, exaggerating how hard they were involved in rescue efforts, staging countless scenes to showcase their supposed all-out life-risking rescue work;

Meanwhile, not far from them in Qingcheng Mountain, Huaxia soldiers and the Country E rescue team were pulling one survivor after another from the debris.

In the 72-hour golden window post-earthquake, everyone was frantic to make every second count, forgoing food, drink, and sleep. Even if there was resentment towards the international rescue teams, no one had the time to care at this moment.

Huo Sining thought this was the end of it, but she was completely wrong.

By the third day, Liuli’s rescue team also arrived. Unexpectedly, the rescue teams from Dongyang, Goryeo, and Liuli requested the Qing City Military Region to redeploy the international teams to the Hirakawa and Qingwu Districts.

This request was outright rejected by the Qing City Military Region.

Initially, Huo Sining didn’t know what these rescue teams were up to or why they suddenly made such a request. But in the afternoon, Gu Xu received a secret mission from above—the Falcon Team was to stop rescuing survivors and proceed to the Hirakawa and Qingwu Districts.

After the task was issued, Gu Xu didn’t have time to explain and immediately led the team away. Huo Sining and Ouyang Jun were left looking at each other, not understanding the situation.

Soon enough, their confusion was clarified. Around ten at night, the Dongyang rescue team, which had insisted on a nine-to-five schedule, and the Goryeo team searching for their lost dogs, along with the Liuli team that had just arrived that day, collectively ”got lost” in the Hirakawa and Qingwu Districts. Coincidentally, they were intercepted by the Falcon Troop led by Gu Xu and promptly sent back to Meishan.

”What does this mean? Weren’t the international rescue teams assigned to the Qingcheng Mountain area? Hirakawa and the Qingwu Districts are in the south, while Qingcheng Mountain is in the north, separated by at least a hundred kilometers, completely unrelated. How could they possibly get lost there?”

When Huo Sining heard this news, she was utterly bewildered, utterly confounded by the situation.

Ouyang Jun quickly caught on, his eyes flashing with coldness, a deep sarcasm on his face, as he said:

”I was wondering why things seemed so odd. These people don’t usually act this way. Now that something has happened, they came so quickly, turns out this was the reason!”

Huo Sining was completely in the dark, gazing blankly at Ouyang Jun.

Qin Tian also smirked repeatedly: ”No wonder they brought more than thirty reporters with them. They were prepared all along, just waiting for this moment! Infiltrating so many people with ulterior motives under these circumstances! Their audacity is just deplorable!”

”I have no idea what you’re talking about. Can you please explain it clearly?” Huo Sining’s curiosity was piqued, prompting her to ask eagerly.

Ouyang Jun glanced at Huo Sining and explained: ”To put it simply, the Hirakawa and Qingwu areas house our only Fission-Fusion Weapons Research Center, a highly classified unit, with numerous materials research institutes based there. These people just ’coincidentally’ got lost there. Coincidence, isn’t it?”

As he spoke, Ouyang Jun’s disdain and anger were palpable on his face.

Huo Sining’s expression also changed drastically, shocked beyond belief.

A Fission-Fusion Weapons Research Center, isn’t that nuclear...

During the rescue efforts the previous day, the international rescue teams refused assistance from the Chinese side, citing their own national rescue equipment and instrumentation as reasons to clear the field, conducting rescue efforts in private. After extracting the bodies, they collectively bowed in mourning, with over thirty reporters taking turns capturing photos.

Huo Sining thought they were merely there to put on a show, but she didn’t realize they harbored malice.
