Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1807: Chapter 1710: Is It You

With Huo Sining leading the way, the rescue team was almost always successful, never coming out empty-handed after clearing the rubble.

Huo Sining herself never imagined that her Heavenly Eye would one day be used for saving lives. In front of every collapsed building, she just needed to squat and look for a few seconds to scan the entire situation beneath the ruins. Then, she would know clearly and without fail whether anyone inside was still alive, even whether they were male or female, old or young, where they were injured, and how serious the injuries were.

Even Meng Jinlong truly thought that Huo Sining was using the Feng Shui geomancy method to calculate and predict. After a few tests and seeing the accuracy, both Meng Jinlong and his soldiers thoroughly admired her, almost worshipping her.

Meng Jinlong had heard that the country specially recruits some talented people into the army, granting them high-ranking positions for emergencies, so he naturally considered Huo Sining as one of them.

With such incredible prognostic abilities, it’s understandable that this young girl could be granted the rank of a major general.

Thinking he had understood the reality of the situation, Meng Jinlong never dared to be inattentive or careless when Huo Sining gave orders; instead, he worked with great enthusiasm.

As for the life detection instrument they’d brought back, it was directly thrown into the armored vehicle because, with Huo Sining, that piece of equipment seemed inadequate.

By the time the medical team arrived with supplies, Huo Sining and her group had already rescued more than ten injured people. With limited medical supplies, she could only provide the simplest treatment. Seeing the ambulances coming over, her eyes brightened, and she rushed over eagerly, shouting:

”You arrived just in time. There are several patients with infected wounds over there who need antibiotics immediately, and a child is in the armored vehicle. Two patients have fractures, one with two broken ribs. Please treat these patients first, and more will be brought out shortly...”

Huo Sining spoke methodically about the situation but suddenly felt something was amiss halfway through. She turned abruptly, and when she saw who was standing by the police car, she couldn’t help but tremble, instinctively closing her eyes, thinking she was hallucinating from exhaustion.

After a few seconds, she dared to open her eyes.

However, what Huo Sining didn’t expect was that upon opening her eyes, that person was still standing nearby, not disappearing, quietly leaning against the car door.

Though barely ten meters apart, Huo Sining felt a world away. Her breath hitched, and she pinched her arm instinctively, the sharp pain bringing her back to reality as she hesitantly asked:

”Gu Xu, is that you?”

Gu Xu, wearing deep green camouflage and a hat, stared deeply at the woman before him. Her face was pale, and her eyes were ringed with exhaustion, evident of the fatigue over the less than twenty hours since the earthquake occurred.

Gu Xu kept his gaze fixed on the petite woman, fearing she’d vanish if he blinked. He didn’t dare move, just watched her slender figure through the crowd, until she dashed towards him like a swallow on the wind. Mechanically, he opened his arms and clasped her tightly, breathing in the familiar fragrance, feeling her warmth and soft body—only then did he finally feel his empty soul was whole.

The surrounding people glanced over with eyes of ambiguity, envy, or blessing, but those looks were as if nonexistent. The two, in the desolate disaster zone, embraced openly in front of everyone, first fixing their gaze on each other’s eyes, then synchronously lifting and bending down, passionately kissing.

Their intertwined emotions burst forth, feeling like it was the only way to express the panic, fear, and relief they experienced in these short hours.

Gu Xu’s arms held the fragile body tightly, wishing he could embed her bones and flesh into his soul, so wherever he went, he could take her with him and never endure such anguish and torment again.

Huo Sining completely forgot her surroundings, rescuing people repeatedly in hopes of distracting her from worry and dread. But now, in this man’s arms, she dared to recall everything that happened that day, dared to ponder what would have occurred if she hadn’t escaped, if she’d been asleep in the hotel room—what her fate would be now.

As they kissed, their bodies trembled uncontrollably. After a long while, Huo Sining felt something cool on her face. When she touched her cheek, it was tears.

Surprised, she realized these tears weren’t hers!

”I’m okay!” Huo Sining was shaken to her core, seeing Gu Xu had cried.

She had never seen Gu Xu like this before, his eyes bloodshot and swollen red, tears falling from those eyes.

Gu Xu didn’t speak, just kept watching her, fearing she would disappear again. His gaze was filled with nervousness and apprehension.

No one knows, from watching the news until seeing her alive and lively, the over ten hours passing was like traversing hell, his emotions spiraling.

On the plane, his anger and madness even frightened himself.

He had long decided to be entangled with this woman for life, regardless of who she was or how many secrets she held; he couldn’t permit nor allow her to flee from his side!

Huo Sining had never seen Gu Xu lose composure like this and couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness in her nose, instinctively stretching her arms out again to hug the man tightly.

”I’m really okay, don’t worry. I’m just... I was scared. When the earthquake first occurred, I ran outside, and the surrounding buildings shook. When I looked back, the hotel where I was staying collapsed. I was terrified, if I had been a moment later, if I hadn’t decisively used my wire stunt equipment to escape from upstairs, would I have...”

Huo Sining’s voice trembled, trailing off.

Gu Xu’s body stiffened, his hands holding her even tighter, so strong Huo Sining felt pain in her back but couldn’t bear to push him away.

Facing such a disaster, perhaps pain actually allows one to feel sharply aware at least that they’re alive.
