Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1804: Chapter 1707: The Chief

Huo Sining continued to chat casually with the villagers until the rescue soldiers rowed over with lifeboats, transferring the villagers and rescue teams from the hilltop to the upper reaches of the reservoir. Only then did Huo Sining finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Upon reaching the upstream of the reservoir, the rescue team immediately took charge of a large number of villagers who were injured and in urgent need of medical help, ignoring any rest and rushing to work.

Meanwhile, another group of rescue soldiers prepared to head upstream. Although the upstream area didn’t suffer from flooding, the earthquake caused many villagers’ houses to collapse, trapping quite a few villagers under the rubble. This group of soldiers was getting ready to go upstream to rescue them.

Huo Sining looked at the villagers who had been transferred from downstream. There weren’t any particularly severe cases among them that the rescue personnel couldn’t handle, and she couldn’t really contribute here. So, she thought about it and decided to follow the soldiers.

”Wait a minute!”

Seeing the soldiers boarding the armored vehicle and preparing to leave, Huo Sining rushed over in a few quick steps.

The person in charge was Meng Jinlong, the deputy of the Qing City Military Region. As Huo Sining stopped him, his expression immediately turned sour.

He had received orders from above and was rushing to rescue people. Not a minute could be wasted, so naturally, he wasn’t very friendly.

”What’s going on?”

Huo Sining glanced at Meng Jinlong and said, ”Sir, can I go upstream with you? I’ve studied Kanyu and Xuan Kong Feng Shui. Maybe I could help in the search for survivors!”

Meng Jinlong, being from the People’s Liberation Army, was a firm believer in materialism and always sneered at such superstitious things. Hearing Huo Sining talk about Feng Shui and Kanyu made him furious:

”This is utter nonsense. Do you think our rescue team would use scientific instruments and let you charlatans mess around? Young lady, it’s better to avoid these dubious things. At your age, you should go back to studying!”

After finishing his words, Meng Jinlong didn’t even glance at Huo Sining and was about to get in the car and leave.

Huo Sining grew anxious. She intended to cooperate with the rescue team, using her Heavenly Eye Skill to find survivors and having the rescue team save them, which would definitely be more efficient. But she hadn’t expected this officer to disbelieve her words at all and even scold her.

Huo Sining knew that her words were abrupt and absurd. Anyone in such an urgent situation would only see her as a troublemaker, and naturally wouldn’t take her seriously.

Seeing Meng Jinlong signaling the driver to start the car, Huo Sining realized that it couldn’t be explained with just a few words. So she decided to play hardball.

Resolutely, she took out the small green booklet from her pocket and handed it over.

If reasoning didn’t work, she’d try this approach. Though Huo Sining generally disliked such tactics, given the urgency, she couldn’t afford to consider much.

”Take me with you!”

Huo Sining’s words were unquestionably firm and carried a kind of unyielding force.

Just as his anger was about to erupt, Meng Jinlong saw the booklet in Huo Sining’s hand and immediately froze, instinctively reaching out to take it.

Upon opening it, Meng Jinlong’s posture stiffened, startled, and hastily raised his head to look at Huo Sining standing by the car window.

Meng Jinlong wasn’t like Li Gang and others. Holding the officer’s certificate in his hand, he could already discern its authenticity!

His hand trembled, almost dropping the small credential.

Regretting the impolite words he said earlier to Huo Sining, Meng Jinlong wished he could cut off his tongue.

Oh my gosh, isn’t this a trap?

Meng Jinlong was almost in tears, knowing that rank matters a lot, and this woman in front of him outranked him by more than just one level. Would he dare disobey the chief’s orders?

Stumbling, Meng Jinlong pushed open the car door, ran out, and gave Huo Sining a military salute, his voice trembling: ”Chief, I... I didn’t know you...”

Huo Sining understood what Meng Jinlong wanted to say, waved her hand indifferently, and replied, ”Enough nonsense, I’m not that petty. Just take me along!”

Even if he had the courage of ten people, Meng Jinlong wouldn’t dare refuse. He quickly nodded: ”Okay, you sit here. I’ll squeeze in the back with them. If you have any orders, let me know anytime!”

Saying this, Meng Jinlong let out the co-pilot’s seat, climbed into the back of the compartment, and squeezed in directly.

The other soldiers were somewhat puzzled, not knowing why the captain wouldn’t sit in the perfectly good co-pilot seat but instead squeeze into the cramped area with them.

Meng Jinlong didn’t explain, still a bit dazed about how to cope with this sudden young person. He was entirely at a loss for how to respond.

Regardless, the armored vehicle proceeded forward rapidly towards the upstream, despite several obstacles on the way. Soon, they reached the upstream village.

Upon entering the village, many collapsed houses could indeed be seen. As soon as Meng Jinlong got off the vehicle, he signaled his soldiers to take out the life detection devices.

The life detector is a high-tech rescue device used to detect life signals behind obstacles, utilizing infrared, audio, and other detection principles. It’s the most commonly used device by the country during fires, mining accidents, earthquakes, and other disasters.

However, at that time, the life detectors had only been recently developed, with many technologies still needing improvement, unlike the advanced technology Huo Sining knew before. At this moment, they were in a trial status, often experiencing detection failures or incorrect results.

At least, after arriving at the destination, the soldiers fiddled with the detector for five to six minutes, yet couldn’t figure it out.

Seeing this situation, Huo Sining sighed lightly, stopped babbling with Meng Jinlong, and directly walked over to a pile of ruined houses.

Crouching down, she reached out her hand and soon activated the Heavenly Eye, revealing everything under the rubble clearly.

Within just four to five seconds, Huo Sining had already understood the situation in this area. She stood up directly, walked over to Meng Jinlong, and said to him, ”There’s no one under here; move over there!”

Meng Jinlong was taken aback, instinctively looking over at the young soldier behind him who was in charge of handling the detector.
